Spirit changes are a tad overkill don't you think?
I mean, we'll have to wait for more changes that could show a potential buff to her base kit but from the looks of it she ain't gonna be very good anymore.
The thing that nobody talks about is that spirit without and with add ons are 2 completely different killers. Id argue base kit spirit is worse than some other top killers like twins, blight, pyramid, slinger etc.
If this came with lets say a yellow speed add on and duration add on built in Id be all for it. Spirit only becomes oppressive with her add ons which (for some reason) are absolutely insane.
I know that her speed and duration add ons are gonna be nerfed, that's just a given, but without buffing her base kit will really leave her where someone like wraith is: just meh.
So what I would want to see:
- Green speed add on built in
- Both changes from this dev update to go through
- Brown charge speed built in
- Slightly reduced cooldown OR no power depletion when exiting phase
- Add on nerfs
- Charge speed add ons buffed (because now you know when she is phasing so the concept of guessing her entering phase is pointless. (plus they feel really nice to use)).
Now that will give her enough pressure to make up for her weaker chase coming.

I think it’s fine personally. She’ll still be easily A tier and that’s where all killers should strive to be
10 -
I would say A tier if other things were balanced.
It wouldn't hurt anyone if a speed was built in to her at a minimum.
2 -
No I think it's fine. She still has options to mask her presence and still moves at Mach 5 so looping will be difficult.
Also we don't know if the directional vacuum sound will play in the terror radius or not, so it's entirely possible her stand still mindgame remains. And if that was mentioned in the patch notes, then I take this entire paragraph back- I read it in my economics lesson instead of looking up internal economies of scale
2 -
Ehh she still moves 176% base if I’m not mistaken which is more than enough to catch survivors. I will say I hope she doesn’t get the nurse treatment and get all her add ons gutted but we’ll have to wait and see
1 -
Well PTB Spirit was considered bad and these changes put her worse than she was in the PTB. She's gone from high tier viability. I don't think people realize how heavy these nerfs are because they're just clouded with hating Spirit and happy she's finally gutted.

Yay
4 -
Yeah that’s fair. I actually forgot Freddy had add ons
0 -
Trickster tier if all survivors have Iron Will.
9 -
So C-B tier? Doesn’t sound too bad to me and way better than the current tier she’s in. We have to remember that the other 2 S tier killers require a lot more practise to play well so it only makes sense that spirit is weaker
1 -
Well with this change Spirit will probably require just as much practice as Nurse and Blight, and now won’t be S tier anymore.
3 -
R.I.P spirit(2018-2021)
9 -
Yeah I thought the dust blow thing that was added to spirit was a little much. I mean I was fine with 24 meter sound phase noise notification but the dust thing was unnecessary. I mean really all I want is the game to balance like maps, tiles, etc.
3 -
I doubt it. There will be a bit more skill but it’s mostly learning to use foliage to hide the footsteps and her not being S tier is cool with me since A-B tier is the ideal balancing point imo
1 -
I mean I wanted her to not be S tier anymore as well but I’m mainly worried about Iron Will.
0 -
A tier killers don’t survive good teams.
2 -
S tier killers are the only ones able to have a chance vs the best survivors.
So you're basically saying good survivor teams should never lose?
7 -
I mean all these people saying mid tier killers are where every killer should be are dumb. Top tier are the only viable killers at high MMR and high tier are just slightly playable, everything else is just trash, that includes all mid tier killers.
6 -
PTB Spirit was considered bad and these changes put her worse than she was in the PTB. She's gone from high tier viability.
Maybe, MAYBE she was considered bad because people weren't able to use her properly yet?
Before this change the Spirit was the only one who had info during a chase: survivors had no idea of where she was or what was she doing, while Spirit could both hear survivors and see their scratch marks
All this change does is balance the information a little bit: Spirit will still know the exact same things she knows now, and survivors are able to tell what she's doing and maybe tell where she is (we don't know how easily still)
I think everyone is forgetting that she moves at ######### 176% with no addons while phasing, and she keeps that speed after coming out of phasing
FFS, Wraith has no problem getting a hit when unloacking and he has to ring a bell before doing it, you really think Spirit would have any problem?
5 -
Wraith has no cooldown on his power, is 115% movement speed, and can SEE survivors the entire time. And he's still not viable vs top tier survivors.
Just camp a pallet or decent window now and Spirit is useless. "SKILL"
2 -
The problem is that its impossible to buff some killer powers to S-tier-level. So it would be easier to get all killer around B-tier and nerf survivor to this level. I just hope we get enough survivor changes.
