Should we get rid of map offerings?
In my experience, not many players burn maps, so I wouldn't care much if this mechanic stayed. But I also don't think it's fair that players can send everyone to a realm that puts the other side at a disadvantage.
That's why I never burn maps (except when I was doing achievements. Sorry for sending you to Haddonfield, killer, but that Myers house gen wasn't going to fix itself).
But what do you think?

Yes.

Pretty sure Myers scratched mirror mains will not like this idea. They so badly want to take you to Lerys :P
1 -
No. Maps are an interesting part of the game.
What we need though is a more balanced offering. IE if a survivor throws a Haddonfield but the killer throws a Glenvale, then Glenvale should always win. There should be more weight attached to the killers offering when the survivors have the ability to throw multiple. It's a 1v4 and the offering weight should be treated as such.

That would be great if offerings weren't tied to each being one green spot on the Bloodweb and even that really, really wants to give you nothing but Haddonfield.
Or if Sac Ward didn't require mindreading powers to not be burnt for absolutely no purpose.

I think map offering should prevent you to go on a specific map.
Then, they should add this effect to the scratched mirror: 100% chance to play on a indoor map = ez fix 😎

Yes. They give absurd power for one of 5 offerings.

They will never get rid of map offerings because the population on Low/Average MMR likes them for fun purposes. It's the high MMR that uses them for gameplay advantages. Imagine someone who just started playing the game and is a huge Halloween fan, so they put a Haddonfield offering just because he likes the map, he doesn't even know it's a god tier map for survivors.
What they need to do is balance the maps. Balance them and map offerings aren't a problem anymore.

Yes, it's not fun being sent to Haddonfield every other game due to some douchebags thinking Survivors are underpowered and need every advantage possible
1 -
However there are fewer awesome feelings than when you randomly toss up Sac Ward and send a shytt-yourself Myers into the corn instead of Lery's or the ol' Hawkins...

Balancing every single map in the game is a huge task though and will never be done. Turning off (or tweaking) map offerings could be done in a single patch.
1 -
Well, both are probably never going to happen tbh.
0 -
True, but one is way more likely!
1 -
Ahhh yes, let's make sure that the Infectious Fright Nurse is guaranteed her Midwich offering, that sounds fair.
1 -
Exchange Bluddy Party Streamers for everyones Map Offerenings because they are both GREEN item bloodweb. Then leave MAP offerings only available for CUSTOMS. Here come the trash crybaby killers LOL.

Ahhh yes, something that doesn't realistically happen basically ever. Let's use that as a reasonable counter point.
2 -
To imply that killers do not use busted map offerings in order to gain a competitive advantage but survivors do is silly. There are maps that are too strong for both sides and both sides use their offerings regardless of whether or not the match will be fun or fair for the other side.
2 -
Which ignores the mathematical reality of it, which is that survivors will overall acquire more map offerings than killers, and there are more survivor-sided maps, so if you assign equal weight to every map offering, not only do survivors have an even chance of winning every contest, they'd also win for sure all the times there is no viable map offering to play for the other side.
Of course, I'm on side "scrap them because they're just headaches".

I agree with this.
But in general, no, they shouldn’t be removed - map offerings are not the problem, maps not being balanced is the problem.

"To imply that killers do not use busted map offerings in order to gain a competitive advantage but survivors do is silly."
To imply that's what I implied is silly. Stop speaking in hyperbole if you want a reasonable conversation.
There aren't really busted maps for killers first of all. Using nurse as an example is pretty disingenuous as she's the best killer in the game which you rarely even see played in the first place, much less throwing a Midwhich offering. You know when the last time I saw that was? Never. Not a single time since Midwhich release and I play way, way more than the average player.
"There are maps that are too strong for both sides and both sides use their offerings regardless of whether or not the match will be fun or fair for the other side."
Killers throwing maps to get a competitive advantage is basically throwing a map to have a balanced game. What maps are you imagining being thrown where the killer has some crazy advantage? To imply that there are many heavily killer sided maps is just factually incorrect.
Conversely there are many, many maps that are extremely survivor sided that do heavily skew the match and are thrown on a regular basis.

No.
What should happen is BHVR finally fixing the handful of maps that are just gross for both sides (RPD) or are absurdly survivor favored (Haddonfield, Cowshed, Pantry, Badham).
I'll often bring offerings for maps I enjoy, like Yamaoka, Midwich and Ormond. Yes, only one of these is remotely killer sided, but they tend to be fun games regardless. Yamaoka is my absolute favorite map with Midwich a close second.

Exactly.
The issue isn't offerings, it's maps that are extremely unbalanced that are the issue at the core of it.
1 -
If the maps were balanced, the offerings would be even more clutter. If they were balanced, it should just be a vote (or random pick from said votes).
0 -
…That happened to me once. I got sent to Rotten Fields, of all places.
More on-topic, what if map offerings, including the ward, had their own category of offerings?
Also, what if the ward just doesn’t get consumed if it doesn’t trump anything? The offering ‘refund’ mechanic has gone criminally underused, after all.
0 -
Yeah I’d be okay with sacrificial wards being refunded if it doesn’t do anything.

Same

For the love of God please there's too many ######### maps in this game and honestly most of the time people use them to troll
1 -
No. It's a way to let players vote on what map they want. I actually think they need to rework map offerings into a more detailed and better map voting system.
1 -
I think map offerings cause more grief than actual benefit to the game, I’d be perfectly happy if they were permanently removed.
1 -
No. Balance the maps first, then map offerings won't be so crucial to gameplay.
Mirror Myers would be impossible without an indoor map offering.
Thing is most people don't mind ending up on any particular map (except RPD), it's only when they know an offering was played that they get pissy about it.
So, make map offerings secret, like mori's and shrouds. You wont know if the map you got was because of an offering, and you won't be able to DC for every hidden offering or you'll never play a game at all. And you won't instantly know it's Mirror Myers when you see a Lerys offering.
1 -
Would killer count for 4 votes?
1 -
Good point.... I suppose they would have to.... but the map system is already unfairly survivor biased since theoretically all 4 survivors can burn a map offering when killer gets only 1.
0 -
That's funny because the first time I played Spooky Myers, it was one of the survivors that burned Lerys.
It was beautiful.
