Survivor roles!
So I've had this fun little idea for a while that could probably add some new daily rituals & archive challenges.
The concept is SIMPLE, all of the survivors would be categorized in a role which is the following:
- Objective
- Fighter
- Support
- Survivalist
New challenges could be:
- "Play 1 game as a support survivor"
- "Escape 1 game as either an objective or fighter survivor"
Rules: Survivors only have ONE role even though some could apply to two. Their perks and character premise are what defines what role they belong to. Every player has access to every role because each role has one of the original four as part of them!
Here's the list that I came up with:
Objective - Survivors who are able to complete or locate objectives quicker and more effectively compared to other survivors:
- Dwight (Leader of this role)
- Feng - Technician + she's usually teased as a silent repairer
- Tapp - Stakeout + Detective's Hunch
- Nancy - Better together + Inner strength (totems)
- Felix - Visionary + Built to last
- Leon - Rookie spirit + Flashbang
Fighter - These survivors are the feistiest and are best at directly dealing with the killer. They can prove to be a hindrance by being much harder to catch and must be wary of even they are caught:
- Meg (Leader of this role)
- Laurie - DS
- David - DH + NM
- Kate - All of her perks relate to being chased or ON the killer
- Elodie - Deception + Power Struggle
- Jill - blast mine + resurgence (Jill could be part of objective due to BM and her totem perk)
Support - Survivors in this role provide altruistic and powerful skills to the team that keeps it together such as healing, specific effects, and boon totems.
- Claudette (Leader of this role)
- Ace - luck perks
- Bill - BT ( Bill could be part of the survivalist role tbh)
- Quintin - Vigil + Wake up
- Adam - Autodidact + Deliverance
- Ash - MoM + Buckle Up
- Steve - Babysitter + Second Wind
- Mikaela - Boon totems!
Survivalist - These skillful survivors are able to withstand their own in dangerous situations and have unique skills adept at assisting even when the odds are against them. Survivors found in this role can also have a well-rounded skill set that consists of the other roles:
- Jake (Leader of this role)
- Nea - All of her perks
- Jeff - All his perks
- Jane - Her perks relate to the other roles already mentioned
- Yui - Lucky Break + AMN provide utility for her and others while BO can provide second chances for others
- Zarina - Red Herring + Off the Record
- Cheryl - All of her perks
- Yun-Jin - Pretty obvious why she's here
You'd know what role the survivor is part of because it'd be located on the selection screen, under where it'll state the difficulty for the survivor.
I wish survivors were more than just re-skins of each other so the implementation of roles could give them some significance even if it's slight.
I might post a killer version soon too. I hope you enjoyed this small concept! :D
Edit: It appears that there has been some misinterpretation of this idea. This DOES NOT affect gameplay whatsoever other than choosing a character for new X challenges. You can choose whatever perk you desire for your played survivor, as long as you complete whatever the challenge has asked you to do. I have listed perks above only for the sole purpose of verifying why that survivor is in that role so we don't get comments like "Why is X survivor in this role?".

Cool concept but I'm not on board...
Some survivors will be a must pick and others will be considered troll picks.
People talked about concepts like this before, but for a game like DBD, survivors should stay as they currently are.

I like this idea but it means teachables can only be taught to the other survivors of said role. In which case, your just limiting who can be taught specific perks basically. Otherwise, we'd have to remove the idea of teachables all together.
Cool idea tho.

I hope my formatting didn't change what I was intending to say, but the descriptions I included for the survivors were reasons why they were selected in that role so we didn't have to worry about people complaining why "X survivor is in this role".
I hope this clears it up better, but let's say you had to play 1 support character for X challenge, you can play Claudette without even bringing any of her teachable. You can bring whatever perk you desire, as long as you play as that character and complete whatever the challenge asked you to do.
I hope for this concept to encourage people to play as survivors they normally wouldn't play AND to give the survivor characters more significance. I hope this cleared up any confusion.

Also just encourages tunneling even further? Like why would I chase the so called 'fighters' with annoying perks to last long in chases when I could just win the game by permanently deleting the supports lol.

You dont understand what the post is about, do you?
Its saying the survivors should be listed in 4 categories for the sole purpose of challenges, so instead of "escape as dwight" daily, you would get "escape as an objective survivor." It has nothing to do with gameplay at all.

Oh yeah thought he was introducing some class system mb

How will some survivors be a must pick or a troll pick when it doesn't affect gameplay in any sense?

Thank you for understanding my post, saves me time from explaining it further.
I appreciate it!

I don't think there should be any restriction on what perks people can bring.
What I do think would be interesting is if every survivor got an end-game bonus to BP gain for specific categories.
For example: David gets 50% more for Boldness, and 25% more for Altruism. Claudette gains 75% more BP for Altruism. Bill gains 75% more for survival. Felix gets 50% more for objective, and 25% for altruism.
Just as a way to help define the survivors and give them a little BP boost.

You got the idea wrong, I replied to someone with some clarification that should hopefully get my original intentions across.
I appreciate your input though!
