Is there any downside to being the obsession?

I was reading the perk nemesis which forces an obsession if a survivor stuns the killer. So like ok??? How is that helpful to the killer? Obsession seems like such an outdated mechanic, If anything you don’t wanna be obsessed with the obsession because of a lovely perk called decisive strike.

I think the killer just gets more points for killing the obsession, unless they're using something like OOO in which case I think it makes the obsession's aura visible.

Nope, it's actually just a buff because your teammates can see when you're in a chase and killers with obsession perks will want to avoid you.

Perk interactions. For example you use nemesis + PWYF to get 15% bonus movement speed. Pretty good combo on instadowning killers.

    Obsessions are completly perk related.

Sometimes it means the killer doesn't want to m1 you.

Other times it means getting instadowned and moried without even touching a hook

On which? It was great on old bubba, but new bubba is stronger without it bc then you can use your chainsaw to break pallets and you can play with 3 charges.

I mean, it's not meta obviously but it's decent. Any killer with instadown can use it.

I really liked this build on old bubba. So i tried to recreate it. Myers with that + infectious: you need slugging bc you have only limited time instadown and survivor can play it safe. Billy cant use his mobility anymore. Ghostface can do nothing when his power is on cooldown.

Imo opinion it handycaps killer too much, so the time to get stacks is not rewarded. But maybe a new killer will benefit from it, it was so much fun.

Back in the day, being the obsession could be very bad because originally Dying Light worked by tunneling the obsession out as fast as possible. Terrible perk design, and that's since been changed.

Now, the biggest threat when being the obsession as survivor is Rancor, which can get your insta-killed once all five gens are done.

Otherwise, when it comes to being the obsession... eh. Ups and downs.

As killer, there are some fun builds that can be done by taking advantage of the obsession mechanic, and Nemesis is often a part of those: it can be quite useful when combined with other obsession perks.

Nemesis is an interaction perk which you mostly see paired with pwyf or rancor. By itself, nemesis should be the most useless killer perk in DbD.

I mean if they have rancor yeah.

Yeah nope actually the obsession is a benefit for survivor as it tells the rest of your team when you are getting chased and you get bonus BP even if you die. Only with other perks like Rancor does it have a downside.

    Pretty simple answer for this

Killer have rancor = being obsession bad

Killer not have rancor = being obsession not bad.

Yeah I wish being the obsession had some natural downsides. It feels like it should tbh, aside from specific perks

I wonder if STBFL and Rancor become a basekit. What will happen?

I think Obsession would become a main character in horror movie

I could see something being basekit, although probably not rancor at least. STBFL seems more realistic but still not super probable.

Maybe something like the killer gets buffs specific to the obsession, like the killer gets a slight movement speed boost against obsession in chase

By default, you gain extra BP if you die or survive as an obsession. There is no score-related event for the killer tho.

The obsession status is there to interact with perks, and that's it. The effect of Nemesis by itself doesn't seem much, but it allows easy stacking of Play with your Food for the most fearsome (IMO) Bubba build. It also allows a killer with rancor to Mori more than one survivor.

downside depends on the perks in play, normally no but the killer has reasons to keep the obsession hooked, injured or even keeping them for last. so in essence no, but dependent upon the perk in play there may be some issues. now I am going to say this, the killer gets points for killing the obsession, but ALSO there is an achievement for escaping as the obsession and also you get points for escaping as the obsession too. so it evens out over all. Examples of perks that affect the obession: remember me - 1 hit = 4 extra seconds to open the door for everyone else, so it's in the killer's interest to hit you 2-4 times (ranks 1-3) and kill you in some way before gates are powered that way the obsession won't avoid the extra opening time.
