Survivors need their own stats
Survivors are just skins... plane and simple. They have their starting perks and that's it. I don't see them having a unique power or ability that's just for them.... But if they had slightly different speed, weight, stamina, endurance, and intelligence..... for example Dwight would have better stats in intelligence and it would help with repair speed or unlocking speed or something. Yes yes I know that their perks somewhat reflect that but again these perks aren't unique to them once they become unlocked for other survivors...
Yes I know that someone would be worried about people choosing one stat over the other and than a character doesn't get picked. I am talking about very minor stats. Like weight would factor into the difficulty of a character being carried to a hook. And maybe a character who is already on the heavier side would pair well with Boil over. And maybe all the heavier stat does is add a second of time to wiggle you know?
I don't know just something that'll make the survivors more than just skins you know?

I like this idea! More variety and uniqueness to survivors.

I'd like more uniqueness to survivors. The characters in this game are the sole reason why I continue to play.
4 -
Ya that's pretty much what I am saying with this. It would be nice but who knows... I mean maybe BHVR will?! *shrug*
And @OtakaChan thanks! :D

Anytime hun. Survivors are as you said skins. We would see more variety in the game besides megheads, neas, and claudettes all day lol. If not its all the new characters every chapter release.
1 -
I've been wanting this for years. Idc how they'd do it, maybe each survivor has a new built in perk that only they have access to. Or maybe they go the f13 route and make every survivor have a completely different playstyle.
I want unique survivors so bad.

That do that Ash Williams ability should be where all the other survivors are dead or escaped a chest well spawn on the map glowing opinion it up and he well pull out his boom stick and chainsaw. The killer well have a health bar aper on top screen just like ash. Ash well have a cool down time when shooting or swing chansall which one goes down first gets mori.

That's what I thought when I started playing the game, there is no point in choosing meg over dwight if they are gonna end up with the same perks, they should have stats to spice things up, dwith can do something like repair faster and meg can vault windows faster than others, but something like this will probably never be implemented.
1 -
Ya I mean it wouldn't be too hard to do in all honesty. Might take some fine tuning but it'd be great. Like Meg would be lighter, so easier to carry her. But slower at dropping pallets. Stuff like that.
1 -
Nah honestly I like it the way we have it now. Let's face it there would be objectively best and worst survivors and I wouldn't want that. I love playing a lot of different survivors and have my mains and it would be terrible if my main suddenly became bad and it would give very little incentive to actually play other survivors if they were objectively worse than others.
Think not enough people play as Adam, Jeff, and Jane? Imagine if their stats were bad.
4 -
That is. I think all survivors have to get one unique perk. You can use this perk only on this survivor. That will not break balance but that will make survivors different than each other.
2 -
You would see way less variety if this were true.
You see Neas, Megs, and Claudettes because they're survivors everyone has by default. Character stats tell everyone that to play as effectively as possible, they have to pick a certain character. It's now part of the minmaxing meta the same way perks are. Every looper now wants to play Meg because she's objectively the best at it, and maybe you can play Nea or Tapp or Leon too and still do well, but if you like Adam or Ace or Yun-Jin, you're SOL because they all have penalties to those stats. If you find an Ash and a Jane working on a gen, you as the killer should always go after the Jane because she's slower and takes less time to catch, or because Jane will complete the gen faster than Ash can. And inevitably you'd see the majority of survivors get shafted because they don't excel at anything or the thing they excel at isn't as important as the thing other survivor excels at. Maybe Jake's best stat is sabotaging and sneaking, so he sabos faster and creates shorter-lived scratch marks, but this just isn't optimal enough compared to Dwight's faster gen speeds, or Claudette's equal stealth and more widely useful healing buff instead of sabotage. And maybe Dwight isn't even viable because his gen speed repair comes with a movement speed penalty, but Felix's gen speed repair comes with a less impactful luck penalty. Maybe Kate's best stat is a shortened wiggle timer, but that's too situational to be effective on its own, and she's bad at gens which are very important, so why would you ever pick her anymore?
Even if it makes more sense and adds more flavor otherwise, I prefer everyone being the same. It lets people pick the characters they like instead of the character ends up being the best possible choice for their playstyle.
6 -
I like the idea, but it would need to be implemented extremely carefully. They'd need to be very minor, otherwise you'd end up with a single meta character. Maybe something like this;
Claudette heals others 1% faster.
Dwight boosts others bp by 1%.
Stuff like this might work.
2 -
Not necessarily. F13 had alot of variety in who people played as. Granted there were always some who were more popular than others.
1 -
I rather survivors just be skins. otherwise we will literally only see the same 3 or 4 every match
3 -
As people have already said, this would not work. Either the passive abilities are useless, or they are somewhat useful and everybody plays the same few "meta" survivors. Trust me, this is not something you want.
4 -
I’m don’t like this idea tbh
everyone will end up using the same character (better stats)
that is what happens in F13
2 -
Survivors do have their own stats, its called Breathing, Crys of Pain and Height.
Some survivors might pick their survivors strictly by appearance but its common knowledge that we have survivors who offer more immersed gameplay than others.

