DS is completely useless now
The main reason for that is because even if you do not interact with an objective for the timer to reset, the killer can immediately chase you off hook and then just slug you and set their 1 minute timer until it goes off. Object needed to be changed but it’s completely gutted along with DS. I’m not trying to prove a point or anything just saying it’s basically useless kind of like how undying got gutted too. If long time survivor mains are not happy about the changes they’ll either:
A.) Run Unbreakable/DS every match which means a high spike in Unbreakable
B.) Leave the game
Hopefully the Devs will fix something about being slugged immediately after the hook with DS up not needing Unbreakable for it, because it’s in the killer’s favor if they decide to be an A**hole and just slug you after hook immediately or not. You shouldn’t be forced to let Unbreakable or maybe even tenacity to take up a slot in your perks in situations like this. Not everyone would like to run those perks in conjunction with DS. We’ll see what happens in the future.
EDIT: I’m all for the changes as DS is now balanced but I’m making a scenario that can MAYBE, POSSIBLY make DS useless no matter the outcome. I appreciate the kind comments and thoughts.

That was always an option with DS. If the killer slugs you and stands there for 60 seconds while your team is doing gens, that killer will lose. If they slug you and go off on a chase, your teammates can pick you up. Nothing changed there from how it always worked.

The fact that a killer will slug you because of DS is more beneficial than getting hooked. The perk will not be useless, just more fair for killers since it is a bit dumb how it works now.

I heard the same thing 2 years ago.
13 -
The killer could slug you before, thats not new. Why do you think DS/unbrakable was ran by every second survivor?
What is DS for now?
Oh no i have been hooked.
scenario a:
Oh no my Teammate unhooks me without BT right next to the killer and he downs me instantly, well nice, I have DS.
scenario b:
Oh no the killer wants me dead and Always goes for me, well nice I can now punish him with a stun.
What got removed?
scenario c:
Hey killer, you cant hook me again now, i can sit on this gen for 60 seconds and you cant pick me up because I will stun you and you cant slug me either because I have unbreakable, haha! Oh and so you know, its a 50/50 for every other survivor to have the 60 seconds immunity too, so just eat 4 5 second stuns at the start of the game! And if someone does not have DS you need to let him go, it would be unfair if you would hook them in this case!
If you ask me its really nice that scenario c gets removed.
What kind of people would not want this scenario to be gone? i wonder...

From the DS screenshot changes, they listed all the objectives/interactions that will automatically reset your DS. So let’s say the killer decides to stay around the area and goes for YOU and only YOU after you’ve been unhooked, There’s no resources for you to use and you get back down, the killer then decides to slug you for 60+ seconds, you are not getting ANY use out of your DS because the killer decided to leave you there and you can’t do anything about it. Yes your comment is true and makes sense but only to an extent. New DS will be useless in situations like that.

Old DS is equally useless in situations like that.

You'll have to wager your chances if you want to work on objectives with new DS. You can also create new mindgames on killers to fake doing an action so that killer think you don't have DS anymore while you still have it. I'd dare to say that good players might use this nerf as a buff in some scenarios.
Imagine this, you get unhooked near a gen that 70% done and your teammates mindlessly runs away and you go to the gen and hide behind it, not doing it. If the killer comes around he'll think you worked on the gen and that you no longer have DS while in reality you were faking doing the gen so he donws you, picks you up and get's "deceivesivly" striked.
People are overestimating the nerf it got. It can't be weaponised in aggressive way anymore but you can still weaponise it in deceptive way.

This issue with Decisive Strike isn't new, though.
This is like someone owning a car with flat tyres, using it happily, then getting a new engine installed into it and complaining "well, now the car has been ruined by this new engine, because it has flat tyres".
Look, if you want a compensation buff for Decisive, that's fine, but DS being countered by slugging is hardly new.

The changes are nice, they’re balanced, but you’re not getting any use out of DS if the killer decides to immediately go after you and manages to down you because he’ll just wait until your timer goes away. let’s see, interact with something goes away, downed by killer after unhook, slugged for 60 seconds with no use out of DS. The best perks to counter this would be Tenacity or Unbreakable but NOT EVERYONE wants to use those perks in conjunction with Decisive Strike.

