Killer is Not Fun and Survivor is Boring

Looking back on my posts and my games lately I just come to the conclusion that I just don’t find Killer fun. It’s just stressful and the whole experience just leaves me angry and demotivated. Rank 13 that constantly gets rank 1 SWF teams with the added measure of one being a twitch streamer. Gens start popping quick and unless you down a survivor quick everything snowballs fast. I don’t have fun in a game where I have to go hard and aggressive from the start and the results of my efforts is maybe a few hooks and everyone escaping. I lose the majority of my matches as Killer.

Survivor on the other hand, while more fun, is also more boring. It’s also not stressful at all cause I know I have three other people backing me up. I’m not upset even if I die cause as long as two people escape it’s a draw at least. However more often that not I don’t struggle at all with killers and I don’t even have meta perks. It will take the killer three times to kill me, but if I’m healed after every unhook then that’s just another life extension. Unless the killer is a red rank, then that’s when it’s gets fun and somewhat stressful.

Math wise it’s just not worth it to me to be Killer. Got four survivors. Takes 3 times to successfully kill one. But takes two hits to down. If they heal and are taken off hook quick then thats 24 successful hits you need to get a 4k. However most survivors have meta perks like DS, Dead Hard, etc. so counting those into the math, and yes they usually have both and with Adrenaline that’s almost double the hits you will need to do. So around 48 hits, give or take. Unless you slug all the survivors but that rarely works cause they can just heal their downed teammate in a snap.

I think after I get everything in the rift I’m just going to put the game down till the next event or rift. I wanted to get good as killer but the struggle isn’t fun and the rewards for my efforts are in vain or nonexistent. I applaud killers who are amazing at this game and can get a 2k much less a 4k. Me? I would be amazed to get one and I use to be rank 8 before I depiped to 13 due to constantly getting SWF red rank teams. Maybe down the road I’ll try Killer again but probably not. I don’t enjoy it anymore and I’m having to push myself to just keep trying and not giving up. I’ll probably continue to play survivor with some friends, and no I don’t use comms so I’m not being a hypocrite. Just party up. But even then it’s just a meh experience.

Not only that but when I first played Killer it was amazing. I felt like a horror movie icon. Survivors were scared and ran. They panicked and made mistakes. It felt like an actual horror game. I get it that that play style can’t go on forever. People get better and all that and I can’t blame them at all for it. But it breaks my mindset of being a terrifying killer and honestly breaks my immersion when they fix gens in front of my face( I’ll hit them, then they will just continue on gen) or save their teammate in front of my face. They tbag, click flashlights at me, etc. I can’t imagine Jason or Freddy in their movies would have their victims do that to them. So my very own horror game where I’m the killer is now just a comedy, and I’m the punchline.

That's pretty much the game now. You either get put against SWF who know they are the power role, finish the gens in minutes and teabag and click their flashlight at every opportunity making the match a frustrating and unenjoyable experience. Or you get put against solos and steam roll them and win with one gen done if they're lucky. Neither of these are enjoyable imo.

I don’t like the game. You’re right. I like the idea of the game and it has spurts of fun. But the game has so many issues and flaws in design and gameplay. But it’s more than that. I explained it in my post have stacked against Killers it is. You would have to hit people over 24 times to get a 4K. Not including the perks and heals and such. Plus I said survivor was more fun but it was also boring at the same time.

Playing as huntress or deathslinger is satisifying when land a hit, and Bubba's saw is powerful enough to let u get to red rank. And all of them are not very diffcult to master.

I play as Deathslinger. He’s fun but still. Cant get much of a win with him either. I use to be a purple ranked Killer and I’ve only been playing for two months. Honestly the game has changed so much just since Jan to me it’s almost unrecognizable to when I started. Not in a good way either. The atmosphere in my matches and just the feel of the whole thing feels off and different. I dont struggle much with Survivor, it’s not intense. With Killer it’s just all stress and hard play and no payoff. Cause even if I’m hooking people more than a fishing tournament could hope to do I still only come away with one kill, sometimes not even that.

Playing as deathslinger is much more stressful than huntress or Bubba IMO. I quit playing him like months and I find this game not that sweaty.

I tried Myers as a change up. Survivors were right in front of my face and I was still missing hits. I guess I have to be right up in their bunghole to even land a hit. I DC’d from the match after missing some hits that honestly should have landed. I was right on their back.

I don't think either side is boring. Playing survivor is fun but only in chases, otherwise it's meh. Killer on the other hand I think is the most fun role in the game, but it's very stressful. I have realized that the less I care about each match the more fun I have from killer. The reason for this stress is the general unbalance around the game. I don't feel stressed when I'm using Spirit against survivors with no items but I do feel very stressed playing Legion with full addons against 4 items or Blight in a match with Swamp offering (at least thats getting fixed). If these imbalanced were to get fixed I don't think killer role would need any more changes.

I actually agree with that. This game is a horror game. The killer is suppose to be a forced reckoned with. Something that takes 4 survivors to take down. But it doesn’t feel that way. Instead of being in a horror movie it feels like a comedy. With the killers being the punchline.

You know what I might play this on repeat while playing killer. It might make me relax and not care as much cause I won’t win either way lol

Same here. Mainly just play solo survivor now.

It's a mix between killer becoming "too easy" and new content being boring in some respects. I've been playing since 2017 so I got used to that challenge, over time due to killers buffs (a lot of which were needed, some not) and pretty significant but relatively fair survivors nerfs, the game is just too easy now. The SWF god sqauds still make this game a joke unless you're a god Nurse, sure.

But I actually don't remember the last time I faced a good team. They're so incredibly rare, the vast majority of survivors are very bad (though the same is true with killer, Ruin/Undying has inflated a lot of killers skill much like SWF. Cleanse a Freddy's Ruin 2 minutes in and watch him panic). And I have very little faith in this MMR system.

