The hatch mechanic is broken for both sides

It's not fun to dominate a team just for the last guy to take the hatch. It's not fun to do all the job in a match for your team to just die and then the killer closes the hatch and you are dead, because the EGC timer is way too short.

So I wonder, what if they would make it so in order for the hatch to open when you are the last you have to do a gen or half of it? What if they would return the hatch to its old fashion, activates only after 2 gens? It's not fun or fair that after I stomped a team with 0 gens done the last guy escapes in under a minute.

Also, what if the EGC timer would be longer if you are the last person in the match? If the killer gets the hatch first you are dead 98.537225% of the time.

Meh, let's say it's ok for survivor. But what for killer? It is a punishment for doing my job correctly. Same with NOED, except I don't really have an easy counter to the hatch. Honestly, the 2 gens were really a good thing. You did bad, you don't deserve a win. And the easiest way to fix the fact that the last guy would just hide is the following: if the last survivor doesn't touch any generator for 30 seconds, killer instinct activates and remains active for the rest of the trial.

Maybe you should stop caring about the single individual who managed to slip from your grasp, and you should start caring more about the fact that you killed THREE of four players.

The game needs to do a better job of pushing the idea that it's not just a 4K that's a killer win. Getting a 2K is practically a draw, and getting a 3K is a pretty solid win for the killer. I think that'd help soothe killer frustrations tremendously.

The game can push whatever it wants, that you will still see a 3K instead of a 4K in your screen if you don't slug last survivor. Slugging for the 4K is boring and if you don't do you get robbed of your 4K in a cheap way.

Just count it as a win and move on.

I would much rather have them escape through the hatch then them hiding and making me have to wait untill EGC finaly kills them.

The game is over at that point no need to drag it out

Except if I get to the point where no gens were made and I dominated them, why should the last guy get a free win? I care about the 4k, it is my job. I don't have a problem with people escaping, I have one when they didn't fufill their objective. You didn't manage to do your job, you don't deserve a free win for being bad.

If you wanna higher your escape rate I would recommend Wake Up. I like running it especially on solo q days where your team is almost non existing.

You just wait at one of the exits and once the killer kicked it you can analyse the situation and rather a) just open it very quickly or b) do the first 15-20% right before the first red light turns on and wait until the killer leaves to do the rest.

    Works in 9/10 times.

Even against a bubba on midwich. Choose the right exit, prepare the exit and finish it at the perfect time.

The killer has by default the main advantage when it comes to the hatchgame. It makes sense because he already won the game, everything you should have at this point is a very slight chance to bail out (and you have).

The only thing that's weird is that the hatch becomes visible even if multiple survivors are alive.

It shouldnt. If you are the last survivor or when all 5 gens got done it should become visible. Because either it's a typical hatch scenario were you are the last survivor and you shouldve a chance to make a bail out aka the intention of the hatch. Or you did at least your objective and it doesn't matter if you make it through the exit or through the hatch. And you kinda deserve it.

This would also fiy some frustrations with the key because it feels not that great if you, as a killer, could lets say kill one guy at 1 gen left. Like you worked very hard and it was extremely close but you were able to turn the game around into your favor. But then all 3 just escape through the hatch.

The idea of hatch is really stupid in my opinion. The fact that you can "lose" the game because of a random hatch spawn is ridiculous. No respectable competitive game has a free win button like that.

So is holding M1 on a gen, doesn't change the fact that you can't win without doing it.

Except there's nothing that states the one survivor didn't do their job. What if they were looking for your Hex Ruin, or they spent most of their time rescuing their potato teammates? What if two people D/Cd and you kill the third before the one good survivor finishes their second gen?

Think about the opposite position: You're matched with three potatoes that get themselves killed before the third or fourth gen is done. Is that just supposed to be a 'guess I'll lose' moment for the one survivor that managed to do well?

  • Pukenplag
    Pukenplag Member Posts: 1,454

You didn't do well if you never repaired in a game in which no one did. 5 or 4 gens left, that to me means you didn't do your job. Ok, you gave an example of how a good survivor can lose without it. What about a good killer that was 2 times better than any of the survivors, does he deserve just a 3k for doing his job perfectly? No dude, I destroyed your team without even letting a chance, not really, because you get rewarded for bad play.

  • Firellius
    Firellius Member Posts: 4,354

That's the problem. You may have destroyed the other three, but you never went up against number 4. An individual survivor can't go toe to toe with a killer, and shouldn't be expected to. The hatch exists to give the last survivor at least a chance.

Does the one survivor deserve to lose just because his three teammates are potatoes?

Mind you, even with the hatch in play, the killer scours the map faster, some killers are way faster, so the likelihood of the killer beating the last survivor to the hatch is actually pretty high. If the survivor beats you to the hatch, just accept it. You got three kills.

