A Secondary Objective for Survivors

Ok, we've all probably watched horror movies, if you played this game. And since Killers have been wanting a secondary objective for survivors, what would make sense in the framework of horror movies? Well, I would say the secondary objective for survivors should be the ability to kill the killer. I mean honestly, it's been a horror movie troupe since the beginning of horror movies, the survivors finally have had enough and turn on the killer and end his reign of torment.

  • Laura Strobe kills Michael Myers in Halloween
  • Nancy Wheeler kills Freddy Krueger in Nightmare on Elm St
  • Lefty Enright kills Leatherface in Texas Chainsaw Massacre II
  • And so on and so forth...

I think survivors getting tunneled and camped as much as they do now-days, need the ability to turn the tables.

This does nothing but really add salt to the wound to a killer who lost.

It also makes no sense lore-wise. The Entity punishes the Killer for losing, not the Survivor.

This isn't a valid reason. ######### things exist in every multiplayer game.

Neither Laurie nor Loomis killed Michael, he got up and walked away when they werent looking.

Nancy Thompson didnt kill Freddy, she just sent him back to the dreamworld.

The devs have stated in the past that they dont like the idea of survivors being able to kill the killer, as thats his role.

As for what should be done imo:

Each map should have 5 regions, each region shoukd have a switch that when activated allows the gens in that region to be worked on. Each region should contain at least 1 gen (most probably 2, never 3), 2 pallets ALWAYS and 1 totem. Map size should be standardized so all outdoor maps are the size of badham and generators are always in tge same place.

Do all that and we can talk about mechanics that hard counter camping and tunneling, like base ds.

Part of the issue is everything is connected. If you just do 1 thing it impacts everything else.

But I thought killers want survivors to be scared again and not to be a mob with pitchforks, even though it's what they already are somehow, but we shouldn't make it worse.

.... it's impossible to kill a few of these killers. Pyramid Head and Nemesis for example.

Nemesis needed it's head to vaporized on a cellular level (remake) or with ridiculous amounts of fire power (original) both of those are actually impossible

And Pyramid from what I remember is completely improbable of dying.

Yeah, that’s an alternative objective kinda instead of escaping through gates.

people are mostly asking for additional secondary objectives to elongate the matches such as having to find parts/fuel before being able to start work on gens.

I would make the relationship between Obsession and Killer like this

    After 5 Gen done:

    • Killer can Mori Obsession (not instant down though).
    • Obsession stuns Killer increased from 3 to 5sec.

After 5 totems are done the killer becomes vulnerable. If the killer is stunned, a survivor can use the action key to knock the killer down. The third time this happens, the survivors can then kill the downed killer.

No. Killers need to be invincible beasts that you fear. That is the whole aspect of horror here: That you are unable to do anything other than running.

Yes, survivors need a secondary objective. True. But it should be an alternate way to escape or something like that and not to kill the Killer or to give them other boni.

lol you never learned from Friday 13th Game. Those game ended because survivor can bully and killing the killer together as a team. Instead from a horror game become a bullying game.

First of all, there already is a secondary objective in the game: totems.

Leaving that aside, the main issue with attempting to make matches last longer (and for the record, I'm firmly in the camp of longer matches being more enjoyable), is that the longer a match is, the more it favors the Killer. Survivors gain no advantage to a longer match. The longer a match goes, the more advantage the Killer gains - more chances to hook and sacrifice. Which is why there even is such a thing as gen-rushing: because the win condition for survivors is escaping, so especially in red ranks, the only focus is on getting the gens done as quickly as possible in order to get out.

So if even more objectives are added in for survivors, then there would have to be a balance - some advantage survivors gained besides simply being able to open the gate and escape. Whether that's stuns lasting a lot longer, or the ability to temporarily trap the Killer somewhere, etc. SOMEthing would have to offer survivors some advantage to balance out the advantage the Killer gains for matches going longer.

uhm. That’s exactly why many people are asking for secondary survivor objectives: the game is actually survivor sided (when looking at high skill gameplay and not your average casual soloQ survivor squad) and gens seem to go so quickly.

and while totems are a secondary objective they are not mandatory.

i also think that it wouldn’t really be a good idea to just make matches longer as that would destroy the experience of casual survivors. Personally I have high hopes about that new game mechanic that started as an early game collapse idea. That and maybe the key/Mori base game rework.

When looking at high levels of play, you are only talking about less than 5% of the entire DBD population. When you balance a game, you have to balance for low levels of play, mid levels of play and high levels of play. It would be absolutely foolish to balance all levels of play to a particular level of play, especially one that contains so few players. And if you look at low levels of play and mid levels of play, which affect 95% of the population, the game is Killer sided not Survivor sided.

i never said it should be balanced around the top 5 % though.

actually I said I highly anticipate the new game mechanics ( without favoring one side). Both sides need adjustments, there is not one side solely in need of buffs while the other needs to be nerfed.

I do think that the game is actually pretty balanced right now, but that it favors unfair/unfun gameplay on both sides and matchmaking is a complete mess right now.

And 95% of matches are also clearly not entirely killer sided matches.
