I’m genuinely disgusted at BHVR supporting NFTs

It's odd to me that NFTs get more hate then the block chain crypto currencies themselves. NFTs impact on the environment is completely tied to the fact that they're riding on the backs of Cryptocurrencies that are very energy wasteful due to how they handle legitimacy.
You guys and you're oversensitive asses are going to get Hellraiser removed from Dead by daylight, mark my words.

Also, if they get nuked from Steam I don't see Bill sticking around
7 -
Considering valves VERY anti-NFT stance, i have a strong feeling they'll have some beef with BHVR and potentially attempt to excise bill from the game. Would not surprise me.
6 -
Defending BHVR at the moment is not a particularly good look, at best it displays astonishing ignorance and at worst malicious compliance.
5 -
I hope that's what happens, it'd knock some morals back into the devs

In addition to the large negative environmental impact, NFTs have become a go-to hotbed for money laundering. Crime syndicates all over the world use this market to clean the money gained from all sorts of crimes against humanity like the drug trade, sex/human trafficking, murder, etc. BHVR partnering with an NFT company at all (and then lying about it) was a horrible decision. Getting Pinhead in the game was NOT worth supporting this market. I guess I'm going to continue to not give BHVR any of my money and only buy characters/outfits with shards unless they make some massive changes to right this wrong. I also hope the people who bought the Pinhead chapter and want refunds get them. Tricking people into supporting this stuff is not ok BHVR.

Hopefully.

Everything.
Everything you like. Play. Listen to. Read. Eat. Drink. Wear.
Look closer to everything.
Or just be selective.

We know.
My mom knows Nestle employs child labour but she keeps buying their cereal because it's the only one she can buy around here.
I know how abusive the music industry is, especially with stuff like Britney's case and rights.
I know how awful Lovecraft is as a person, and how that influenced his work into the unknown.
I know how awful Nestle is (again).
I know the clothes I wear were made in sweatshops.
But it's not about "everything is okay" or "everything is not okay".
It's about whether or not you can actively influence those things as a person.

If a lot of PC Players, especially actives and veterans leave the game, it will hurt the game. If the game gets negative coverage, it will force BHVR to act on something from the amount of community and media pressure.
People leaving the game and being obviously distasteful of it has an impact on DBD as a brand. It can cause new players to stop playing out of similar disgust.
You don't need to chalk this up to "people are just whining again." or "this will just come to pass."
No, people are genuinely just tired of this entire thing that's been happening for over a year now. Bad updates, bad chapters, buggy updates, cheaters, and now this. People are just so damn tired at BHVR constantly being a disappointment of a company that it genuinely has started a mass exodus of people leaving DBD on Steam and even Console.
It's not about how awful the thing is. It's about whether or not you can do anything to change it. It's the same as me worrying about a random stranger I don't know from across the atlantic vs. worrying about someone close to me.
People leaving and boycotting DBD (and hopefully for real) actually will hurt the game and BHVR as a studio because this will stick as long as Hellraiser sticks.

God the drivel coming out of you today @fogdonkey . I like weird hills to die on too but simping for NFTs is a bit out there even for my tastes.
"Keep living in your bubble" isn't an argument, it's just a smug statement and not a particularly meaningful one. Its A couple of levels up from "no u" but really only a couple.
As for bleating about "mass hysteria" you aren't automatically in the right just by showing the least emotion. I could be shrieking like a banshee, dribbling with my eyes bulging out their sockets about how grass is green, while you calmly and rationally explain how it is, in fact, pink.

That's because they tied art to it leading to people stealing artists work to "mint them into nfts"
And it's an obvious ponzi scheme that has no point to exist
2 -
example of art being stolen from a big artist
8 -
I'm an executioner main anyway, unless they want to remove the shrine of secrets, i wouldnt be too upset about not buying a killer or 2
1 -
all ntfs are scams
7 -
Even if they were made with good intentions, there will always be that one guy who cant sell their NFT, and many instances of people getting the money, and dropping out.
2 -
It's literally a blatant ponzi scheme/pyramid scam
9 -
They will censor anyone and anything they disagree with, it's shameful they still have business in the gaming world.
7 -
NTFS is a filesystem
5 -
A shame, really. I've been playing DbD since it was given out via PS+ (not too long before Spirit's release) but I only made this account for the forums yesterday.
I was really excited for today's patch and taking part in all the discussions here but now..? I don't even know how I feel, I just know that I don't plan on playing the game anymore.

