Proposal for Mori Changes

I have a proposal for a new mori mechanic in DBD and some recommendations on how it can work.

To start off, every killer will now have the ability to mori in the match. You will no longer need to play an offering to use a mori. In order to obtain the ability to mori a survivor, you must obtain a certain amount of hook stages before you have the ability to use your mori. Every time you hook a survivor, or a survivor progresses to the next hook stage, you obtain a token. Once you reach a certain amount of tokens, your mori ability will become activated.

Here is how the base kit will work for this ability:

  • Each hook stage for a survivor will count as 1 token (this includes 1 token for initial stage and 1 token for struggle stage - You do not get a token for the sacrifice stage)
  • If a survivor goes into the struggle hook stage without being saved, the killer will still receive their token for that hook stage
  • If a survivor DCs the match, it will count as 2 tokens if they have not been hooked, and 1 token if they reached the initial hook stage
  • Once the killer has obtained 8 tokens, and the killer has hooked each survivor at least once, then the killer's mori ability will be activated (this is equivalent to hooking each survivor twice before your mori is activated)

With regards to the mori offerings, these offerings will change in order to give the killer the option to reduce the amount of tokens needed to activate their mori ability.

Here are the recommended mori offering changes:

  • Cypress Memento Mori (Green) - Reduces the amount of tokens needed to activate your mori ability by 1 token (Change rarity from Uncommon to Rare)
  • Ivory Memento Mori (Purple) - Reduces the amount of tokens needed to activate your mori ability by 2 tokens (Change rarity from Rare to Very Rare)
  • Ebony Memento Mori (Red) - Reduces the amount of tokens needed to activate your mori ability by 3 tokens (Keep Ultra Rare)

Even if a killer uses an Ebony Memento Mori, they will still need to hook each survivor at least once, and obtain 5 tokens instead of 8 tokens (equivalent to hooking 1 survivor twice, and the other 3 survivors once).

The token numbers can be tweaked if needed, but I think this would work as a great option to incorporate moris into the killer's base kit.

Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks.

I’m not opposed to, say, being able to mori the last downed survivor as a base ability. That being said they only relatively recently revamped moris so I doubt they’ll do another big revamp.

I like it, its fair and not overpowered. The next thing should be improve the mori animations of some killers like, trapper, wraith, hillbilly, blight, huntress, doctor, freddy and pig.

I like the idea, and it keeps the Offerings in place.

Once the Killer reaches the Mori threshold, are they able to keep performing a Mori on other Survivors, or is it "used up" after the first Mori?

Making this change and giving all killers the ability to mori in a match would bring lots of available options to DBD. For example, you could create custom moris that could be sold in the DBD store. Lots of additional revenue potential there. Killer mains would most likely purchase custom moris for their favorite killer, through using shards or auric cells.

Also, I believe this new system would be very fair and promote good gameplay (e.g. having to hook at least each survivor once in order to prevent killers from tunneling for their moris).

It's an interesting idea, but the only problem with this is that killers will just run NOED all the time, which will make this very overpowered.

    New idea:

Remove Mori's entirely, buff keys, nerf the ######### out of all killers. Survivors can now Mori killers.

Am I right, ha ha ha?

If it isn't obvious, I'm not serious. But I think if a dev reads this, that's what is going to happen.

Nah, they are not removing moris. In fact, they want to add moris to the killer's base kit (they stated that before in previous dev streams), but they need to figure out a way to do it. This is why I made this suggestion as I think it's a fair way to give killer's the ability to mori in every match.

I like the idea but do think 6 to 7 tokens would add a much needed comeback mechanic to the killer role so 2 gens left doesn't immediately spell tunnel a single survivor to win. As you state it it doesn't deter tunneling enough and is more cosmetic then actually reinforcing funner gameplay patterns. As for more increases the number of moris available but have them function similar to current moris.

I wouldn't be against coinciding these changes with a survivor buff that increases the action speed per dead survivor. Dbd core issues for me isn't so much balance as an abscence of comeback mechanics. Decision making dbd is so narrow and lacking meaningful decisions that it creates a sense of helplessness for both killer and survivor (ya horror game sure but no one wants to be on the receiving end of this feeling).
