Boon Totems need a pre-requisite requirement
Let's review the boon totem as of 5.3.1
-Infinite Use, no tokens
-No requirement to activate perk (just find a totem)
-Boon Totem effects stack
-Killers cannot destroy totems
-Survivors can activate the same boon on the same totem with no cooldown
-Up to 4 boon totems can be active at once
Opinion: Boon totems need a pre-requisite, a limited amount of uses, or some combination.
Here are a few ideas:
-Similar to the "Blast Mine" Perk, Boon Totems should require a survivor to complete X% total progress of generators (66%, the same as Blast Mine, seems fair to me, but this amount should be tested) before a totem can be blessed.
-No more than 2 Boon totems can be active on the map at any given time (activating a third Boon totem would deactivate the Boon totem that has been active the longest).
-If the same totem has been blessed and manually snuffed out twice by the Killer, the third time it is snuffed out will cause the totem to break.

Easiest and most likely change:
"Snuffing a boon will destroy the Totem that was blessed."

Devs probably won't do that since the Killer just has to interact with the totem for a few seconds. I don't think Boons need insane amounts of nerfs, just a few tweaks to prevent spamming and near-total map coverage.

Have the requirement be cleanse a totem

I think they do.
I think every "meta perk" needs to be gutted and then we can look at the base game mechanics.

They won't look at base game mechanics because those are band-aided with perks. That's the design solution. Pay the perk tax, or accept the consequences.
1 -
Starting to think it'd be good for game health to put both sides of the perk tax in as baselines.
0 -
Yeah, just try to compare it to Inner Healing.
I think killer should just destroy that totem.
There is just little motivation for a killer to care about it and leave gens for it.
There is little punishment for using your boon where it will be found fast. It's super braindead to use now.
And NOED / Plaything should be able to spawn over Boon, if there is no dull totem.

Just use the same mechanic from survivors Waking Up other asleep survivors; each time you do the action it takes longer.

Can I ask how would you nerf DS? Cause I know you mentioned that in another thread.
0 -
They could give the killer the option to snuff or destroy the totem. That way the killer can keep the totem if they want for plaything or noed
2 -
The pre-requisite is the activation time.
2 -
Is it though? This would actually work against killers running Thrill of the Hunt and/or No One Escapes Death.

Pre-requisite, meaning a requirement must be met before you are able to perform the "Bless" action.

Just finding a totem isn’t always easy, but I see your point. You already gave a possible solution... I could see boon perks having a certain number of tokens, with one being used every time you bless a totem. Just spitballing maybe 3-5 starting tokens and possibly ways to earn more tokens (hook saves, cleansing hex totems...)

Wait a min... is that how that works? Lol
0 -
You could make it an option. M1 to destroy, M2 to snuff.

If a Bless was equal to a Cleanse, then it's already gone. The survivors have already eliminated that totem for use by the killer.
0 -
Not exactly. By being able to snuff it, the killer maintains ToTH tokens and a potential dull totem for NOED. You would just lose ToTH of course if that was the totem that was blessed, I was referring to dulls or other hexes.

Boons need a cooldown after being snuffed.

How would this function to you? Only for the survivor who blessed it, or all survivors with boom totems have all their boon perks disabled?
0 -
only the survivor who blessed it.
0 -
Yes.
I'm not saying that every time a survivor blesses a totem it should take longer and longer for that survivor to bless. I'm saying that each time a totem is blessed and snuffed it should take longer and longer to be blessed again (by any survivor).
0 -
That's what I'm saying.
A Bless should be considered equivalent to a Cleanse.
Both take 14s.
Both eliminate Hex perks.
If a Bless also; rewarded 1000BP, increased Small Game counter by 1, decreased ToTH tokens by 1. Then it would all be consistent.
Totems would be regarded as destroyed once they're Blessed, only the killer does the actual destroying when they snuff it out, and Boon perks would be on equal footing with the likes of Inner Healing.

3-5 tokens seems extremely unfair. You have to take into account that all four survivors can run Boon perks meaning 5 tokens each would be 20 total survivor tokens.
