I am severely dissatisfied with MMR
I usually never do this. In my 2 and a half years of playing I have never felt the need to rant on the forums, no matter how bad the state of the game was. However, with the current state of the game being as it is, I feel like I need to express myself more clearly in order to be heard.
As you are probably all aware, MMR has been enabled as of yesterday. This has changed my experience with the game fundamentally for some reason. The first game was stupidly unbalanced in the survivor's favor (I was playing survivor as well). Demo with 2 perks and like 150 hours in the game against people with multiple thousands of hours.
This changed drastically as soon as I won that game. Next game was a ruin undying tinkerer blight with arguably the strongest addons for blight. I lost. You'd expext the next game to be atleast somewhat balanced then, wouldn't you?. Well no, it was back to stomping low rank killers. Followed again by being stomped by killer's with 4 times my playtime. In conclusion, MMR has managed to be unbalanced in 2 ways at the same time. Killer games were a drastically different story however. I had to sweat my ass off to barely get one or 2 kills everygame, and if i wasnt binging 3 gen regression perks the game was almost a guarenteed loss.
The Pinhead patch has also been one of the worst patches for me perfomance-wise. It is almost an insult at this point to keep the DC penalty active when there's a known issue that literally causes games to crash when playing as or against the new killer.
But back to MMR: I feel like all I have heard about the System before it was implemented was genuine concern and worries about it ruining the game. For me, that's exactly what happened so I am really wondering where all that PTB (and general) feedback went. But maybe, just maybe, my experience has been an exception. Maybe everyone else has been having a great time and I was just unlucky. I'd love to hear about other player's experience, and I am open to revise my statements if my experience get's better in the future. However, I doubt it'll get much better considering multiple months of collected data went into this release.
Edit: I want to add something and maybe correct some stuff. I don't hate the devs, I never have and have always been supportive of most of their changes however bad they may have looked at first glance (e.g the locomotion animation changes, desync issues, stun bugs..., the list goes on). This was barely 2 dozens of games of experience, obviously the sample size is small and the expierence might get better with time. However, and this is one of my biggest problem with both BHVR as a company and this particular scenario, it feels awful seeing a lot of content creators and people in general give feedback and criticism for the system and then receiving this arguably horrid result. They put in a year of developing efforts into this system now (which nobody asked for btw) and have continued to almost fully ignore any feedback regarding the topic. I remember back when this was announced, the first thing Scott Jund (who I will admit is a very critical person when it comes to BHVR) said was "Oh no this is gonna make my games super boring" . Next video was him suggesting they just rework the emblem system instead or rewind back to the old BP=Pipping system. Few days back when they announced this system being added with the pinhead patch, every youtuber made videos expressing their concern, worries and problems with this system. Seeing a result this dissappointing makes it feel like the people who actually play this game don't get a say on how the game should work. I just wish there was more transparency and direct community interaction and acknowledgment of feedback, instead of what feels like them just pushing this system through no matter the cost. I, for my part, was fully satisfied with the way the old ranking system worked, but I would have been open to alternatives as well, like the BP=Pip system Scott suggested. This change, at least to me, seems a lot more drastic than what I expected/hoped for and it feels like this game is changing into a more competitive-oriented sweat fest rather than the fun goofy bring-no-perks-but-shadowborn game it used to be. But, I want to point out again, that even though this post comes off as quite negative (because it is) I am still a huge fan of the game and it's lovely community and dev team, and I am more than willing to change my mind in case my experiences change drastically. I have also read all responses so far and I have seen that while I was not the only one who's experience was not very nice, there were also a lot of people having better, more balanced matches than before.

Nobody has played enough games to objectively praise or criticize the system as of right now.

It’s only been a day. Come back in a month and express your dissatisfaction then.

We've expressing the same dissatisfaction on every test since 2020...

I can't get easy matches anymore it's time to come to the forums and seek attention 😂

Played like 20 trials now as a survivor. More you play more it's accurate. I had terrible trials for the first ten (50 hours survivor, strong killer against a mix bagged of potatoes or the contrary etc.... Now i have good killers and somewhat "good" survivors.
I feel like i still do not playing at my skill level but i see improvements.

Weren't there like 3 months of testing and collecting data to prevent this exact same thing? I feel like I should at least be able to feel the difference this collected data makes instead of still having to play 10s or even 100s of games to get a rating that's accurate

bro how are you literally so smart. You've seen through my facade of lies and found my true motivation in seconds.
Ok now without kidding. Have you read this post? Literally the second or third paragraph is my conplaining how my matches were too easy for like half my games as a survivor
I have never had "easy" matches, with or without MMR . The only difference is now I'll have hard matches where everyone (including me) is sweating their ass off when I'm playing killer in contrast to making matches harder by playing perkless or with other self-imposed challenges (which is what I could do before MMR was a thing) and weird games with (former) brown rank survivors and killers with like 100h in the game

I understand what you're getting at, I really do. However, I'd like to bring up the point that this system has been in development for like a year now and we have had multiple periods of testing and with that, opportunities for feedback, which, as far as I know, most big content creators and parts of the community used to give said feedback. With that, I was hoping for a system that would at least remotely work after they've been collecting data for months and tested it multiple times

If i bite into a piece of candy and its sour instead of sweet, im not gonna wait for it to get sweet before i voice my dissatisfaction. First impressions are important, even if MMR does end up being decent its launch will have left a lot of people with a bad taste in their mouth. BHVR should have launched a functional system right out the gate.