1 -
Unless you're missing a button you can always break a problematic pallet, every killer has to do that from time to time, believe it or not
Windows? Yeah, sure windows will be a bit stronger against Spirit, it doesn't mean she's going to be useless
At least survivors still need to pay attention to sounds before knowing when to vault a window, what are Spirits doing right now to trick survivors? Ah right, staying still without pressing any button. "SKILL"
1 -
^ Basically.
B tier in DBD is basically garbage. Even A tier still requires lots of mistakes on the survivors part. S tier is actually where you get a fair chance of winning in a good vs good match without relying on survivor mistakes to determine if you win or not.
They don't balance around good vs good though, they balance around low rank players that have no idea what they're doing which is where basically everything's viable.
0 -
So you're going to use the stand still tech, which most players agreed needed to go, to justify making her power entirely counterable by survivors camping a pallet or window.
It's not like they could give her a tell that she's phasing without telling survivors exactly where she is at all times?
Just break the pallet, just chase around the windows. So she's now every M1 killer in the game that can't do ######### against survivors that know how to loop. Some power that is.
5 -
That’s why they need to nerf the S tier killers so they can then balance survivor against them
1 -
When did I say that? My idea is to nerf S tier killer then balance the game around that
0 -
Yeah but clearly they never will and don’t plan on it. Gen speeds have been terrible for years and they still will never touch them.
1 -
Blueberry girl finally getting counterplay. I'm excited.
1 -
Yes and trapper wasn’t buffed in like 5 years yet they changed him. I agree it’s unlikely but not impossible
0 -
Me too. Iron will has been broken well before spirit anyway but I guess the devs don’t see it that way sadly
0 -
They need to focus on nerfing survivors down to a reasonable level BEFORE slapping nerfs on killers that already are countered at high MMR. The whole “Spirit is top tier!” Is honestly a gimmic.
5 -
If you're talking about the "Kicking up dust" part, meh, until I see how much dust she kicks up I'm not going to say wether it's too much or not, it might be something like the "But you can see the shards glow!" argument: completely useless
I don't think she's going to be gutted by this, and you're probably going to be able to trick survivors using the wooshing sound if come from a certain angle staying on the other side of the window
1 -
No - I think like most things on these forums - people are prematurely over-reacting to change.
Shocker that some people are resorting to vitriol and hyperbole.. so shocked. (Eyeroll)
1 -
and they always do, since the buffs
2 -
I haven't seen you in a long time. I don't think spirit is going to be A or B. she's going straight to F-tier. Even complete new player can see dust and use directional sounds to precisely determine where spirit is.
She was like this in PTB and everyone agreed that she was very bad. your going just see survivor drop pallets and camp pallets and whenever she comes next to you, just slide over pallet meanwhile the spirit has no information on where survivor is.
I never want to play a killer that is not at least A-tier. B-tier and below might as well just auto-lose against good teams. Spirit just going to be an auto-lose killer after her changes are pushed through.
2 -
They aren't that strong, you just have to play her a bit differently than how you used to.
She still goes basically double the speed of a survivor while phasing. She has an insane lunge... All you gotta do is use your brain a bit more.
People have said this exact ######### about the Nurse change. "Oh shes gonna be trash now, oh shes not gonna be viable anymore."
Guess what? She ended up just fine.
1 -
what's the point of moving fast when survivors just pre-drop pallets?
0 -
Oh definitely not. She'll be C-B tier at best. The nerf goes straight into survivor handholding. That dust footsteps part of her nerf means that Spirit's blind, but the survivors are not.
0 -
Just think about it, what is the difference between Spirit and Wraith after that? Only one thing, Spirit cannot see!
2 -
The Nurse changes weren't even close to the level of the nerf Spirit got. Apples and oranges.
0 -
I'm finishing up my medical school so I had to take some time off for studying. I'm basically done with school now though so I'll be on more again.
0 -
I think it's weird they are doing both directional phasing and a visual indicator. Like why start off with such a double nerf and not even a compensation buff.
0 -
It's super weird. Hopefully they do something in next dev update regarding her new weak base kit.
I've always hated how 90% of spirits strength comes from her add ons, I just want a speed base.
0 -
my sentiment as someone who plays spirit summed up in one sentence
"welp, time to slug"
every argument I've seen trying to rationalize this takes notice of spirit's speed. Let me remind everyone that the nurse blinks on top of you instantly, can phase through objects, and can see. And nurses still have a hard time. You're telling me spirit, who can't see, has to charge her power, and cannot phase through objects, is going to be okay? Can I also have whatever you're smoking?
0 -
Whether or not these spirit changes are too much or not, I will be able to play spirit now without having to worry the other side.
0 -
Will see on ptb.
