No one fails skill checks against Freddy
To give context, I have been playing since 2018 and I have played Freddy mainly. I have noticed over the years that survivors do not fail skill checks anymore to get out of the dream world, even if there is no red paint brush addon equipped. This isn't a bad thing, just an interesting observation I have noticed in my games and I have thought about why this is the case. There are three reasons I have come up with, but feel free to give your own reasons from your own experiences. I would also like to know if anyone has experienced the opposite of this post's title because I have not noticed any failed skilled checks in a long time.
1) Freddy is a threat in both the dream and awake states of a survivor. Freddy cannot use his powers on an awake survivor, but he can still injure the survivor. This means, compared to old Freddy who could only injure in the dream world, losing progress and giving away your location isn't as worth it anymore as there is no greater risk to staying in the dream world.
2) There is no action speed penalty in the dream world. Old Freddy gave a sense of urgency to get out of the dream world as quickly as possible because objectives would take longer to do if the survivors did not do anything to escape the dream world. There is no urgency to escape the dream world quickly through a skill check for the limited dream snares and pallets around the map if survivors can still work on their objectives with ease when the current Freddy is not around. Of course, staying in the dream world allows Freddy to teleport more often, but this would not be much different from Freddy teleporting to an awake survivor already.
3) The addition of dream clocks in current Freddy's kit allows survivors to have another way to escape the dream world. This method does not alert Freddy and it gives survivors 30 seconds of immunity from the dream world. I believe dream clocks are the biggest reason that survivors do not fail skill checks because if dream clocks did not exist, then failing a skill check would be the easier of the two remaining methods to escape the dream world (if you don't count being hooked as a method). Even then, however, current Freddy does not stall the game with his power like old Freddy did so there still is not as much of an incentive to lose progress and alert the killer when a sleeping survivor could wait for an awake survivor to wake them up.
On a side note, I also find current Freddy's power unimaginative. Anyone else feel the same way? GeneralV made a great post a while back in the feedback section of how old Freddy's power could have been with a few buffs and changes and I would have loved that instead.

I do agree that he needs an add-on pass at the very least

His add-ons are garbage. Probably the worst of any killer's by far. Footsteps louder, breathing louder, groans of pain louder, all on SEPARATE ADD-ONS. Compare that to Wraith or Blight's add-ons. It's really a joke.
8 -
Yeah all his add-ons suck except Black Box, which is low key god tier at high MMR combined with Blood Warden

I just use visual awareness. I work the gens awake or asleep and find there is no incentive to wake up by any means. Traveling to the clock is a waste and I'd rather just finish the gen undetected.

I don't know if they made sleeping faster honestly couldn't remember but I stopped doing failed skill checks since you sleep too fast anyway and yes clocks are better. Also pretty sure they increased the regression on generator if you fail it.

I fail skill checks facing him, though I'm not entirely sure it's on purpose.
7 -
Yeah, 10% regression and giving away your location to a killer, who can teleport to any incomplete gen almost all the time, isn’t the greatest idea. As you said, it made sense against OG Freddy, but not very much against current one. You also didn’t mention that falling asleep is now always passively happening, so it’s only a matter of time before you’re right back in the dream world.
I despise current Freddy so much.

I despised all iterations of him. I’m glad he’s no longer popular.

Being asleep has so little punishment there’s no point

It's just asking to get camped out or something.
I dont think it's worth it
Imo I find Scary Terry even harder to find while awake.

"GeneralV made a great post a while back in the feedback section of how old Freddy's power could have been with a few buffs and changes and I would have loved that instead."
Thank you, so much! As a fellow 2018 Old Freddy main, it is heartwarming to see such support for my concept.
As for the actual thread, I've seen some people missing Skill Checks against current Freddy, but I am pretty sure it was force of habit.
Within the whole specter of things, you would've liked mine.

I have experienced the same playing as and against him. His current power is not a huge threat for survivors to need to get out of the dream world quickly.

I don't know where you got this picture but I love it

Scary Terry? Don't you mean

I just read an article on "Sharp hand joe"
Thanks.

I love how my first thought when I saw the title was "Yea, that's because no one plays Freddy" xd
(No offense to the Freddy mains out there) <3

If you miss a skill check it gives away your location and Freddy can teleport to that gen. He can then hit you and put you right back to sleep.
You get BP if you wake yourself with a clock/wake someone else up, not by blowing up gen.
Going into dream state on console can cause performance issues so better off limiting waking up.

I know old freddy's much weaker than his current state, but I miss being invisible and able to sneak up on them...

They might be around the same level, now that current Freddy got nerfed.

Do you play Payday 2?

There are some memes with Freddy here and there.
This one is my favorite:

AaAh I need a
when payday 3 comes out, you probably wont see me in this forum for a looong time hahah

Man, I relate to this a lot. It's a special kind of nightmare playing current Freddy and missing old Freddy. I still main him because I love the movies but his old power felt more like him.
1 -
Yeah, I relate to that too.

He's weak enough that being asleep doesn't matter. Rarely does anyone care to wake up whether through skill checks or even clocks for that matter.
It's kinda funny to realize that a killer is so non intimidating that even when counter play is put in front of them they decide it's not even worth the time to take it. Lol it's sad.

Oh my God that's funny

I do agree with the fact that freddy doesn't seem like freddy similar to nemesis not being like nemesis. I wish they brought back old freddy with GeneralV idea for a rework.
As for the title I actually use Oppression on Freddy cause if they miss the skill check with double dresses that's 18% progress lost.
2 -
Well, why let him know where you are? He has a teleport now, and can't see your Aura while you're asleep, so unless you're just about to get into a chase, no real incentive to.
2 -
I would maybe blast gens to come out of dream world, but only if freddy did not have teleport ability. What is the point of blasting my gen if he is going to warp right there in a matter of seconds and whack me back to dream world?
2 -
We all also forgot to address the elephant in the room: the difference between being awake vs. OG Freddy and current is that he couldn’t even attack you if you were awake! That was a massive reason to constantly wake up, on especially considering OG Freddy had to actively put you to sleep (I did mention the passive falling asleep in my first comment).

I think what they should try to experiment with, is bring back OG freddy + New Freddy's clocks, but remove Survivors ability to wake themselves up while in the Dream world through Skill-checks, as well as possibly removing the Dream World OG slowdown.
So Survivors can only be woken up by using a clock or another, awake, Survivor (Maybe not even letting Hooks wake you up). And see how that works, but using that as a base. He gets a ton of Info on you if you don't go and pick up a clock.
However I'm not really a big Elm Street guy, so I'm not sure if the Dream World in the movies allows Survivors to wake themselves up from loud noises in the environment in the first place, might be losing a bit of a thematic element, but unsure.
