prove thyself needs a massive nerf

until the devs decide to either increase gen times or give the killers a perk that makes survivors die faster on hook for every survivor alive, prove thyself is just too strong its entirely unfair that a survivor can pop a gen in 30 seconds (20 with the right set up) just because of stacking and prove theyself. especially when survivors have so many resources to burn through that even someone like otz proved that a good survivor can run a killer for 2-3 minutes solo easily before going down and that's a killer on otzdarvas level. more than often one chase equals a gen done , if you manage to get that hook thats 1/12 hooks you need, meaning its most likely already a loss since almost no perks slow progression while you are actually chasing a survivor. ruin used to got nerfed now it barely helps most killers. undying helped ruin got nerfed, thanataphobia helped got nerfed, dying light barely helps but when all 5 gens can potentially pop in 3 chases due to gen perks and tool boxes what good is it ? something severely needs to be done. its getting absolutely ridiculous how unbalanced the game is tired of having to break 25 pallets a match when every second counts as killer but literally every killer action slows you. imagine if survivors had a cool down for working gens, as in if you let go of a gen you cant touch it for 5 seconds. there would be riots yet every action slows killer , heck now you have to worry about kicking gens because of blast mine , you do your objective and get stunned for what 3 or 4 seconds without even braking the gen so you have to completely waste another 2 or 3 seconds to re kick the gen. doesnt sound that bad except gens pop in 30 seconds , so that perk ate a good percent of that time plus walking to check gens then pop. i literally have a video where all i had time to do is walk to a gen after the start of the game , my mistake i broke 1 wall, and 2 gens were done. not even a swf , no brand new parts, just 4 solo ques one having prove thyself .... gg get gud killer patrol better from waking over to this gen which was the first one you checked. its just freaking stupid i play survivor far more often than killer now because its basically the unstressful easy mode of the game. "But OP survivors have to deal with tunneling and camping killers" yes true but 1. the game promotes that style of behavior from killers because gen speeds makes it feel useless to do anything else you are making your own poison. 2. on hook you have 2. straight minutes before you die stacking a gen lets you finish it in like 30 seconds, that's 4 or 5 gens for 1 camped survivor being too altruistic is what makes it work. anyway enough of my rant, just so tired of feeling so stressed as killer. i get 4ks and mercilesses but damn do you have to sweat to stand a chance if the survivors are good, yet survivors get to make multiple mistakes and be fine.

If you're running into a lot of people using prove thyself and getting value.... use discordance?

Nah it just needs a tiny one

prove thyself is a decent perk but its main flaw is that it forces survivors to stack up meaning when you disrupt the gen more survivors are pressured

however the main flaw I see with prove thyselfs power level is that it works with toolboxes which is just too much, so id much rather see the change if any that makes prove thyself inactive if you are using a toolbox (still gives other survivors the speedboost or you the speedboost if the other survivor is using a toolbox but they don't get the effects of the perk)

that works until you have to commit to a chase, and if you are constantly going back every time they hop on a new gen you wont down anyone if they are good

I thought that the worst case scenario for killers was 4 navy seals survivors doing generators on both sides of the map within 10 seconds of the game. You literally describe the opposite thing.

And if this is still is an issue for you, just equip Discordance/LethalPersuer and get the best start ever in this grouped-survivor scenario ...

the problem with that is other survivors will just use tool boxes and the person with prove thyself gets the bonus. also they may all be on the same gen but you can only chase one of them at the time the other two will just double back hop on and pop in a matter a seconds. trust me , my friends and i do it to killers all the time even with out prove thyself or tool boxes its ridiculously easy

my best advice is to do hit and runs, injure two people with discordance, dedicate to the weakest person within the group to get that first hook in, then slowly work up momentum

again , as stated, you can only ever chase 1 survivor if the 1 survivor is good even slightly because of the multiple resources they have now , the others will stack while you are in chase , discordance goes off . then you are left with 2 choices commit and lose a gen or go back to the gen chase them off and start chase which starts the scenerio over . see the problem ? if you have insta downs great it will work on other killers it wont.

unfortunately against good players this barely works , i play at high rank with high rank survivors constantly , they just end up recovering and it just wastes time for little to no gain. thats if you even get a hit on them before they try to run you through every pallet on loan from home depot

  • traviszenryo
    traviszenryo Member Posts: 53

oh yes i forgot that discordance stops gens from being worked on while in chase, oh wait it doesnt , so all you will do is abandon chases repeatedly to do nothing to the gens and have people just hop on a new one or double back while you are in chase, or commit to chase and lose the gen for 1/12 downs you need. please learn the game and know what your are talking about before trying to be condescending.

no its just unfortunately how high rank is survivors have too much to work with and killers have little to nothing to slow survivor progress will in chase, thats what old ruin used to do but survivors complained that skill checks were too hard and got it nerfed. now everything is going to skill checks including struggle and wiggling , must not be that dang hard lol

You're not describing Prove Thyself though? You're just describing Survivors playing the game in general.

All Prove Thyself does is make teaming up on gens less inefficient for Survivors but it's still inefficient and carries risks. I'm far more afraid of 3 Survivors split on gens while I'm chasing someone than 3 Survivors on the same gen using Prove Thyself.

