The Ripper - Jack the ripper as a official killer. Yay or nay?
I've recently asked myself a question. That question being what if they added Jack the ripper as a killer in DBD. How would he play? Power? Perks? Lore? Would the community be for or against it? So I am here now looking for answers. So dear reader, what do you think? Should Jack be a killer in dbd? What perks do you think he should have? And most importantly, what should be his power?

The devs already stated they will not add any real person as character in the game.
and I think that’s a good choice and hope they will stick to their word on this! (Unlike no Clowns or no non-human/non-humanoids which for me it’s great they changed their view on this)
adding a real person may feel like they glorify that persons actions etc.

Honestly, where do you stop if opening that door. Ted Bundy? BtK? Dahmer?
Real killers had real victims, and that is who we should remember. Not put the killer's in a video game.

This exactly. They should never add a real-life serial killer; that would be horrible and an insult to the victims of those killers.

I understand people saying we should never add a real-life killer (I agree) but I feel like Jack the Ripper is so... different? First of all Jack The Ripper was never found / identified so you could really make them a semi-origonal killer who was known as 'Jack The Ripper'. I also feel like these happened so long ago that there is no kind of sensitive area towards the victims. While yeah very sad, it was a long long time ago and the actual lore around the killer could be adapted where the idea of the killer of london idea still remains. I think it would be interesting if they added some supernatrual element to the killer that explained their killing and ability to always escape their crimes and then the crimes suddenly stopping was because the entity took them. So... I think it's definitely possible. This has also been done before in other media where the story of Jack The Ripper has been portrayed but it's kind of adapted.

While other media have made works with Jack the Ripper and the Ripper has went from being a serial murder case to being a full blown legend with different conspiracies there has to be a limit. Storytelling with saucy Jack functions because the reader or viewer isn't meant to be in control of Jack. Even in games where you do control someone with the moniker they are usually so far divorced from the reality of the actual crimes that it becomes just a name.
Dead By Daylight on the other hand is designed to put a horrifyingly violent experience in the hands of its players. It's the sort of game that definitely should not use real world beings as it crosses a moral boundary and once you do add an IRL killer you invite in a crowd of people who can be...unsavory. Like if you've what a lot of True-crime channels of youtube and read the comments, you will see some people who make that community really uncomfortable. They've become detached from the horror of the human condition in a bad way.

Fair point, though Jack is a bit different in that not much is known about him, so you could make a fictional story based on him.

You could very easily make a killer with a similar theme, such as killer from Victorian London, but making it entirely or too close to the real person is just kind of disrespectful to the victims and also glorifies their actions, it'd be like Dahmer or Bundy to the game, very bad taste, people really only give Jack The Ripper a pass in their mind because he's got a spooky nickname and is infamous and happened over a hundred years ago, but the reality is he was a sick individual.
To be completely honest, giving serial killers nicknames like that is a total mistake, not that they knew that back then, but those names glorify the killer and those individuals are pretty much all complete narcists as far as I'm aware so it really feeds their ego.

He may have been an urban legend, but the people who got stabbed weren't.
frankly, if the game needs a slightly historical killer, I think maybe one inspired by residential schools. like, that's some real horror.
BHVR would have to fully commit and be emotionally grounded, but I think that could be a really powerful chapter emotionally.
they'd have to be really careful with how they handled it. I mean really careful.

The amount of not really required ethical reasoning you're making are just crazy. You're arguing about respect and memory in a game where you murder people to win. Like, are you serious?

Okay, but what would you suggest as a victorian themed, jack the ripper inspired, killer?
Like how do you think the killer should play? Perks? Power? Etc. I also came here asking that.
Edit: Whoops responded to the wrong person.

PS What do you mean feed their ego? Jack the ripper is probably long dead by now.

He didn't really have any powers, though, just a dude that chopped up prostitutes.
If you're talking Victorian era killers, Spring-Heeled Jack would be fun.
