Bronze versus Iridescent

I have played and down-pipped the last 7 games as a rank 2 bronze killer going against an iridescent survivor in every lobby. What is this garbage matchmaking? Why am I getting put against players silver 3+, up to iridescent? I know for a FACT my MMR can't be that good, since I am only averaging 2 kills a game. 7 games *in a row*. I get having one every once in a while, but I wouldn't bother to create an account on the discussion board if it wasn't literally 7 times in a row. SEVEN. Why? Can you please tell me why this matchmaking after the patch has been so horrible? I loved this game until I go against players that can dodge my huntress hatchets without even looking because they have memorized the timing of the throws and know the pixel length of the pallet drops. I am a BRONZE PLAYER. I am on the verge of uninstalling this game. My friend, who plays worse than me, has climbed up into silver ranks - but her survivors are MAYBE gold rank at best. How in the actual lack of fun is this balanced matchmaking?

  • If this post doesn't fit into "feedback" I'll make my edit here: I would rather wait 20 minutes to play a single game against players within a REASONABLE grade range, rather than have a 2 minute wait to play a nightmare of a game. Seven times. In a row.

  • Game number 8 - but do you see what I mean about the people I play against?

Grades are not used for matchmaking, they are just an indication of playtime.

The current system is a Skill Based Matchmaking based on a hidden MMR.

Iridescent doesn't guarantee player is good. U can hit iridescent by being potato that only repairs gens and saves others.

Let me explain u, to hit Iri rank u need on your game either 4 gold medals if u are average at everything or 2 Iri badges (let's assume it's gens and altruism) and 2 silver bagdes. and if u constantly escape (no matter how), unless u are dead on hook, u get better than silver badge.

So again being Iri rank player doesn't guarantee he is good one.

This is why other people's grades need to be hidden.

Do you think grades are not indicators at all? The way I see it, when a player gets more emblem and pips, much like before the grade system, that still shows their skill level. If they reached the iridescent grade within a week of grade reset, doesn't it show that they play well? We still get rewarded emblems like rank system, so even if we reset back to 20, still red grades are red ranks. This current system only cuts back the depip squads, doesn't effect much normal players.

So I believe I can still say, "WHY AM I GET MATCHED WITH RED PLAYERS WHEN CLEARLY I AM NOT."

Grades are not an indicator at all, no, if I play 10 average games and you play only 2, but you do great, I'm still going to be higher grade, but this doesn't mean I'm better than you.

I understand the change can create confusion and it will take time to get used to the new system, but again the matchmaking doesn't take into consideration the grades at all.

And I do agree with this, I feel like people still try to use grades as they used to use ranks to justify their losses.

I am not saying that grades represent matchmaking. I don't have a clue how matchmaking works. Since I can get matched with teammates who can't even hit a single skillcheck, I don't know what skill they based on while matching us.

But I am saying grades still resembles the old ranking system, cause they still use the same emblem system. All players start the season at 20, and if a player hit the red grades after first week, doesn't that mean they play a lot and they are highly probably playing well? And can system differentiate someone's skills after "they did great" at 2 games. How do you even define "you did great"? Does it take to account how much time I looped, or how many gens I popped, or how many unhooks I did?

I still think emblems mostly represent skill at high grades. Because, if you did something in a game you will get emblems for them and most likely pip. Yes, emblem system isn't perfect, but still doesn't it tell a bit about the players' skill level? Again I am not saying it is used for matchmaking. All I am trying to say is you can still tell the same things about a player like you did with rank system. Because it is literally the same system. Just resetting to 20 instead of a color.

Hiding grades could stop the complains, but it won't change the system. You just wouldn't confirm what you knew.

As much as the grades represent what the ranks were, the big difference is that in the previous matchmaking the ranks were actively used to match people with similar ranks, while in this specific system the grades play no part in it.

I understand your thought process, if you play more you have more chances to get better, that's for sure, but it doesn't take into consideration that not everyone learns at the same pace.

And can system differentiate someone's skills after "they did great" at 2 games. How do you even define "you did great"? Does it take to account how much time I looped, or how many gens I popped, or how many unhooks I did?

Mine was just an example to prove how playing more doesn't mean playing better, don't take it as gospel, I have no clue how the system works and what it takes into consideration.

Grades are useless, they are just player level 2.0

No it just tells you they know how the system works and how often they play. One of my team hit Iri1 after one week and they are a fairly ney player. They only played the game a lot like I did when I was new. I'm on Silver 1 right now (and couldn't play the last week because I was on holiday) or Bronze 3 on killer with 4k hrs.

Grades say nothing about your skill

Oh look, it's almost like the game has no indicator of how good someone is and no in-game explanation of how matchmaking works, so all we have to go by is grades, which aren't used for matchmaking, but the game doesn't tell you that they're not used for matchmaking, so posts like this will still be common.

Hey devs, hide grades or show MMR instead :)