Instead of running Discordance I would recommend Corrupt Intervention for this kind of thing. It's very good at giving you a breather in the first couple of minutes and delays the Super Gen Repair Squad just long enough for you to get a hook and start getting pressure before they get too much of a headstart. From there, it's your job to leverage that pressure into getting more downs and keeping things going.

Oh, and I'd like to call out "You can only chase 1 survivor" briefly. Yes, you can only chase 1 Survivor at a time, but there's no limits on how much you can pressure them.

This isn't just in the obvious form of being on the hook, going for the save, being downed or healing, this can also come in the form of proxy chasing. Your main target is someone else but the other Survivors still can't afford to ignore you and will have to scatter to an extent. If you chase two Survivors off a gen, consider briefly looking back at where the other guy went and if they greedily started working on the gen again, go straight for them and get the punish, for example.

I use it all the time and it is pretty strong. It does need a slight nerf.

prove thyself gives you a stackable 15% increase to gen repair speed , you can literally pop a gen in 30 seconds , ive actually used it to pop a gen in 20. i want you to go get into a chase and hook a survivor and see how long it takes you from start to finish. im also a red rank killer/survivor i know how to do chases lol at high rank survivors will stack and pop a gen while you are in chase , if you leave a chase they wait till you start a new one. its how you pressure the killer and is super easy to do

  • NeonFlowerPower
    NeonFlowerPower Member Posts: 135

That 15% only negates the penalty received when two or more survivors work on a generator together. Its a bad perk that survivors only use for more blood points considering how little points doing gens actually rewards you. Far more efficient to work on gens separately as opposed to together. Besides, you can literally stack 4 gen slowdown perks. Not sure why it isn't ok for survivors to have one Gen perk.

I was going to make a thread but i see there is already one

Nowadays there isn't a match at high rank that doesn't have a provr thyself in it. Its. Stupidly. Strong.

Let me explain, dear survivor mains, why it is strong.

The meta perks for killers (and by meta i mean mandatory if you dont want to lose in 3 minutes) is to run gen control perks. Yes, meta builds for almost every killers cointain at least 3 perks entirely dedicated to control gens. Why ? Because : Gens. Go. To. Fast.

I've seen many people in my games calling me out for runnung ruin undying corrupt pop etc. And people starts now to run prove thyself consistently to compensate for this.

Gens go to fast > killer uses gen control perks > survivor use gen speed strategies

It is not fun for either side to pop gens and escape with 3 hooks. But yet survivor mains still taunt killers.

Dont be surprised if you got tunneled out. Nowadays its the only way to win a match as a killer.

I'm a survivor main, and I agree. The value this perk gives any team - even solos - is incredible. And you only need one instance of it. Depending on the map and killer, it can grant killers zero opportunity to even try to defend a gen. Even with Ruin, Pop, or Discordance. Since the DS nerf, PT has been my go to perk so that if killers camp and tunnel, the game is over in around seven minutes.

Killer main and no, it's fine.

    1. Otz proved nothing. It was an artificial scenario and neither side used perks/powers. Yeah, if survivors play super safe, they'll prolong the chase. That's why you need to give up some chases. It only proved why tunnel visioning 1 survivor is a terrible idea.

    2. If there are 2 people on a gen, it saves 7 seconds. It doesn't start getting noticeable until 3-4 survivors are on a single gen, and at that point, they're taking a huge risk since a killer can interrupt and pressure 3-4 survivors at once.

    3. Discordance is a good perk. Do try it.

I'm sorry, but it seems like you're needing to improve on your time management but are instead choosing to blame the game instead of improving.

It should be a reverse Leader, no gen speed increasing:

For each Survivor within 8 metres of you, Increase your Action speed for Healing, Sabotaging, Unhooking, Cleansing, Opening, and Unlocking actions by 4/6/8 %.

Even though NeonFlowerPower pointed it out, I feel like this needs emphasizing.

Survivors working together on a generator suffer a 15% efficiency penalty.

All Prove Thy Self does is negate that penalty. It is not a buff in it's own right.

3 survivors working on individual gens and 3 survivors all working the same gen with PTS, are exactly as efficient as each other. Except it's much easier to disrupt 3 survivors working on one gen, then be in 3 separate places at once.

If you run Discordance, and chase those survivors off that gen, even if it's only for about 20 seconds before someone gets back on it, you've just disrupted 3 survivors for 20 seconds, that's 60 seconds worth of repair progress halted.

I think you just need to take the loss and de-rank so you go against survivors that are more your skill level.

Because Prove Thy is literally the last perk to complain about. You just need to get gud

I do think PTS can be REALLY stupid at times. Like yesterday I was playing Myers with lethal pursuer. 4 of them spawn near 1 gen. No toolboxes in the lobby. And EVEN THOUGH I IMMEDIATELY walked DIRECTLY to the gen. My tinkerer popped and I assume they were at AROUND 85-90 percent by the time I got there to interrupt. I find that kinda dumb.

Just chase them off of a generator, then multiple survivors will be pressured. The only reason why survivors were running Otzdarva for so long is because

    1) The survivors were extremely high skilled (such as cope)

    2) Otzdarva had no killer power and no perks

    3) The survivors were on a strong survivor sided map, and threw down every pallet on the map

    4) The Survivor didn't have to worry about running the killer onto their teammates that were repairing generators
