Why can't the PTB exist on consoles?
I know this is been asked before so my apologies for not knowing the answer, but I just can't wrap my head around why the PTB isn't accessible everywhere. Betas/trials have existed throughout plenty of games on consoles before, so why can't the same be said for Dead by Daylight? Having the PTB accessible only on PC means that you're getting valid feedback from only a fraction of your total audience. I really don't want another Resident Evil situation here where I go to purchase the chapter, and then the new map is deactivated for 2 months. That chapter also played horrendously on consoles when it was released. Wouldn't it have been nice to have had that feedback prior to release?

Because DBD doesn't have it's own dedicated launcher, is I believe the reason.
Though I completely agree, the ability to see how badly an update bricks last-gen consoles would be nice.

The reason as I understand it is due to how long it takes DBD game file updates (patches/hotfixes) to be approved separately by Microsoft and Sony and Nintendo. And the PTB essentially is an alternate set of game files.
Apparently it's like a 5-7 day turnaround or something, and also the reason why more than one patch even in the same week doesn't happen.
If the game has stayed only on PC they could've pumped three updates through Steam in a single day if necessary.

5-7 day turnaround is hogwash. There is absolutely no good reason why BHVR can’t get the game files approved by the console companies well ahead of time, since the PTB is a PLANNED event.

Makes sense, but if that is the case, then it definitely makes console players like myself hold off from purchasing these chapters on release date. If BHVR can't accurately see how well these chapters run on consoles without releasing it first, then I'm certainly going to hold off on day one purchases from now on, especially after how horrible Next of Kin and Resident Evil chapters ran on day one.

Oh I didn't say it's a good reason. Remember when Trickster came out a week later than they were supposed to? That delay was solely due to one of the console companies not approving the update on time. And you know the devs plan out chapter releases more than anything else they do.
So yes this is very much a thing, sadly.

However this allows them to upload the stable version of the PTB the same day as it's created instead of needing the stable version 5-7 days in advance.
Again all this would be solved if it had a dedicated launcher but

This is well outside of BHVR control. Development companies can get and use Dev consoles, which allow unsigned packages to be deployed on them, but for average consumer you can't install unsigned content. so they would have to fully build the code, send it to MSFT, SONY, and/or Nintendo for signing (as pointed out a good 1 week turn around) and either have a dedicated launcher as Karu suggested that determines which branch of code gets executed (effectively meaning the package size would have to be twice as large) or decide to either keep PTB going until live release or accept that those console players wouldn't be able to play the game for the 2 weeks between PTB and launch.
They would have to dedicate a lot more effort than is reasonable to allow console on PTB, and it would likely result in even worse performance just due to having to distribute a double size package to EVERY player (because you can't choose what updates to download and what to skip on console)
TLDR; blame the platforms, not the developers that you can't play PTB on console

It's because the devs are constantly updating during the ptb and altering things and they have to get approval for everything they change on consoles the ptb would have to last a month for all that to go through in time

The PTB doesn’t need to be constantly updated… if it’s broken to the point where it needs to be taken down, so be it… BHVR should TAKE IT DOWN and then work their butts off to fix it before their live date.

I'm not sure what the excuse would be for a lack of PTB considering there's an example of a PTB in Player Unknowns: Battlegounds which has a console PTB. And I would absolutely prefer the delay in an update drop by a few weeks if it meant the update didn't make the game unplayable for the several days to weeks after update launch.

I thought consoles loved exclusivity?

They're tweaking things based off of bugs and what not happening it's normal to have a few changes during it to adjust this is nothing new, also I don't think old gen consoles can handle the ptb it's a little more unstable than the normal version and I'm sure anyone who has played on there would agree, but even if they could handle it you should blame your platforms for not allowing them to make tweaks without getting approved which can take a while with Sony usually taking the longest.

If tweaks are needed, they can just do it on the live version.
