Mismatch of killer's ability and name/lore
Trickster and Blight are the most blatant examples of this. Not taking into account the power levels, both kits are generally okay. But how is pinballing around the map anything related to a killer named "The Blight"? How is throwing knives at people the power given to "The Trickster".
These two seemed pretty badly misnamed

"The Blight" refers to the serum he's pumped full of, turning him into a classic jekyll-and-hyde monster that sprints at people. It's also a reference to the Halloween events he came from.
Trickter performs knife tricks. His Mori is literally him performing knife tricks. He is a trickster by definition, because there is more than one definition of "trick".

I have a bit of a theory about the killers' names origins. I believe that the survivors actually named them. So for example: trapper (trap), the legion (because they're more than one)

how does the name "Nurse" imply a Killer that is teleporting through walls?
how does the name "Legion" imply a (single) Killer that is running around, stabbing people quickly?
how does the name "Hag" imply a Killer that is drawing magical triangles on the floor, being able to teleport to them and hex totems?
sometimes the Killers name / lore just doesnt fit their playstyle. the important thing is that the name fits the lore and vice versa.

Very few killers' nicknames actually allude to what their power actually is. On the top of my head, those would be Trapper, Plague, Nightmare, Deathslinger, Twins and maybe Doctor.

The Trickster is named so cause it was his nickname while he was a musician.
The Blight is named cause of his serums, as how MadLordJack said, he underwent a "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" type transformation after injecting himself with Compound 34.

Myers is also called "The Shape" in the Halloween movies.

I can't speak for mightybear, but I'm going to assume he knows that. That doesn't change the fact that the name "The Shape" has nothing to do with his power.
I'd say that the majority of killers don't have names that reflect their powers.

Almost none of the killers do. Most of their names are lore-based.

The trickster is named the trickster because the devs tricked you into believing this is a proper killer

interesting

His stage name was also you guessed it the trickster

I think it's fine if the names don't relate to the killers. Otherwise they'd all be named like: Trapper, Reverse Trapper, Teleport Trapper, etc. Adds some nice flavor.

It's weird when Trickster got called out for this despite his name being more fitting than most others. Like how is the young high school wendigo girl called The Hag? Since when do people think of Clowns... as fat dudes throwing bottles? The Drunk would fit better there for sure. Deathslinger feels made up. Legion is one kid with a tiny knife who gets headaches from running. If in regards to their powers... Nurse obviously fails at her job.

He's shaping you up...
I'll leave

Why does the name have to reflect their power?
0 -
A majority of killer names are reflected by lore and not their power.
And the pinball joke is stale at best. It is too hard to describe his ability to being akin to a crazed sprinting animal?
0 -
That works for everyone except Michael but thatโs also really cool so letโs go with it
0 -
It does actually fit his character, I'd describe his play style as a shade, stalking you from the fog

Shape, not shade. I believe the nickname was never mentioned in the movie itself, though it was in the credits iirc. Although, given the film's massive popularity, it's safe to assume at least one survivor knows of this nickname.

Oops! I knew it's shape but autocorrect automatically thought that the word "shape" doesn't exist, had to upgrade it :p
Also I assume that Laurie would know that, but I also assume that calling him by his name is the least of her concerns xd

Huntress and Wraith too

I understand where the names do come from, i guess it's more that i'm disappointed that someone called "The blight" just pinballs around the map. I get that he injects the serum but when i think of a killer named "The blight" i think more towards Nemesis vaccine mechanic

My headcanon is similar to that, i think it's the entity who actually name them, even though the survivors never saw them they are able to recognize them instantly, like as if the entity slipped their names inside of their heads.
0 -
The entity is considered to be like an organism that the only thing it wants is to satisfy it's hunger, so I doubt that the entity would care about naming them. It cares about them getting their job done

You're right I just like the headcanon bc I think it's a cooler explanation :)

Imagine the entity nicknaming the survivors as well. It'd be hilarious ๐

Leon would be The twink
