Smartface Bubba doesnt need to be removed
Comments

Not missing anything. All I'm saying is that an artist not applying textures correctly isn't racism. Look at the news if you want to see actual racism.
5 -
It’s a face. You’re making it about race by calling it a “black face.” Bubba wears people’s skin on his face. He does this regardless of ethnicity. To exclude black people would be incredibly racist. To include them is not racist at all. Bubba wears your face. If your face is black, it’s still just a face. It’s not special. It’s not exempt. He will cut it off and wear it all the same, regardless of what you choose to call it.

Not deleted yet? Then I have time for one more remark:
LEAVE MY SMARTFACE ALONE, BHVR.
6 -
No. ❤️
1 -
Yes.
I love that cosmetic and would like to keep it, thank you.
6 -
Ugh, what is it now?
4 -
But don’t you see, you’re the ones making it about that stuff. You’re doing it to yourselves. To everyone else it’s just a face like all the others. That doesn’t change just because some douche comes along and uses it to troll.
The stuff you mentioned is horrible, but every race on the planet has been through that in one form or another.
You all need to stop obsessing over this stuff because you’re just hurting yourselves. I do care and honestly, the only way you’re ever going to cope with this stuff is to change how you deal with it, how you respond to it, how you see it. You can’t keep putting bandaids on everything. The underlying issues will remain and if you don’t change from within, they will never stop affecting you.
4 -
It's absolutely what everyone is talking about, and now that you get proved wrong you're back tracking.
4 -
Yes ❤. You don't speak for black people, you aren't the emperor of black people. It's more racist to remove it
8 -
You are still talking about the face mask and not the darkened skin beneath or how people use it to harass others?
i am with you on the mask itself, that one makes sense. But the skin beneath needs to be adjusted. And further adjustments to all 4 to make them more distinct to each other and to make them actually resemble the 4 original survs instead of just their skin color would just be better in general and would help against the usage in harassment
3 -
Yes I was, because that’s what I was responding to lol.
Sure, I can get onboard with that.
Edit: just be clear, I’ve already addressed the harassment angle in quite some depth and have found that it holds no water, but I am ok with adjusting all the masks so they may better represent each survivor.

