VPN'ing should be a bannable offense and a ping limiter needs to be added

Please don't get me wrong when I say this, but I don't care about winning or losing. I care about having a fun match. Getting hit when I didn't deserve it is not fun in any way whatsoever.

Why is VPN'ing still not a bannable offense? I just went against a Nurse from Peru using a VPN and he hit me three times from very far away due to his horrible VPN.

To add to this thread, a ping limiter seriously needs to be added for wifi players. This goes for both survivors and killers. I don't want my match cucked by a survivor who is going to get disconnected due to their ######### internet. On top of that, I don't want to get hit from a mile away by a wifi abusing killer either. Please either remove crossplay all together or add a ping limiter to prevent this. OR allow us to see the Killer's ping so we may choose to dodge or stay.

i agree. or at least fine tune hit detection to actually work against vpn. it's very annoying.

  • As someone who has tried a VPN with the game before let me give the counter:

    1) Hits are server calculated anyway. I think they were turned off recently but I'm not sure if they're still off. I played when server sided hit detection was on, and you could feel it cuck you as killer and the whole aiming felt "off" somehow. This really helped with VPN issues.

    2) Not a single server over a number of games complained about lag and believe me if you get any hits or kills the survivor greatly disagrees with they will let you know about it. I kept expecting it in the endgame chat because I was worried it might be laggy (i played when the game was p2p and I know how bad it can be as survivor) but nobody had an issue and I got a number of ggs. So I guess it depends where they are VPNing from and the quality of their own connection and their VPN. (I imagine free are quite bad).

    3) I only did it because BHVR messed up queue times. I don't have all day to play and sitting in a queue for 20 minutes leaves me very little time to play the game. Sometimes it was queue 20 minutes just to get a lobby with 2 keys and 2 toolboxes at which point I wondered why I bothered playing at all. VPN to U.S which had a much larger playerbase drastically cut those queue times down.

On the top of wifi I imagine most players in the game will be using wifi. Most people don't have cables trailing all over their home and its only really the dedicated online gamers that insist on cables which is a minority. As for those who frequently disconnect due to their connection dropping, well the dc penalty for them is probably quite high for them by now so they likely wont be playing anyway

Just went against another VPN player from Peru :) this time it was a Bubba. Bumping this up so it gets noticed because it is a genuine problem that needs to be fixed. This has actually been a problem since dedicated servers were released.

Sorry, but your ping still dictates unfair hits or not. I know you find it hard to believe, but just because you have a good connection to the server does not mean the killer's ping is good to the server. If a survivor has bad connection, they will get hit no matter what is on their screen. If a killer has bad connection, the killer gets free hits from EVERY survivor. It has always been this way since dedicated servers were released and no matter what BHVR says, this will not change.

To your second point, not many people talk in post game chat anymore because this game is only filled with try hard sweat lords and most of us would rather not bother speaking to others anymore. Also, console survivors can not speak. Do you think I waited around to tell the killer he was laggy? Nope. I checked his profile to see they were from Peru and I left. I don't spectate matches because I don't care.

Let me paste your other post discussing the same thing : https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/228167/wifi-bad-connection-players

Read my comment again in this previous post of yours in case you forgot. Having a ping limiter wouldn’t be fair for players like me. Stop asking for it, until BHVR adds a server for us and other regions with no servers then a ping limiter shouldn’t be implemented. You seem to think players with high ping are either playing on wifi, have bad internet, or are console players. I play on PC, wired connection, and I have great (which you can also see from my comment in your previous post).

I don't experience this often but when I do its frustrating. They should not ban VPN's but have a limit for all players on how high their ping can be otherwise its unfair for everyone and especially when being chased / doing chases. This way it just makes it more fair.

EDIT: Forgot to add, along with a ping limiter they should add more servers to different parts of the world such as West Asia and some other places.

Thank you emperor xi jinping but it doesn't work that way in the ussa yet (they're probably getting to work on it right now though). Nobody tells me how to use my computer unless they want to pay for it. When they try to, they get uninstalled, trash reviewed, and I never touch their garbage again and if possible I get a refund or when on an account on their own site (so I won't lose other games or money) or if they had the gall to do it on their own launcher with nothing lost along with it I'll do a chargeback on the games to boot if refund isn't an option.

The clip was taken from somebody's survive with friends twitch stream, but perfectly articulates the sensible response to this thread's intent as well.

Makes me laugh when people complain about ping and blame it on someone having bad internet... You clearly have no idea what latency is or how it works if you are blaming "bad internet" for it 😂 - Latency is caused by the time it takes for a packet of data to do a round trip. The further that packet has to travel, the longer it takes. It doesn't matter if you're on a 1Mb/s line or a 1Gb/s line... The packet of data is so small that the throughout speed doesn't make a difference.

Some technologies get slightly different latency amounts due to how they work (fewer handshakes, error checking etc) and some ISP's use different peering routes so it may improve latency slightly if the route the data takes has less congestion on it. But realistically, if the data is leaving the country you live in and is sent via the transatlantic cables, then the latency which be pretty much the same no matter what your connection speed.

As Stargazer has said up above, BHVR have not set up dedicated servers in every country. Players from countries without dedicated servers will be matched with players in other countries... The data will therefore have further to travel resulting in higher latency.

Having a "ping limiter" on there is incredibly stupid as wait times will be even longer than what they are now (and incredibly pointless once the hit detection moves to the server)

It's also worth pointing out that I play on WiFi and have zero issues when playing either role (and I can max out my symmetrical gigabit connection using WiFi) - Just shows that blaming people for having "bad internet" or playing on WiFi is stupid 👍 (especially when in your other post, you claim you have the mind boggling speed of 20Mb down... From my point of view, you're the one with bad internet)

    1) That is not correct. It is killer client calculated which is 'supposedly' validated by the server to cross-reference between survivor position/killer position @ 0ms compared to your ping. If your ping is high you still have an advantage because hit validation has a threshold (not too sure on the exact amount of ping for the threshold). In melee based online games small amounts of latency are noticeable for hits that look like they missed. Don't continue to spread that hits are server calculated. It's not properly informed.

You might not be able to VPN to america from the EU and still have the same advantage anymore but hits are NOT server calculated.

    2) Good to hear.

    3) Not sure where you're based but you were lets say 250ms ping with your vpn. If you're going for max range lunges it will 100% be dedicated on their end.

OP doesn't understand that wifi provides almost equal latency in the hop from computer to modem. There is nothing wrong with a wifi connection that has zero interference and good connection.

Unfortunately for me I'm forced to use a VPN and I'm in a very unlucky predicament to do so. I live in Western Australia and there are 2 dbd servers near me. Singapore and Sydney. Singapore also unfortunately has players connecting to the server as far away as Japan/China (250ms mark I'd say). I have 56ms to Singapore and 60ms to Sydney. Therefore, without a VPN to Sydney I get matched to the Singapore server and verse killers with very high ping. The dedicated hits renders the game unplayable in Singapore server. I have to VPN to Sydney to play against other AU/NZ players that will have low ping on killer. As you can see I have no choice. If they ban VPN usage they would have to implement a server picker too because otherwise players in situations like me cannot play.
