Jake as the first LGBTQ+ Survivor?
Credit to Pixel Bush for this idea, but he’s the only one of the original four not to get tome lore so far. Yes, it’s true that he isn’t as popular as the other three, and often gets shafted, but it’s been so long since they received their tome lore that it’s interesting.
We know they’ve been planning to have a LGBTQ+ character for a while, and Jake would be a great choice imo.

I don't see it with Jake to me he seems more of a loner if anything.
6 -
I think they're planning to do it with a new character, not an existing one.

Yes, which could tie in perfectly to a lore related to how queer people are isolated by society, similar to how Jane’s lore deals heavily with the racist stereotyping she deals with in her career.
4 -
They could do both though.

Well I think genuine loner as he wants to be left alone. Though I see what you mean. If the devs wanted to add an LGBTQ+ character it'd be easier and safer to avoid conflicting lore to create a new one.
1 -
I don’t think it’s conflicting lore at all, there’s nothing to believe Jake is straight or not in his lore. I don’t like the mindset that we assume straight unless told otherwise.

I could see it! I mean, my favorite DBD fanfic ships him and Dwight so I can already see it just fine, but I think it fits really naturally into his story. Jake despised his rich upper-crust family - he had an okay relationship with his mother but hated his father, and he was in constant conflict with both of them over his lifestyle. They had a very rigid expectation of the role he was expected to fill in and he didn't feel like he fit into it. Sexuality/identity slots super neatly into this picture, and it wouldn't even be forced or overtake the rest of his tale - it's just another piece of who he is that didn't fit the mold and that his parents couldn't empathize with.

TIL Loners don't have sexualities?
I could see them doing this with Jake, but I did expect them to make a new character for whatever they're planning. You wouldn't think it would take them a year to make a collaborative Tome for an existing character.

No :))

Just the way I view him as the survivor I play the most he just wants to be left alone.

I get the same vibes with Feng tbh, she seems like she just doesn't want anyone other than herself.

Asexual representation I don't see the problem.

In my opinion if they wanted to create the best possible character who's LGBTQ it'd be better to do it from the ground up
3 -
No because we've never established a character's sexuality. We have heterosexual relationships but no confirmed sexuality and I don't see why it's only an issue when it's the concept of homosexual relationships.
Don't underestimate the power of the gays. We can, and will, turn whatever we want into a gay icon.
3 -
Would be best to create a fresh new character who's LGBTQ for the best possible lore in my opinion

Show us the proof that Jake was ever meant to be seen as straight first
1 -
Why not have it be one of the existing characters? From things the devs have said we know that one of the older characters (ie. Nea and earlier) are lgbt+. I don't see why confirming which one is such a bad thing.
We can have both lgbt+ characters established with new characters and old ones, by the way.

Sorry to bump in but My brother is actually Asexual, or he might be gay. Idk he doesn't tell me things, plus it ain't my buisness
1 -
This is true. We turned Gordon ramsay into a top 10 gay icon.
2 -
Would make more sense as Dwight.

Let's not forget Millie Bobby Brown :p

Idk why my mind jumped to this but did you see that new photo of Elliot Paige? Dudes ######### ripped now after they got their top surgery done.
1 -
I have and I'm so proud of him!! He looks amazing

Well we've been through one of his tomes and have yet to get any confirmation on anything.

I dunno, I personally feel like it'd be more impactful to highlight an existing character in the tomes. Or better yet, some existing characters in the tomes. Being LGBTQ+ shouldn't be the core building block of a character when you cook someone up or you risk ending up with a caricature, pandering - it's way more real to show the fully fledged individual you already know is also gay/trans/queer/etc.
I'm not opposed to a new character, don't get me wrong, but I'd worry about them doing something kind of forced and then going "that's our LGBTQ+ character", and that's the end of it. I think there's plenty of room in the existing cast for some incidental representation, and that frankly it'd be weird if we had 51 characters already and every single one of them was cishet. (Granted, ones like Demo and PH can't exactly count, and they can't touch licensed properties period, but you get my point. There's 36 characters that BHVR has total control over on the lore, 37 if you count Ghostface.)