No, DS + Unbreakable is much more rare than you think.
2 -
in that case he will waste 60 seconds if he just waits it out. Usually you get saved with BT anyways, so it would need 2 hits + waiting time. Its just not worth it. In this case It would be better to just eat the DS. But most times you will get away and even if you get slugged the killer will go search someone else and youll get picked up by a teammate.
But youre right, you dont have a perk anymore that just lets you do gens for free.
But it is nowhere near useless.
3 -
Correct and it was an excellent change but I agree with the OP that the perk will die. The thing is if a killer wants to tunnel you and kill you then your dead.
In swf it's used more offensively so it will be completely replaced now with BT. In solo q it'll probably not be run because survivors have other more important perks they need to run.
I wish they did something to make it better against tunnellers but overall it was a positive change to the perk.
1 -
But that isn't a change. You keep saying that with the new version the killer can just slug you and pick you up after the timer runs out, but that's how it is now...

br
1 -
DS is now ACTUALLY an anti-tunneling perk Since if you're being tunneled you won't touch a gen or do any action now
1 -
You’re right and I understand, basically what I’m trying to say is you won’t be able to get much use out of the new DS because of the Main changes they’re making which is interacting with an objective, plus adding a scenario like the one I explained on top of that.

Hopefully they do something to make it better in that regard. One of thing I'd like them to do is to change one of the other meta perks into an obsession perk. This is so the fear of DS still looms even if it's not being used.
My idea for this was unbreakable. Works the same as normal except if you heal yourself off the ground you show the killer your aura for 3 seconds and become the obsession.
1 -
I think with these changes, it'd make sense to pause the timer while in chase. I think that'd be fair, since now if you do anything to progress the game, it deactivates.
1 -
Yeah I agree. You kind of worded it better than me lol. That would make it balanced while keeping the timer of deactivating when doing an objective. Because If you would like to get better value out of it for yourself you could run unbreakable or tenacity but not everyone would want to run those perks in conjunction with DS to get more value out of it.

People were already running DS+UB.
0 -
But not everyone, a majority yes, but there’s players who don’t feel like they need to equip DS with Unbreakable.
0 -
I did my research, do your own. Roughly 3 games out of 10 have someone using ds + unbreakable together.
0 -
you are jgetting driven ny emotions to make this argument and not logic. the problems you listed are also seen by the actual ds, please elaborate a logical reason why ds is useless now, it still works as anti tunnel, Locker DS still exists, Unbrekable + DS still exists. the only difference now is that you cant rub the killers face you have ds by doing a gen 1 mt away from him and still getting out unpunished, thats it.
0 -
Nah it still serves its purpose you just can't abuse it now
0 -
just like mori, and keys SOON :D :D :D
0 -
So it's useless because it's an actual anti-tunnel perk now, rather than an invincibility shield?
4 -
You can't complain about the DS nerf without making it seem you are complaining about the nerf to the invincibility it gave you, because the way it works is the same as before except you can't do thing that you wouldn't do if the killer was chasing you. Its only useless to those who would play around it.
1 -
It literally encourages more tunneling.
1 -
bup
0 -
It encourages tunneling by directly countering it?
6 -
So a DS perk that's meant to counter tunneling causes more tunneling?
Wouldn't that technically make it stronger because now the killer is expected to tunnel, and therefore, gain a disadvantage from it?
1 -
A perk meant to counter tunneling is going to encourage it more. I... don't think that's how that works.
1 -
How?
1 -
EXACTLY, WTH DEVS AND MODS WERE THINKING with the nerf?
DS will be deactivated when other survivors are doing OBJECTIVES? REALLY MODS AND DEVS? REALLY? How can you think this will be balanced?
0 -
This is such a sh*tpost. DS was being used as a way to troll or to be toxic. Not anymore, it serves no other purpose other than anti-tunneling.
0 -
Honestly, the true way to balance DS is to keep the deactivation parameters like the devs have introduced, but also add that if the survivor is placed into the Dying State during the 60 seconds the DS timer is paused until they are healed back to Injured by a teammate. That way the killer cannot slug an unhooked survivor with no intention to pick them up to guarentee they're no threat to objectives. Considering DS is an anti-momentum perk, this feels like a fair addition to the perk - the momentum a killer can get from the mere threat of potentially picking someone unhooked up will encourage survivors to save their DS by not performing deactivating actions, while also making survivors feel they can actually regain momentum and punish the killer while extending their survival if their DS is actually triggered without worrying about being slugged until the perk deactivates overtime. (BECAUSE DOWNING AN UNHOOKED SURVIVOR REGARDLESS OF PICKING THEM UP IS STILL A FORM OF TUNNELING IF THE KILLER FOCUSES THEM ON PURPOSE)
0 -
You don't lose DS if another survivor is doing objective, you lose DS if YOU are doing objective, having DS being deactivated directly because of how well other survivors do was something the dev where against, which is why they never went the "killer hooks another survivor" angle.
