A response to those against adding LGBTQIA+

Oh no it's blatantly the survivor they're hyping..I just want a character done right..not one who's only character trait is who they wanna sleep with..its shallow
1 -
Uhhh - the survivor they used a literal K-POP picture of to represent. If anything, this is going to be a K-Pop chapter.

I don't really care if the character I play with has sex with a dude or girl. For some reason, they classify it as a trait that's more important than anything else.
It's funny, because once they were so keen on keeping the sexualities out of the game. But then pride month comes around, and now they care. It's just company stuff. At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter.

We will see

We're all adults here, so let's talk like adults. You don't assume a character is anything but straight unless explicitly stated otherwise. In fact, nobody does, because the vast majority of characters in fiction are straight (and disproportionately so).
There were no complaints about the Legion's tome, which could just as easily be called "The romance of Frank and Julie and also some other Legion members are here", and that tome was just constantly shoving their heterosexuality down our throats. The only difference is that, now, we might be getting an explicitly LGBT character.
There is no argument that can be used against this that doesn't also apply to non-LGBT characters or is rendered moot by the fact that the devs have already done it for non-LGBT characters. Seriously, try to come up with one.

Who's "they"? The devs were very low-key about it, it's been the community hyping itself up.

Nope. They were just reminded that they had already added heterosexual relationships. Pride month was just an appropriate time for them to say "Y'know, we realize we dun goofed", the same way you wouldn't wear a Halloween mask and go trick-or-treating during Valentine's Day.

"the same way you wouldn't wear a Halloween mask and go trick-or-treating during Valentine's Day."
Unless it's my bloody valentine, then yes

It's a business thing. Same with the BLM support things. Because it's popular. Showing support for things is a company route to get more people interested.
1 -
So, in your mind, there's no other reason why some people might want to support BLM or LGBT or any other minority group except to profit from them?
0 -
Uhm wow ok air me then, rude :(
3 -
To clear up some confusion: I've merged some threads, as in essence they were the same, but they're all still here!
2 -
That is so gay.
1 -
It's crazy to me that there are genuine homophobes in the community, since a great majority of the people I know that play DBD (including myself) are LGBT+. I always saw this community as a largely-LGBT one and the amount of homophobes wiggling their way out this past week is nuts, but, I guess it's not that surprising in a gaming community.

is someone else shocked that in 2021 so many people are getting upset and making such a big deal of a "possible" Lgbt character? cuz when i read some on the stuff here i feel like we made no progress in the last ten years..... Gay people exist, get over it.
2 -
People need to come to realization that gay people are just as important as straight people. We’re all people no matter what gender, race, or sexuality. If anyone judges someone for one of those traits rather than their actual personality, they’re part of the problem this world has.
26 -
Period.
8 -
In the end it's just a skin with a backstory that changes nothing. All it does is make the people that wanted a LGBT character happy.
14 -
I just wish people would stfu about it. Add a character, whatever, doesn’t affect me. Can we get on with playing the game now
15 -
and somehow, a lot of people seem to be not on board with that.
6 -
I'll be honest, 90% of the posts I've seen aren't people commenting in some homophobic way or all "there shouldn't be a gay character" -- they're almost ALL seeming to come from people who identify as LGBT and are pre-complaining about the character not being done right or meeting some imaginary standard or something. Occasionally they're stirring up some sort of posts that are anti-gay only in the sense that they're defining a LGBT character as being a political statement and not a type of person, but by majority? Not really reading as much from them as from the demographic this possible character is supposed to represent.
10 -
Some people just want to yell at something pointless because they're bored. Or they're actually against people wanting to with a different gender or act a certain way other than the norm.
0 -
i didn´t said that both sides are a little bit stressing right now. but i saw a lot of "it doesn´t belongs in this game" or "what´s the point" as soon someone brings up something regarding Lgbt representation.
2 -
It's really shown how much the representation is needed.
Also shown how people don't realize LGBT is in ridiculous amounts of horror movies/books already. Simple Google search of "lgbt in horror" will blow their minds. 😂
6 -
Saying that just invalidates the purpose of representation....
0 -
This is so sad.
Can we get a thousand likes for the new character?
4 -
I see a lot of people saying how dare anyone have a problem with it, but I haven't yet seen someone actually say they were against it lol.
11 -
No one is against it that I've seen it's literally everyone saying they want BHVR to do it in a tasteful way instead of forcing it because some of the community is constantly whining and demanding that we have a gay character. Sometimes BHVR caves to peer pressure sometimes they don't. If the community would honestly just chill tf out about wanting representation we'd all be good.
And yet again before someone says I'm homophobic because a lot of people are just claiming there's homophobia and I've yet to see any - I'm a gay man.
For example - We literally get sudden random waves of threads like OP's out of the blue - To me it comes off as disrespectful. Support is cool and all but at a certain point some of these threads are clearly trying to be provocative towards people who just want to be neutral, stay out of gender / identity politics and play the game.
but instead the logic is usually "Nah if you don't pick a side you're homophobic."

Yeah I haven't seen one actual negative word about the prospect but everyone's got their pitchforks out lol
3 -
i didn´t said something about homophobic, i meant more that getting some lgbt representation seems to be such a big deal, even though it should be just as normal as anything else by now. atleast i thought so.
1 -
There have been comments that were homophobic in posts, the mods have deleted the comments and following up with their own comments that say homophobic comments will not be tolerated. So the bad comments have been removed making the other side look like they're saying "how dare you" to nothing.
4 -
Just in general - That's been the issue
People would prefer not to see constant threads demanding a gay character
Some people take this as they don't like gay people when in reality it's just people want to focus on the game and not identity / gender politics
People who want gay character start claiming there is homophobia in the community
I've yet to see any blatant examples on this forum it's just people can't take a hint. As a gay man yes it's nice to see a community so supportive about how people choose to live their lives. However some people on this forum is taking it too far and accusing the rest of the community of something that isn't actually happening. At least not at the level they are claiming. I've personally yet to see any homophobia and I've read every single thread about the topic. It's just people getting tired of having this topic shoved in their face every other week including myself.
You could say don't read it / look at it. Okay sure that's not an issue - However I have a problem with just people accusing others of being homophobic out of the blue with no evidence aside from they didn't show undying support. That's my personal issue in this whole thing. Each time that happens it just makes us look bad.