And as an inversion of 'why should he get the free win?', ask yourself: Why do you get the free kill?

So if I also 2 hooked the last guy? Does he also deserve to win? No dude, I destroyed them, there is no reason to give him a chance. Just return the 2 gen mechanic. At least then I will be ok, they actually tried to do something. Why do I get a free kill? Because I did my job entirely and I deserve it. You, as the survivor, might be good. But, in that match, you didn't do your objective which means you don't deserve to win. Simple.

if you're killing 3 people before even a single gen pops why are you even complaining????? curb stomping baby survivors isn't impressive.

literally just stop caring so much about a 4k. it's weird.

The only unfair aspect of hatch is how it is opened with keys.

The last survivor escaping or not is fair, if they found hatch they escape if not they have a slim chance to escape by the exit gates.

Regardless the killer already won at that point they don't need an extra kill for free.

I love how you people call it a free kill, free kill because I actually did everything I should have done correctly? If that is a free kill, then how is the fact that the last guy made it out without doing anything he was supposed to?

It is also weird to care so much about a single escape you can get by the most stupid mechanic I've ever seen in a video game.

Here I am just trying to get a survivor hooked before three gens pop. And everyone here taking about 2ks and 4ks

  • AChaoticKiller
    AChaoticKiller Member Posts: 3,104

you already won why should the last guy who has literally no chance against a half decent killer to finish any gens not have a chance to escape?

The fact is it's a free kill without hatch, it was introduced so the last survivor has a chance to escape when hatch stand offs became a thing they eventually made it so hatch could be closed so games could end. Even if they listened to you they won't do anything when it comes to last survivor hatch escapes because it's fair and ends games faster then 15 minutes of doing nothing but looking for a hiding survivor which is how games used to go.

By the way you're not entitled to a 4k just because you won regardless of how bad the survivors did.

"You're not entitled to get a win because you were very good and did everything perfectly". I'm sorry, I will never agree with this kind of thinking. As the last, stomped survivor, you also aren't entitled to the free escape. Just tell me, how is it fair that I lose a kill because I did everything correctly and the survivors did bad?

As I said, a good way to get rid of the unfairness is so: as the last survivor, you must repair a generator for a total of 50% in order for the hatch to appear. After not interacting with a generator for 30 seconds while not in a radius of 24 meters to the killer, they get a killer instinct for you for the remainder of the trial. After the 50% was completed, you see the aura of the hatch, and the killer does as well.

hatch is supposed to give the last survivor one more shot. hatch standoffs are already leaning towards the killer cuz he doesnt need to worry about anything stopping him like the survivor has to worry about the killer, he is faster than the survivor, he doesnt need to hide. the chances of the survivor finding the hatch are probably around 20%.

Ok then. Lets use that same logic the other way around. Lets say that the survivor team are great and do all of the gens with no one dying. Suddenly the entity pops out of the ground kills one random survivor.

This is essentially the same thing. The superior team being deprived of a full win despite clearly dominating and deserving it.

By your logic they should just accept that 3 escapes is a win and move on.

It's fair because you already won :)

As said you're not entitled to the 4k, it doesn't matter what you think since it's just an opinion this is also my opinion one backed up by gameplay mechanics and many others also agree with this.

Also as said a good killer will easily find you if they patrol gens and certain killers will make it impossible such as doc or demo who can both easily find survivors who try to work on gens also perk such as whispers. Seriously against any good killer you're not getting gen progress.

I mean as long as the killer has to do something to activate this simular to how the survivor has to find the hatch while moving slower and having to avoid detection from something and survivors have a way to stop it from happening like how killers can shut the hatch then i wouldn't have a problem with it.

    What, you mean like NOED?

Again, why would the killer deserve a free kill on survivor number 4, in disregard of all other circumstances?

Number 4 is still alive and as long as they are, they deserve to have a shot at winning. You're up in arms over the idea that survivor #4 does not deserve a 'free win' but you're acting pretty entitled to that free 4th kill. Work for it.

Besides, you can flip that around, too. If you don't have any kills yet by the time gen #5 goes live, should the survivors just win instantly, since the killer 'didn't do his objective and doesn't deserve to win'?

Ehhh that logic don't add up pal. One's an optional boring tactic, the other is a requirement.

I think the hatch is too easy, screws up a lot of games because survivors will all focus on getting hatch when a little teamwork could have let them get a team win.

I've had lots of boring games where I can't find the last two survivors only to find out they were both camping the hatch and hoping the other would die. It's supposed to be a last chance rather than the goal.

And don't get me started about teams that start the game planning on hatch. When I see you're trying to get out early, I help you by tunneling you right the hell out so you can get on with whatever it was that made you not want to play a full trial.

I firmly believe that most survivors hate every aspect of this game and would have more fun if they would just play a single player game on easy.
