SBMM Transparency.
Hey y'all, I hope you're having a great day !
I want to talk about SBMM transparency (obviously). We're all split about its efficiency, some are saying it's better than old system, some are saying the complete opposite, and some just don't know.
And imo, we just don't know if it works or not, we haven't any solid proofs. "Well, why do I have better games than before ? It's a proof that it works, ain't it ?" And some will say the opposite, as I said before, it's not a proof, it's empiricism, an opinion forged with experience, not a proof.
Anyway, we don't know if it works, because we don't know what is our Elo score, how does it increase, and by how much. Why is it a problem ? Let me develop :
- The fact that we can't see our Elo score is a problem, because we don't know if the matched players have the same Elo score, ie the same skill : maybe we're paired with absolutely random Elo, maybe not. In any competitive game, the league and the Elo is accessible from the other players of the party. You know if you had good mates and / or stronger foes.
- This one is why I really want some transparency : how does my Elo increase ? It is based on what things ? Are these conditions the same than piping conditions ? Because if it is the same conditions, SBMM will not change anything, it will reward the same gameplay as Ranks did/do. And if the conditions are different, why didn't they just replace the current piping conditions by these conditions ?
- And that is somewhat related to what I said above this point : if a total victory gives +2 to the Elo, well, it's the same as double piping, but I really hope that the numbers are not the same, that would be an absolute aberration.
That's it for me. I'm not happy with SBMM because of the ambient tryharding atmosphere, and I want proofs only to know if it works or not.
Hope I'm clear in what I wrote, I'm not a native :x

making SBMM transparent defeats the whole purpose of the system

How's that ? When you win a game in any competitive game, you see the +-18 Elo Score, you see the Elo score of the others, and their league, I don't know in which way it "defeats" the purpose of the system.
It wouldn't change anything, but knowing where you are, and where are the others in the ladder.

We probably don't see our scores because forums and Twitter would be bombarded with mismatched scoreboards, much like with the ranks... and the grades right now...
Either that or the alleged maximum will be revealed and that'll lead to more complaints.
As for why they won't tell us how the system works, I have no idea. People will still throw games to lower their scores and there is nothing the devs can do about that.
Personally I think they're afraid of being transparent because the system has taken a year and multiple failed tests to implement, and if they show off how basic it really is, it'll highlight their incompetency.
I applaud their desire to improve matchmaking, but the way they've gone about it is all wrong.

That's exactly why I want Transparency, because they are doing bad non stop. I copy paste what I wrote a few minutes before somewhere in the forum :
"it's a fact that hell, they are doing things nobody wants for the most part, that are bringing a damn load of bugs, feedbacks are not listened, performance are bad, all of that, with the community manager saying in a live "It's cool to be able to go to work when you want", like WHAT, cool, the game has so much problems, and they're saying on our face that they work whenever they want ? That's why a lot of us, players, are displeased and angry about BHVR."
I want to see if they AGAIN did bad. We paid and some of us are still paying things in the game, it's only respect to be transparent.

ELO score and MMR is not the same thing
your MMR in those games will affect how much elo you gain or lose

Yeah I know, so what would be the problem with transparency ?

abusing the system to get less experienced players.

You can do it with or without seeing your own score... Also only a minority would do that so the argument is... Well, not an argument.
0 -
How is that not an argument? This is a blatant problem in Rainbow 6 siege . Meanwhile games that hide it don't have this problem.
Saying it's only a minority is what's not an argument because it's ignoring the problem
Not mention the pip system is not affected by the mmr

Our experiences have certainly been anecdotal.
I don't think BHVR will be more transparent, because as someone else said (and I'm putting my own spin on their point), BHVR doesn't have a self-benefitting reason to do so. Personally, I think they'd rather deal with speculative-based criticism of their new system than informed criticism.

You should explain why that's the case.
Becuase you can purposefully play badly to go against worse players weather you can see your numbers or not.
And if you know how they calculate the scores and people find loopholes than that's good befuase the drvs could then close the loopholes and make the system better overall

because without an exact calculation you will never know when you reduced your MMR to the point you will be matched with new players
>And if you know how they calculate the scores and people find loopholes than that's good because the devs could then close the loopholes and make the system better overall
quite the opposite actually it creates more problems, If people find loopholes the devs can't fix it they need to rework the whole system.

Take for example if the system took into account silly things like time spent cleansing totems or how long a match played. Then players could purposefully delay matches or just constantly almist cleanse the same totem over and over. Well then the devs could adjust the system to nit take these things into account. Or take them into account in a different way. Using my example thay would be changing monitoring cleanse time to actually cleanses or just nit take it into account at all.
Where as if it's hidden people messing around with totems or unessesarily long games would be very high rank when they don't have the actually skill to be there