„I don't want that type of stuff in the game either. Your right it clearly doesn't fit. I mean people want us to be more accepting to those people and we should, but it shouldn't be in a video game if it simply doesn't have to be. Its like spending money on something random just because you wanna spend money. There is no good reason for this“
that is directly copied and pasted from one of the other threads. I didn’t link you to it because I don’t want to rile people up against it. But as far as I see it, this person has definitely something against LGBT inclusion in DbD/video games
4 -
Thanks For finding that. Also makes sense if the mods are deleting trash posts why I don't see them lol.

you got a good point there, seeing the large amount of supportive comments is actually heartwarming.
and like i said, i didn´t wanted to point out that there are homophobic people. my intension is more that having a representation of that seems to be a problem. what is sad, because having for example a gay men in a game may seem unnecessary for a lot of people, but for someone like me it would been have cool, and be way more easy to understand that it is normal and that there is nothin wrong with me when i struggeld with my sexuality. and there a plenty of jung people that could need that.
btw sorry, my english is not the best xD

I'm not against an lgbt character in dbd. What I AM against is a character who's lgbt just for the sake of being lgbt, and that's it. Without an actual interesting story. If being lgbt is literally all there is to the character, I think people would just feel insulted, and nobody would be happy.
10 -
There have been a lot, actually, however moderators have been cleaning them up fairly quickly for the most part.
3 -
Behaviour might not be fast at fixing bugs 😁 but they have amazing writers. The lore is dept and interesting so when they add it, they will make sure that is properly done.
3 -
Tbh nobody is important and I want everyone to stay away from me
4 -
But there's also been a lot of people baselessly claiming things to provoke stuff too. I was in a thread from a few days ago and watched every single post as they were made. There were a couple of people claiming the homophobia on that specific thread was disgusting. I literally read all the post as they happened it never happened.
I won't deny it - Yes there are probably some post I just didn't see because I wasn't on. However I have seen baseless claims of homophobia. Both are equally awful and shouldn't be happening.
5 -
I am not really debating anything else, I was just addressing that one thing. That's all.
2 -
The really vile ones tend to get removed quickly and I'm thankful for that.
The ones that annoy me are the ones saying "it shouldn't be added coz they'll be shoving it in our faces by adding it". by changing a pronoun.
Or the classic "sexuality has no place here ". And yet there was no backlash by the same people when hetero relationships were added but thats none of my business...
5 -
Can we just stop with the righteous circle jerk discussions already? There's already like 7 others and hundreds in the comments of the actual LGBT discussion posts.
8 -
When the character's main trait is that they are gay, that's the issue. Gay people are just the same as straight people.
5 -
If people are really being asses about an LGBT character, it might be possible that they're transphobic.
0 -
Personally, I'm more than happy to see more and more people represented in the game
It would be sad tho to see that the LGBT community is represented in DbD with a character which has nothing special about them, apart from the fact of being part of the LGBT community
Like, we have Claudette who devoted her life to studying plants and sharing her knowledge with as many people as possible on her forum
We have Jake who went against his family will to live life as he wanted, refusing to surrender to social pressure at all costs
We have Yui who basically founded a ######### support group for women's right all by herself by overcoming sexism in street racing
It would suck to have the new character join the roster just because, oh yeah, they're gay
If that will be the case it's going to be pretty underwhelming, if you ask me

I think it's turning into a Springtrap situation. Most people don't hate the idea of an LGBT character, it's just they don't want to keep seeing the same posts over and over about it. There's not much we can do to influence BHVR about the character now, so it's best to wait and see what they come up with and to stop bickering amongst yourselves and we can all go back to whining about Spirit and DS as it should be.
5 -
Yes its definitely shoving it down our throats when we exist today due to heterosexuality. Whining about heterosexuality is the equivalent of being unemployed and whining about movies about people having jobs.

I've rarely seen comments that i would classify as homophobic. Some people drew conclusions in different threads only because someone else said they don't want it to be forced and fear the character to be one-dimensional. Or they see it as some forced agenda by some groups. You can discuss about that if that's actually the case or not, but you can't make those accusations only because you feel like it and someone disagrees with your opinions and wishes, because those are serious accusations...
4 -
to be fair, while I haven’t accused someone to ne homophobic, why are these concerns only ever brought up when it comes to LGBT representation?
i never see these arguments against any other representation, well maybe when adding people of color.. but other than that, there is just no reason to assume BHVR would create the character like that.
and there are many worse comments in those threads directly saying they don’t want LGBT in the game because it would bring in politics or it would be shoved in their faces or because sexuality has no place in the game. Those arguments can be held against many already existing backstories in the game, but it’s only ever a problem with LGBT.

If you want some more quotes,
"I don't care about having it in the game but a part of me absolutely despises it."
"You can be against the idea of gay people, hell I am, and still have gay friends."
(responding to 'The new killer could be LGBTQ+')
"Ew ugh ugh it's so yuck to think about."
(responding to 'what's wrong with LGBTQ+ people?')
"So many things that I can't discuss on a video game forum. SO MANY things."
"LGBT people are nothing more than a political statement."
It goes on. You're just not looking either hard enough or before the mods gets to Thanosing them, as they very well should.
