1st person survivors & 3rd person killers
I feel like the general consensus is that killers are weaker than survivors, and I feel that way myself, so while thinking about what could be changed, this hit me.
I'm not saying it's a GOOD idea, but wouldn't it make a defendable amount of sense if the killers were 3rd person and survivors were 1st person camera views?
Technically survivors are supposed to be helpless in horror, right? And killers are supposed to have environmental insight that survivors don't have.
I understand that a 3rd person killer would be broken though. Survivors would have a hell of a time trying to get out of a chase.
Maybe all characters should be 1st person, although cosmetic sales would tank I'm sure, haha.
Otherwise, it'd be nice to get a base kit buff across the board I think.
Survivors get self care base kit at half speed, killers get shadowborn and/or predator or something base kit.
I don't know, I'm not a game dev. But I feel like BHVR could throw anything at the wall in any old PTB server and just see what sticks, right? Like the insane overwatch custom games, and I feel like maybe they should take advantage of that.
What do you guys think would make the game more evenly matched? Even if it's something buck wild like 2 killers, 15 generators, 8 survivors or something like that.
Or like my actual opinion, which is COMPLETELY REMOVE TOOLBOXES FROM THE GAME FOREVER ENTIRELY COMPLETELY FOR GOOD 😎

i would like to see them testing it on a PTB outside of any other new features or chapters.
Maybe make it so that survivors change to 3rd person view during specific actions like gen repairs or opening exit gates? Don’t know if that would work though..

That would be good for an event, to be honest. Just imagine it...

While I doubt it would work, that would make the repairing generators terrifying to me again.

Maybe that’s the change that will address gen rush! Survivors have to get off the gen all the time to make sure they are not being stalked by Myers or Ghostface
5 -
I agree, it would be a really fun event actually haha

Turning my camera to see Michael Myers already scares me 8/10 times. If I turned it in first person and saw him just standing there, I'd probably have a panic attack every other game.
In general, I also just think this idea would be incredibly atmospheric, match DbD horror roots a little bit more.

See? That is what I am saying. Just make it an event. It will be one of the best events ever!

A small April Fools event where this happens would honestly be pretty fun to play
4 -
would be cool if we got this for an event every now and again.
2 -
Maybe start as an event, or PTB, but if it’s successful make this the alternate game mode!
with VR compatibility of course.

Honestly id love 1st person Survivor as a option. Even if its a big disadvantage because itd just make the game alittle scarier and fun imo. No mither is literally a perk you run to make the game more challenging idk why this wouldnt be a thing.

No. 3rd person killer would make killer harder to play, first person survivor destroys looping, and both go against the lore. Survivors are in 3rd person because they're just being observed by the Entity, and killers are in 1st person because they're being controlled by the Entity.
2 -
Everyone forgets and doesn't care about the second person using devs, like they were a third wheel they are cast aside

It'd be interesting to try. I'm not sure how fun killer would be in 3rd person especially blight, huntress nurse etc
Survivor in 1st could be fun if you could look over your shoulder in chase and look around to some extent while on gens, totems etc, stealth killers would be broken strong otherwise
2 -
the entity does not control the killers. you really shouldn't pull the lore card to say something that's wrong.
also we, the players, aren't in the entity pov.

Yes, we are. At least that was the reason given to me, and I haven't seen anything saying otherwise. But lore aside, gameplay wise this is a bad idea. As I said, 3rd person killer would be harder than 1st person. And 1st person survivor, while good in theory, destroys any chance survivors have of surviving a chase. You need to be able to use your camera to check for mindgames.

we aren't. The entity sees the entire trial at once and doesn't directly control anyone.
we play as the characters (but play in 3rd person as survivor).
given by who?
why would killer be harder? besides the ranged ones of course...
So survivors would play like killers do currently...oh no...
you are also taking this way too seriously, if you read the thread, people just wanna play this as a limited time event...

VR survivor would be pretty neat
0 -
Well it would give me a good reason to not play during it if it was an event.
0 -
But it would be funny as heck. Imagine turning around in 1st person only to see a Pig right behind you.
1 -
I don’t see the appeal personally. Would just make playing very annoying during it.

It would be game-breaking. It could be used for a separate game-mode, but not as the main game.

Having killers with 3rd Person is very OP. and having survivors 1st person is not a good experience enough for new players especially 3rd person for killers that cannot see their POV.

1st person survivor would be like a hard mode but 3rp person killer would break the game sinc3bthe game is balanced around the killer's limited view.
0 -
Sad :(
I think it would be really funny.

It would make killer harder because
A.) It makes every ranged killer nonviable
B.) It makes it harder to see exactly what the survivors are doing, as in things like items disappearing when you vault
C.) Every killer is used to 1st person
D.) All of the above
Take your pick.

I like the idea of first person survivor cameras. It would add an element of insecurity to the game, which would in my opinion make the game that much better. They would need to have a button to quickly stop what they're doing and look over their shoulder, though.
I don't think killers should be put into third person, since that would damage the overall vibe of playing killer. I would say just bring their FoV to an actually reasonable level so that they don't have so many blind spots right in front of them.
0 -
a) already said that in my previous post
b) because the player suddenly becomes blind? there's no reason for this to be a thing
c) so?
d) nah
0 -
You don't become blind, but your body will block your view of the survivor. It's like looking behind you at the killer as survivor, but harder too see, because your model is bigger than the survivor's. See how that would be an issue?
0 -
no... not at all. have you never played a game in 3rd person? (the answer is obviously "yes I have", don't actually answer it)
you control the camera, this is not an issue.
0 -
That's extra work, therefore making it harder. I rest my case.
0 -
you can see around corners. therefore making it way easier.
0 -
Nope. This wouldn't make it easier at all. This just makes it not as bad as it would be. It's still harder.
0 -
"It's not easier. it's less hard"
you really wanna argue semantics here?

I had an idea for a survivor perk that makes you play in first person for some kind of benefit.
First Person
You lose awareness of your surroundings and focus more on what is happening in front of you.
Third person camera is replaced with first person. Your Action speeds in Repairing, Healing, Sabotaging, Unhooking, Vaulting, Cleansing, Opening, and Unlocking are increased by 3/6/9%.
Yes, it's just Resilience with a different drawback.
0 -
Not really. But I completely believe that 3rd person killer would be much harder.
0 -
I would actually like this a lot. You could stack it with resilience, and as a reward for hindering yourself, be able to have an outstanding ability. This is one of the most balanced perk ideas I've seen in a while. Although I wouldn't call it first person. Maybe something to do with focus/concentration?

Regardless of opinion, the important thing is that we're having a discussion, right? Even though it was fueled by an episode of insomnia after a DBD binge on my end 😎
On that note, about making ranged killers unviable, I feel like that's untrue. That's like saying 3rd person shooters are unplayable. It'd be a change for sure, and hard to get used to, but not unplayable.
I mostly just believe that the killer FOV is way too limited for a 4v1 and buffing it slightly wouldn't break the game and it would free up a perk slot so shadowborn isn't an addiction anymore for people who got too used to it, you know what I mean?
Again, it's just an opinion, and as a killer main I'm obviously biased.
I'd play survivor if I had any concept of how to juke but it makes no sense to me, and I am so terrible in the chase that I just end up being a gen jockey all game and it makes it pretty un-fun.
I'm not saying teach me, but...someone teach me.

What if there was a button to look behind you? Like there is in some First Person games. That may actually make it easier to see Killer and in front of you swapping camera than it is right now possibly.

I still think this should be an option for custom games. Would be really cool.
1 -
Idk. Whenever I see that option I never use it because it disorients me.