Honestly I've observed comments re: SBMM became more positive, or at least mixed vs purely negative, with each successive test. I noted it due to positivity being unusual in these parts.
I don't think the analogy works, but I do get your point. We all knew going in there'd be initial hiccups, so things not going well right of the bat is expected.
That said, I still remember he very first SBMM test that did exactly the opposite of what it was supposed to do, so I've always been wary of this as a result.
1 -
Especially considering they tested it, tinkered with it and developed it for a literal year. One would expect it to be atleast semi-functional after all this trial and error
1 -
There will always be some positivity, they had to get something better after each test right? You can't work on it for so long and not achieve some sort of result that is satisfying. However we've only had 1 satisfying test, the last one and they've jumped directly to implement that into the game. It's basicly 3 Noes and 1 Yes but somehow the system is aproved for live game...
1 -
I remember the one before last also being positive. Hence "progressively". Each one did get better.

I understand, but how many games have you played?
The SBMM it's only been out for a day give it time to work things out keep playing, and the matches should feel more balanced.

Over the course of the last 12h I have played like 20 or so games. And I agree, there is a possibility the system will magically improve soon. However, consider this: BHVR has been collecting both feedback from the community and data on your perfomance in each match for different periods, overall it's like 3 months, over the course of the last year. (at least they said so in their dev post a few weeks ago before the weekend test of MMR). How many games would I have to play for the assessment to be accurate, if literally 3 months of data can not make the system work as intended? I sure hope you're right tho, I really like playing this game so it would be sad to see it in such a state
1 -
That is exactly one of my biggest problems. The first test went absolutely horrible, so i was hoping for atleast something that's somewhat toleratable after 1 year of development. Maybe my expectations were too high, but I don't think it was too much to assume that the system would at least work decent after all the work and testing they've done

MMR is working just fine. Dadges don't mean anything anymore because it'll just be reset everyone to same badge every month on the 13th and thus eventually everyone will reach iri 1 with enough time played since you can't depip anymore. MMR works in this game just like how it work in every game, just need to give it a few games to actually pair you with/against people of a similar skill level. You will eventually reach your skill set placement, i've been playing freddy nonstop and have been getting 3-4ks every game and am finally at a point where i'm getting good 4 stack SWFs.

Yeah I didn't play that much last night I have more time tonight, but I noticed a little difference in the matches I played.
The couple killer games I played it didn't feel like I was going against bad players they seemed to have a brain. usually I feel bad for stomping them and either let one of them live or let them all go.
And in my survivor matches it didn't feel like I was left to do everything by myself gens were getting done I notice totems being broken and there were safe rescues being made. Even the killers seemed to be more relaxed and chilled.

It's been collecting data from a flawed rank based matchmaking system. Many people have inflated MMR due to the previous poor matchmaking.
It's going to take a while for everyone to get settled where they are and even for people who are settled in the right place they are going to have to deal with other people who have mismatched mmr scores.
0 -
Well if you practiced enough for red ranks to be easy matches and they get removed that does seem like a valid point for complaint
0 -
I guess, but it wasn't hard to get to red ranks especially with the safety pip helping.
0 -
yea but it was hard to get skilled enough so that "all" red rank matches were easy
1 -
That is honestly a pretty amazing argument. The data they've been collecting is flawed in a way, because the old matchmaking was so #########. That does change some things. But at the same time it makes me wonder, why collect the data in the first place then? If a random person on the forums can tell you it's utterly flawed and therefore almost useless, I am pretty sure the Devs could tell too,so why would you still base an MMR system around your collected data when that data has zero representative value?
0 -
That's nice to hear that your experience was better. At least some positive credit to give to this system. Well, guess some things gotta change eventually and I shouldn't stand in the way of progress if it means a more engaging experience for the majority of the community

New Ranks were literally translated 1:1 from the old months yesterday, meaning a person who was silver during MMR was green ranks during the old ranking system. So, in a way, it still tells me what rank they were before they couldnt' depip anymore. If anything, your argument reinforces my point of me being matched with lower skill players, because considering it was easier for them to rank up now they probably were a bit lower in actuality. Also, as i said, I checked all the available information on playtime, which is at least somewhat representative of your skill (to an extent) and it lead me to the same result
0 -
They collected data using the old match-making system which was seriously flawed. So we are running on very flawed data right now until it is filtered out with the new SBMMR data that started flowing in yesterday.

+1 having a bad time with SBMM. As survivor I'm getting matched with teammates at around my skill but against killers well below my skill. Every match the killer gets curb stomped and I'm getting bored waiting for it to "work" right.
0 -
same thing happening to me MMR now even worse than ever people who say ti is just a day or less let me remind you that this system uses data of several months and it has been tested out before so if it is bad it shouldn't be changed when u try to fix something you don't change with something broken but new you get something working.
Every time I play I'm only playing against someone who camps for entire game like there is 4-5 gens they start camping, excuse me but ######### this ######### first of all make sure your game consider camping is not a skill just a tactic.and for survivors I came across with there is always one that dies at every possible way like a paid actor even in the safest places
1 -
Yeah it was different for me last night.
My killer games were still the same as they were when SBMM first started, but my survivor games changed BIG time.
Killers were either super sweaty or camping, and my teams were intentionally throwing the games. I still felt that some of killers were on my skill level a little bit at least some of the matches it did.
I don't know I'm just going to give it time to settle in a little bit more.

Given it has just been added isn't it going to take some time for it to level out and do its job?
0 -
If it had been implemented out of the blue, yes that would be a reasonable assumption. Considering that this system uses your current MMR which is directly based on collective 3 months of collected data on your performance in each game, It starts to not make as much sense anymore
0 -
Well it can't be perfect and if it isn't even close it'll adjust to where you're at now.
Personally I'm having far better games.