In regards to new content the only killer released in the last 4/5 chapters I actually enjoyed playing is Blight, he's fantastic. Everything else sucked and I got bored of them within 2 weeks. Pyramid head was extremely unimaginitive in power design and is exclusively played by tunnelers. Deathslinger may as well just teleport you to a hook when he sees you thanks to those hitscan-like insta shots, you can pull off some cool shots and I like the reeling 'em in part. But he's very dull outside of that. Twins is just horrendously boring to play as/against, and trickster just looks like a worse hybrid of Huntress and Legion. They're either making dull hybrids of existing killers, or making killers that have minimal to no counterplay making for boring matches for both sides.

Also no new maps, breakable walls are a pointlessly forced mechanic, new perks, much like new killers are just worse/objectively better versions of existing perks, I could go on.

Both are fun and incredibly frustrating and demotivating because so many issues are just ignored by the devs. It comes across as laziness on the best of days.

Have to agree with everything you said.

    Especially breakable walls.

I unironically did this for a while last year, and this year I've taken a nearly 3 month break from my ~30 hour a week playtime to play warframe.

Nothing shows what a waste of time and effort those walls are better than maps like Wretched Shop. They don't know if they want them to be a buff for killer or survivor. Depending on where that window spawns its either a god window or less than worthless. Such a pointless waste of time.

Killer is stressful and underwhelming as of now, and the ridiculous amount of teammates that are high ranks yet play like rank 15s is so infuriating.

Can I ask what you find stressful about killer? Genuine question not trying to be cocky or anything. I know it might come across that way from my posts.

For me killer is the easiest its ever been to the point of boredom and the amount of tools killers have for most situations now compared to 2 years ago is crazy.

I suppose map choice annoys me a lot. Hawkins for example makes me want to shut off the game.

Since I really only play two M1 killers (Wraith and Demo) I sometimes struggle with map pressure because the survivors I usually get are pretty decent but at the same time it helps me learn and get better at them.

That makes sense. Wraith has always been in a weird spot, he's gone through several power overhauls and always been bad to mediocre, that said I've always liked playing him despite his simplicity. I'm interested in seeing how his new cloaked speed affects his map pressure long term, its a change he's needed for a long time and I'm glad the devs finally listened. I think that hit and run Wraith build is about to become very dangerous.

Demo I enjoy a lot but I only really do well when I play very defensively with portals at gens. Similar to Hag. Very few people seem to play him, I guess its for the same reason people don't like to play Hag.

You must be lucky then. Where I’m from late at night is when I play and I get nothing but the sweat 4 man red rank squads.

I can still get somewhat decent teams during the daytime but the wait times are long. Once all the survivors are on at night the queues are instant but the matches are mind gratingly dull. I assume its just the sheer volume of survivors vs killers. I would kill to have matches that actually challenge me again and aren't just "hook, go to gen, down, hook, repeat".

Survivors is really easy, especially if you stack up those 2nd chance perks plus an item which basically serves as a 5th perk. Of course there's the swf which I can't blame people for playing with friends, but it just makes every info perk obsolete, map offerings, to make it even easier because some maps are atrocious, I have personal grudge vs corn maps, and whenever I load into one as killer I pretty much accept defeat from the start. Most people play this game on 'easy' difficulty with how much they can tilt the game in their favor, then tbag and click like they achieved something amazing. I just turn off my brain and chase whoever I can find as killer, because after getting 360'd tbagged, clickied, and told to commit suicide every other after game chat, you just don't care anymore I guess. If you bring broken addons or good perk build as killer, you're a crutch tryhard, if you don't bring any addons/perks or even mediocore ones, you get called trash and baby etc. So it's a lose-lose situation most of the time. I love this game, but over time it lost it's identity imo, because killers are joke most of the games, that's why you see same few killers at red ranks all the time.

I actually don't see as much toxicity as I used to. It's still bad but not as bad as it once was. It was REALLY bad on Xbox but after moving to PC most players are pretty chill. I've actually had tons of good convos with killers/survivors after matches on PC. Way more good than bad. On console I would get told to kill myself, get cancer, etc a hundred times a day. I even got reported so much my xbox account got a warning and put into low priority matchmaking in other games, just because I won as killer. I literally never even replied to hate.

If you're having that hard of a time I'd recommend some of the killer guides on youtube on how to play the more common tiles. Flashlights are also pretty easily countered at unsafe pallets and when picking up a survivor, stand still above the survivor and wait, if nothing happens turn around and way. Any survivor thats within range will have to start running to be infront of you and will usually be tricked by it.

Also, if you're on PC, turn off post game chat and make it so only friend can post messages on your profile. It does wonders for your mental health.

If the devs didn't want to upset survivors Pallet Vacuums, original DS, original BT, double pallet jungle gyms, old Mettle of Man and such would all still exist. The game is significantly easier than it once was for killer, veteran killers are leaving left and right because they don't find killer challenging anymore. It seems to me that you just need to spend some more time learning killer if that's how you feel.

Survivor has always been relatively easy but thats kind of the point, their objectives are spread between 4. There's less pressure on individual players.

I wish we could play old builds of this game so you could truly see just how easy 2020/21 killer really is.

I don’t even use meta perks like a lot of red rank survivors and I’m a purple rank and still I don’t struggle much in a match. I honestly turn on survivor when i want to relax and calm down after a few terrible matches as killer. That’s exactly what is wrong with this game. It should be stressful and a headache sometimes to play survivor cause you are fighting for your life. Instead it’s a walk in the park and the killer side, which is suppose to be the power role that you stalk and kill your enemies, is more stressful and rage inducing.