Genuine question...I stumbled on an article about this, then came to the forum to see what people are saying. Can someone explain why this is a bad thing?
0 -
NFT destroy the envirmonent
BHVR used them
People got mad
BHVR lied to the community, saying they didnt have them
BHVR hit up epic games
BHVR admitted to lying, the post hidden in between a bunch of bloodpoint codes
A 15 page megathread would soon follow.
6 -
No they aren't
They are pointless urls/strings of letters and numbers that link to files with the appeal of you "owning that url and the file that's attached to it"
0 -
Crypto isn't a file system
0 -
What exactly is the bad thing about it? I don't understand it properly.
0 -
That's NFT
2 -
Ahhhhhhh.
Gotcha. Thanks!!👍🏾

No problem :)

You mention Boys or you mention Prots and you get warned for it and then jailed because you know? ######### a free world when you know they can work a nft and you know supposedly add to global warming, but I think them breathing is more harmful because every word they make leads to a bad decision how has this company stayed in business for this long. Oh lord I may get jailed. But if my content in my game to which I paid for gets taken from me well a La will occur and that's when I get angry.
But hopefully Pinhead stays.

I'm quiting DBD until BHVR does something about this. I've been slowly losing interest in DBD for a while, but I was excited for the mid patch update so I decided to check the reddit and forums and now, BHVR has [BAD WORD] up. Amazing business decision 10/10.

Is it this post ? https://i.redd.it/4542p8lqtvr71.png
If yes, everything makes sense then. We can see the puzzle.
DbD quitting steam to go on Epic store ? 🙄

Yea, I think they're getting ready to get kicked off steam.

If it ends up like this, they will reveal their real face.
All those behind the curtain arrangements to get money with unethical behavior... sad

Unfortunatley, I think so.

BRUHUHUHUU! its enough!!!!!!!! if i would be killer main. i would buy pinhead dlc and play with it.... i dont care the nft stuff. i wanna chilling and get rid of stress and anxiety but its impossible! because the nft ######### drama everywhere! grown up guys!🤬
just note: if the EA Games have NFT then you would be shut up :) and dont care🙄
( sorry my english very broken )
2 -
Ye well EA doesn't and steam doesn't ever.
Opinions about NFT is personal but the fact that BHVR has lied about it at start is another thing and it's disgusting.
But continue to give them your money to encourage them to continue this way.
Humanity has two kind of ppl, those who stands up and the others that you will call the name you want. I have my own word to define them.

Its like the midchapter was just to butter everyone up for some pre-emptive damage control.
2 -
They followed Epic Games in early october. They knew what they were doing and are completely shameless.
7 -
Western companies are completely greedy sick and unhealthy. They are ready to embrace any ideology, even two opposite ideologies just to earn more money.
Their only "religion" is $.

Not really, the only thing they did differently with Pinhead than any other model is making it viable for NFT's. That would have been done by the IP anyway, because the IP has access to the models and keys anyway. All they need to find, is a 3rd party that makes the models available for NFT's, and in that scenario, BHVR would still have done 95% of the work for the creation of the NFT, as they supplied the models and the in-game codes.
Regardless of the situation, BHVR would have been the biggest responsible party for the NFT.
Let alone that NFT's arent actually directly the cause of a carbon emission stamp, that blame still lies at governments refusing to replacing coal plants with nuclear plants.

When I tell you I laughed at one of the newly added achievements.
Hoohboy.