Badly applied textures aren't racism. That's what the entire point was.
2 -
No one asked for straight out removal. And GoodBoyKarus has shown you several people of color that have directly stated how it is offensive for them.
1 -
Either the problem is
1) Racists using the cosmetic to make targeted attacks. The solution to that would seem to be to ban them when they're explicitly doing so. It's rather up in the air if removing the cosmetic or reworking it would actually stop anything or just have them find something else to move onto. Particularly since I'm sure they could easily milk any replacement cosmetics for the same purpose because people would know what they mean.
2) The badly-done textures changiong skintone. Solution: fix the textures so Bubba's skintone is actually constant across all cosmetics, not seemingly left blank.
3) Bubba wearing Claudette's face is in and of itself racist. But nobody seems to think that's the case (at least AFAIK), so that's not a concern.
1 -
Yep, this has gone pretty much how I expected.
0 -
They literally implied that they wanna remove it countless times tho?
And I am black, and the mask itself is not offensive in any way
6 -
One question: will the removal of said cosmetic stop the people, that are targeting streamers of color? Or will they continue to harras them even more because they actually managed to have such a big impact?
2 -
That is why I am surprised it hasn't been closed or deleted yet.
But well, at least I can share my opinion a few more times.
0 -
Probably the latter.
6 -
And you are the voice of all black people? And the opinion of the streamer that GoodBoyKaru mentioned is of less value than yours because…?
and can you please point out a comment that asked for removal of Smart face without touching the other skins?
2 -
I don't really want to share my opinion because I'm afraid someone will make it about my skin color.
2 -
The intent matters. If certain people are using it to harass streamers, those same people should be banned.
0 -
I'm saying all that needs to be done is fixing the textures because removing it is racist, objectively.
Just read the whole thread
If people are being racist, ban them. It's that simple
2 -
My concern there, if the problem isn't actually anything to do with the asset itself, is that any cosmetic based on the four survivors will, at this point, run into the same issue. So... what then?
0 -
Literally in one of the tweets they posted it says it should be removed/changed, so yes, they want it removed.
0 -
Please stop saying "you" and "yourselves".
I have said already on this thread I entered this debate undecided on whether the cosmetic needs to stay or be removed. So please try not to be make assumptions.
All I'm saying is that for the people who want it to stay, have you really considered the "benefit" of it staying, versus the obvious hurt it is causing, and does it really upset you if it is removed (and why). For those who want it removed, please don't assume everyone using it is doing so for racist reasons.
I think you have to have that debate, and not trivialise this. I am seeing a worrying lack of one side trying to understand the others specific issue, and if I may say so (and no offence because you seem to articulate yourself well), your posts seem to be an example of that (e.g. "every race on the planet" comment and such).
If people refuse to even try to understand why this is an issue for people there will be no change from within, as you say you want.
0 -
Ah, I don't mind sharing mine.
I love the cosmetic and I don't want to see it removed.
My opinion alone is not enough to change anything, but it seems to be the absolute majority here, so maybe there is a chance.
3 -
Exactly, which it shouldn't be removed, the texture should be fixed. Removing it is actual racism
5 -
Maybe.
Regardless, a lot of people in this thread are acting very poorly. A shame we can't discuss things without attacking one another or using one's race as a point of argument, don't you think?
2 -
But you see, this type of person that claims to care about minority voices only cares when it fits their narrative, as soon as someone else who is also a minority has a different opinion on the same issue, it suddenly does not matter anymore.
It's all about inclusivity until someone doesn't think the same as them.
4 -
Okay, and once again: how broad is this tool? Is changing it to a different thing like glasses going to stop the same people from using it for the same purpose? Are we assuming that any Claudette-based cosmetics will not suffer guilt by association because of this situation?
2 -
Apologies, I haven't seen all of your comments.
What exactly would removing that cosmetic do? Do you think it would dissuade people from being racist?
2 -
You when you ignore the word "remove" because it fits your narrative better. 😀
3 -
Ironically, I'm part of the minority and they're unintentionally speaking over the part that doesn't agree with the narrative
5 -
Yes, it is a shame indeed.
3 -
Can I ask you a question mate? And in no way is this anything other than a genuine question. I'm still undecided as to whether it should be removed (but starting to lean one way).
What do you like about it and do you appreciate and understand why people want it removed? Or do you think people are just overreacting on others behalf (or in fact believe ig more people want it to stay than don't it should stay regardless if the reaons)?
Feel free to tell me to go do one, but I'm just curious. No hidden agenda promise.
1 -
Out of context, no one directly involved in the discussion and they want it removed OR CHANGED. Pretty sure GBK has also stated he has talked with her more about it and he has provided more context.
2 -
Oh so when GBK posts it it is within context, but me reposting it is out of context? How is "it should be removed or changed" out of context? It's a pretty forward statement.
3 -
GBK has posted several tweets from her though and has explained it further in his comments. You are taking one singled out tweet and focus on one word while also ignoring the alternative she is directly giving in that same tweet.
1 -
There is no context to "remove or change it". It's a direct statement which portrays exactly what the person who posted the tweet wants.
2 -
Sure!
Smartface means a lot to me: Claudette is my second favorite Survivor and I mained her for a very long time. This mask was the first that I unlocked, way before Bubba's rework, which is one of my most despised changes btw. Since I bought Leatherface on my second day of playing, this cosmetic is also a reminder of better days in the Fog (around the time I unlocked it).
No, I don't understand why people want it removed. What I do understand and actively support is banning racist players who use it for harassment. These people are nothing but scum that don't deserve to play that game. But removing a cosmetic because of horrible human beings? Never.
6 -
Yeah exactly. That person asked for it. No one in this thread actually made arguments for it though. She has made several other points as well that were very much relevant and valuable though.
2 -
Damn, do you have a Twitter or something so that next time dudes start playing Magic the Gathering with black people's tweets, I've some legendary cards to pull out?
2 -
I have no clue what you mean by that but no, I don't have Twitter (thank god)
2 -
What would your adjustment be and why does it need adjusting?
1 -
No, I'm simply saying the opinion of my friends who don't have forums accounts. Please refer to previous comments for said people ❤️
1 -
And why does your friend's opinion matter more than anyone else's?
3 -
Except you can use forums comments for it. Since she doesn't have a forums account I posted her tweets.
1 -
When I say you or yourselves, I’m essentially referring to every relevant person reading, not necessarily you specifically. My apologies.
I have considered that with great depth and my conclusion is still the same. It’s just a cosmetic face. Bubba wears faces. Removing the only black face just because it could offend someone can be seen as racist itself and the prospect has already caused offence to several minorities in this thread. Bubba doesn’t care about ethnicity, he just wants to be pretty.
I do fully understand and appreciate the issue though, whether or not it looks that way, but I’m taking more of a tough love stance than anything else.
I know for a fact that although it may appease a small number of people, removing the cosmetic is not the answer. Those feeling offended will continue to feel offended, and they will look for the next thing to remove or censor, so on, without ever learning to deal with this stuff properly. And that’s a big deal because no matter how much anyone tries, racists will continue to exist and people will always be on the receiving end. To be truly free of this, one must work on themselves. Once they finally start dealing with this nastiness in a healthier way, they’ll realise they have all the power, and were simply giving it away.
That being said I’m perfectly fine with the textures being fixed or each face being updated to more clearly represent each survivor.
1 -
It doesn't. If you believe it should stay as a poc then great, your opinion is equally as valid. Nobody would share an opinion 100% of the time.
I'm not saying that I speak for every Black person, I'm posting somebody else's opinions and providing extra context to them, and as they are my friend and I believe them to be far more knowledgeable on the subject I am supporting her side for removing it.
If people could change my mind from the point she has provided then my viewpoint would change as well, as I used to be entirely for keeping it in the game (and old comments of mine betray this).