Na fam. That's the same ######### as don't ask don't tell. The community refuses to go back to treating our sexuality like that.
1 -
I find Jake much more believable as potentially being gay than Dwight.
1 -
No. I don't mind there being LGBTQ+ survivors but i think a new survivor should be made and existing ones should not change for it. I think Jake like others have said is a loner and by that i mean like he literally hates people. I dont look at him and go 'oh thats a good person to be LGBTQ'. I think if you must change a current survivors sexuality or whatever for the sake of it, then it should be Dwight.
0 -
This doesn’t make any sense to me? It wouldn’t be making a ‘change’ to Jake, as his sexuality was never stated. Most survivors do not have a set sexuality, and again, the mindset that unless otherwise stated, someone is straight is extreme gatekeeping for queer characters in this game.
Not sure how Dwight makes more sense than Jake. Dwight also has social issues, and Jake being in touch with nature isn’t really the same as hating people.
1 -
Doesn't make sense with his current lore. I don't want to put people in a box cause of their sexualities, but no character in DbD have their sexualities confirmed, and with Jake, he is more tied to nature. I am afraid, if there was going to be LGBTQ+ character, then their whole story isn't based on being LGBTQ+. As how Caleegi said, A new survivor should be made, but I don't see the point of Dwight being LGBTQ+. He is a loner, come at me Dwight x David shippers.

Actually I think they might have hinted at Dwight being gay.
the whole ‚being in the locker(closet)‘ stuff and then there was that cosmetic code ‚WARMDWIGHT‘
(Head On as a perk could also very well be a nice hint at Jane being LGBTQ+, coming out of the closet)

It make sense on Jake because someone who hates being with people, is less likely to care about what they find attractive.

You are overusing the term ‚digging to deep‘.
it was just my take on it. Nothing more.

Works for me as well.
(though I do think you can have a crush on people regardless of your sexuality and their gender… but I see that others might think differently on that)
0 -
I agree with you. Even straight people can have intimate feelings for people of the same gender.
1 -
The fact that he is more in touch with nature implies to most people that he does not like being around people and is not social. Because of this i doubt he cares about his sexuality. I also dont think just for the sake of people of the LGBTQ+ community wanting to have a gay character or whatever that we should just go EVERYONE IS GAY NOW. I think a new survivor should be made so it can be done properly and is not just done because you want it to, i want it to have an actual reason and purpose.

AsJakes lore says his father did not like the way he lived his life so he went to a forest long away from his father, he seems really lonely to me but if they change that at the lore they could completely make the lore all work together as he being a LGBTQ+ comunity member, but as the way the lore is right now I dont think it makes any sense, we never know.
0 -
If they're going to introduce a gay survivor, they're going to introduce a new character. Jake's lore is already provided, so just slapping on the sexual diversity label is going to make it seem forced and affected. To justify letting people know that your character is gay, their sexuality has to be an innate part of their lore, a defining characteristic that has more effect on their characterization than just "Hey guys, it's just normal me, but gay!"
We don't want a generic Netflix teenager, do we?
0 -
We know that at least one of the characters is actually LGBTQ+ and was created with that in mind from the beginning.
there is not better way with either introducing a new character or expanding an existing characters lore to include LGBTQ+. There will always be people calling either way the wrong way for various reasons.
the devs can tell their stories how they want to. If Jakes actually happens to be gay/apart of the LGBTQ+ community then because the devs created him that way. its not contradictory to his existing lore. We have now gotten multiple tome stories for older chars. They are expanding the lore and revealing more about the chars in pretty much all aspects. Jake won’t just get a lore entry that talks about him being alone in the nature.
0 -
introverted people can be just as sexually active and having romantical relationships like extroverted people..
we certainly won’t get a Tome story with jake only being alone.. there is more about Jake than just that, he is not a one-dimensional being.
0 -
‚He's introverted and that is the main basis around his character. I don't see how sexuality would clash with that but that's just me‘
sorry I may have misinterpreted what you said here. But great that you don’t want to elaborate on it if you don’t want to. I didn’t mean to attack you, just state my opinion.