Really? I didn't play it myself, but I binged a lot of streams for it, and it seemed like in all the games I watched, everyone who wanted to run Jason wanted to be Vanessa or Tiffany, everyone who wanted to protect teammates and harass Jason wanted to be Buggzy, and repair players would never pick Mitch or Eric when Deborah was an option that was significantly better at hiding if her bodyguards kicked it early.
Friday the 13th also had different gameplay that kind of allowed characters to be less interchangeable, since there were more players who could die faster, much larger maps, more incentive to group up, and several simultaneous ways to escape. But I didn't see a lot of variety, and several counsellors fell into the trap of rarely being picked because they weren't good at anything significant or weren't significantly good at anything. Wouldn't be a game I'd use as an example of stats encouraging diversity.

It all depends on what you valued. Straight running power Vanessa and Tiff were best. Chad and Jenny were better for a run and fight strategy. Repair wise Deb could do it fastest, but Mitch and A.J. were great options for their high composure and better stamina. Fox and Adam were more your Jack of all trade types. Honestly they all had a role to fill depending on what you valued most.

It would have to be very simple, and very minor. Something like:
Agility: 1/2/3% Vaulting, Opening and Unlocking Speed Bonus
Intelligence: 1/2/3% Repair, Sabotage and Cleansing Speed Bonus
Vitality: 1/2/3% Healing Speed Bonus (to self, others, or when being healed by others)
Strength: 1/2/3% Unhooking and Wiggle Speed Bonus
Then each survivors has between 0 and 3 in each of the four stats, up to a total of 6.
For example, Claudette could have 1 Agility, 2 Intelligence, 3 Vitality and 0 Weight.
At max that is a small section of a Tier I Resilience, with Strength having a smidge of Boil Over in there too.

I don't know if anyone is familiar with the hex perk slot idea that was circulating months ago. The idea of killers having a 5th perks slot that was only for hex perks. I thought about a survivor version of that, that slot could be an "ability" slot. Dwight's default ability could be good getting an added 10% repair speed. In order to balance it out if another survivor were to equip this ability then the ability's percentage would decrease a little. If all four survivors were running it then you would get maybe a 3-4% speed increase instead of the full 10%.
Obviously if all four survivors had 10% then all 5 gens would be done in 2 mins. Also if something like this was added to the game then "prove thyself" would need to be nerfed a bit to balance things out.
Claudette could have an ability for healing, Meg could decrease exhaust cooldown, you get the idea. The percentages shouldn't pass 10% for obvious reasons.

Yes I agree and I once post a topic about it. Like a Unique passive perk to each surv.
This passive could level up when you reach lv 20/40/50 in the web.
Exemple: Dwight gives 1/2/3% action speed to his allies in a radius of 6 meters (except gen repairing)
Nea move speed while crouching is 2/4/5% faster
Claudette has healing speed increased by 2/4/6%
Meg runs 1/2/3% faster when the killer is not looking at her (same mechanic of spine chill but reversed)
Feng vaults 0.5/1/1.5% faster
Jake's voice/sounds are 15/30/40% quieter (still not sure for this one)
Quentin reduces status effects cooldown of him and his mates by 3/6/9% while in 8 meters radius
ETC... these are my ideas, note that these passive buffs must be slight and minor since they could be very overwhelming and OP combined with some perks.
This is only to give survivors a unique style of gameplay

The amount of full Vanessa lobbies I ran into were insane..but yeah I was surprised at the representation in that game. Even Sheldon and Kenny, who imo are the most lackluster were still relatively common.
0 -
Oh yeah. Lol there were definitely the 7 Vanessa lobbies. I always felt bad for that Jason. Fortunately most of those Vanessa's were potatoes.

Not everyone is playing the meta nurse or spirit, so it could work with survivors as well.
1 -
Not gonna lie that'd be cool
0 -
Imagine if they were great stats though. I mean your main character is just a skin at the end of the day.
0 -
I mean if they did it in a way that would be balanced yes but I do get what you're saying.
0 -
F13 was kind of where I was getting the ideas from. But ya you saw a variety there too.
0 -
If that's the case than we already have a little bit of that and people are already choosing characters because of that right? So in theory stats might work.
0 -
If this would be implemented then they definitely need to reduce the grind.
I am maxing all killers, but just a single survivor, because survivors are all the same. This proposal would change this however, and survivors would become different.
2 -
That'd be cool
1 -
Stats worked for f13 but probably not for dbd. This is why I thought a passive you can equip like a perk would probably be the way to go. If Meg had increased speed as a passive then everyone would just pick Meg.
0 -
I did mention an endurance stat. Perhaps meg has great speed but would go down in one hit than since she'd lack endurance.

I don't know overall the fact all survivors are just skins just kind of rubs me wrong for some reason. And it seems half the people here like the idea and the other half don't like it. But yes it'd potentially greatly change the gameplay. The upside is it's nice to basically pick the skin you want and be the same as everyone else so that is a plus. Because I would hate to play a character who I didn't like esthetic wise but stat wise I liked them.
0 -
Don't look at it as everyone is just a skin. You can pick your own perks and make them good at whatever you want them to be good at. I think that's one of the factors that draws players to this game. In f13 those counselors have set stats so if you prefer a stealth playstyle then you can only play as certain counselors. In dbd you build your survivor no matter who it is to that preferred playstyle.
2 -
I really wish they did that for ash.
But cant wheat to play the new evil dead game its going to be so cool.🥰
1 -
What if instead of stats, it was a power, like…
Dead Hard would be David’s power
Sprint Burst would be Meg’s power
etc… Then they would have perks, but let’s just say that each survivor should have an exclusive exhaustion perk that only they can use.
1 -
I actually agree with this.
1 -
hmm that makes sense actually.