...No they didn't.
Here's screenshots of everything both companies have said about it (From DBD's Twitter and the FAQ from the folks making the HellRaiser NFT.) It's all at the bottom to not break up my text.
But if you read through their stuff, they didn't lie. All they stated was that they give license holders copies of the in-game models and some chapter keys while they work with them. That's not at all shocking. Both parties also state that NFTs will not grant you anything in-game that you cannot buy without the NFT, including the voicelines for Pinhead. (Per Boss Protocol's FAQ.) That also hasn't proven to be a lie.
When two companies collaborate on a project like this, they're going to be working together for months to ensure that the license holder is happy with the portrayal of the license. What this seems to mean for the HellRaiser chapter is that the license holders were holding BHVR to a certain standard with the models (As is expected.) BHVR met that standard, both parties were happy, and the license holders got the models and some chapter keys per the agreement. And if I had to guess, doing an endorsement tweet was just another part of the license agreement.
BHVR hasn't lied about anything so far regarding the NFTs. They've never formally stated that they would or wouldn't endorse them.
And we still don't know if this is just a one-time deal where they sold out/bought into an NFT in exchange for another license that they knew would be a major hit for them, and is one that has been requested for a long time, or if they're planning to do their own NFT's in the future. If it's the second one, then I'll be concerned. If it's the first one, then it's not that shocking of a business move, and more so would speak more about the license holders for HellRaiser than it does BHVR. (And don't get me wrong, I'm not that I'm endorsing BHVR agreeing to that as part of their license agreement. However, there's a big difference between them making assets they would have already had to make anyway for the game and giving them to the license holder and them actively going out and creating/selling/continuously buying/endorsing into other NFT-related things.)
So no, so far they haven't lied about anything. They've actually been quite honest with us about this, as far as I can tell. I can't get mad at them for the normal business practice of working with their license holder. I'm cool with people being mad about the whole NFT thing, as I think it helps ensure they won't pursue this in the future (As, like everyone else, I don't want that.) but we also shouldn't give them crap for things that are common business practice (Again, working with their license holder for said license is normal and a net positive thing.) or things that they just straight-up didn't do. (AKA, Lying about the NFT situation and thing surrounding it in the first place.)
EDIT: Thought I was smart by trying to put a spoiler warning above the images so my post wasn't so huge, but it didn't work, so I went ahead and removed it.

Oh, I just saw this giant thread.
I already said my piece on this in another thread, I'm just posting here to show my support for for this thread.
Whether done with short-term gains in mind, or through ignorance, their association with an NFT by allowing their work to be used to support of it is disappointing to me.

Do you have an editor to read that novel of yours? Because I ain't sure wasting my time on someone's wall of text trying to literally deny reality. If you get payed for shilling like that, make sure it's not in NFTs, because they're worthless.
Now off to the ignore list you go. Have a nice one. Bye. For good.

I thought my eyes were deceiving me when I first saw that.

1) Steam can change its user agreement in a second. Them banning NFTs recently shows that. It's their platform, and they can do whatever they want with it. Multiple court cases have shown this, including when the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission sued Valve Software for not allowing refunds, and then Valve just changed the user agreement the next week to saying "We can deny any refunds at all times." Steam is also know for breaking its own rules, especially with the drama a couple years ago when Valve employees began jumping into VAC banned CSGO account and just deleted hundreds of thousands worth of skins. Do you have BHVR's steam contract? No, you don't, so you have no idea what can or cannot get them banned. Stop pretending like you know what their contract is.
2)
So dead by daylight made a custom Legendary skin for the NFT website and locked it behind a $200 loot box with a 0.1% drop rate. Many people suspect that skin to be Chatterer, but the answer is, we have no idea. BHVR already lied to us, and they are 100% willing to lie again.
3) Nobody forced you to buy anything, that's a strawman argument that you made up. My point was, ADDING A $200 LOOT BOX WITH A 0.1% DROP RATE IS SUCH A DISGUSTING BUSINESS PRACTICE. If that doesn't make you angry, then you probably are just willing to take any bullshit in your life and never fight against anything. What a miserable life.
