Lack of Different Modes Is The True Issue Plaguing this Game

Im sure all of you have noticed the incessant debates and general animosity between the two different roles dominating the discourse on these forums. Its obvious that this game is not in a healthy state at the moment. This might just be the squeaky wheels moaning after a tough game but I think we need at least take a listen to what both sides are saying and ultimately strive towards creating a better experience.

I think what is causing this friction is that lack game mode variety in this game. Right now we only 1 way to queue for games and it has become obvious that this is the source of most of the strife. Casual players, Competitive Players, Solo Players, New Players and Veteran Players are all foisted into the same lobbies causing mismatched games that often lead to substandard game play. If there was a Ranked Mode and a Casual Mode you could more easily pair players with other players who are looking to attain the same style of play. Whether it is highly competitive and strategic matches that are determined by razor thin margins or casual spooky matches that are random and goofy, you are more likely to find a game that you enjoy if you can queue into a mode that best aligns with your gaming philosophy.

Just my suggestion but id love a game mode with a perk randomizer so that both sides get a break from the monotony. You'd see a wider roster of killers when players arent too afraid to play their level 5 Ghost face in the fear of a 4 man SWF squad bullies them for for 30 minutes and holds the game hostage. Likewise you'd probably see a lot less sweaty Spirits in Casual allowing survivors the freedom to play against a wider variety of killers. Even something like a limited HUD mode with no perks would be kinda of cool.

I know in some ways this is a pipe dream. The player base is simply too small to segment the few who remain into different queues. But if this problem is not addressed I dont see this game retaining a fan base at all except for those ardent few who truly enjoy this game. Lets face it this game is fairly impenetrable for new players and if my friends hadnt gotten me this far I would have moved on after playing for like 3 hours. That being said, even this far into this games release I think it has potential to be a really fun and unique experience.

Any type of game mode never stopped people from trying hard. It's a false dream and reality is often disappointing. All it will do is cut the player base in half and just make queues longer than it has to be.

BUT not gonna lie I do want casual mode not because it makes people want to chill out and not try hard but because I genuinely want a game mode where every player including the killer has a voice proximity mic. It would be hilarious and probably flood dbd content for a year.

So what if people will tryhard in casual? Or if queue time will be longer on one mode?

You can just play the other game mode which you like more.

Its about having an option to play anything else than just one game mode for several years.

At this point I will take any game mode, ranked, casual, experimental event mode, and even single player/story mode.

I would agree with you, but proximity chat with the DBD community? Swf bully squads would be uh... Not so enjoyable.

Because people are acting as if casual mode will suddenly repair the idea that people would just play to have fun. It doesn't. It's just a reality check for you guys. Queue time is a problem because the game isn't equipped to handle the player base being split in half. It can barely handle queue time already and just flat out give baby killers to veteran survivor groups because there's not enough players.

Here's what happens when the queue time is anything longer than 3-5 minutes. It gives you killers like these. Below 50 hours while the survivors have over hundred if not thousands hours in the game.

Ah placebo game mode. You're not playing something else. You're playing the same game except there's a word that says casual mode. You'd have to add something to validate another game mode otherwise it's useless.

I agree that you can't possibly prohibit try hards for queuing up into casual mode as you certainly cannot control what goes on once a game starts. Part of the problem of this game is the fact that the skill ceiling is so high and that good players have the ability to absolutely dominate the games they are in. Mismatched games are brutal and exceedingly un fun. What makes matters worse is that you have no surrender option. The killer can slug you, ignore you and then pick you up and play with you and draw the game out. Likewise survivors have the ability to bully the killers and stall the game as long as they want. Leave the game and you receive a penalty.

I am not a developer and I only have about 100 hours into the game but my frustration is that 95% of games on both sides are stomping or being stomped. Unless they fix the MMR or institute different modes the only other solution I can think of is to create join able/searchable custom lobbies that allow players to dictate their own parameters. I think it would be cool to look at what lobbies are open and join the one that seems fun. Seeing lobbies like "No Perks No Addons" "Dwight Knights: All Dwight All Night" or something in that vein would allow players to tailor their experience and alleviate some of the pressure. Just a thought.

I mean there should be an option to mute if you're having those type of players regardless I believe adding voice proximity would be fun.

I'm not sure you can make this claim with certainty. It may sound like it would logically follow, given the game's history and current state, but something like a perk-roulette game mode is so alien to DBD that its hard to predict its influence on queue times and player behavior.

Will people try to win in such a game mode? I hope so. They still have an objective to complete.

But if an overwhelming amount of players want a casual game mode where they play with whatever perks & items the game gives them, there is inevitably going to be a ripple effect on gameplay and the mental/emotional state of players before, during, and after a match.

A killer can't get mad at survivors for bringing 4 beemers, because the game gave it to them.

Survivors can't get mad at a killer for having Franklin's because the game gave it to them.

Its not easy to predict how it will be received, which is why BHVR should be testing this ######### with events

I just want a fully functional bot option in custom. That's enough for me. :>

I would love to have private bot matches so that I could learn different killers and maps at my own pace.

It'll never happen because there's always some bullshit excuse from either the devs or the players themselves that it can't happen.

    Excuses include....

It would make the queues longer. (cause playing the same thing on repeat and people quitting doesn't already do that)

It would take a balanced game. (Which I agree with....funny how that hasn't happened yet though.)

It would take time away from balancing the game. (I agree....which if that was true...why isn't the game balanced yet?)

The games code isn't good, a new mode would break the game. <---So leaving it bad is the alternative?

When you actually listen closely to the excuses people come up with for alternative modes, it actually shows why there hasn't been anything truly new in this game for 5 years. Self defeating prophecy seems lethal here.

As @Myla already said, a pure double game mode like ranked and casual won't help but increase queue times dramatically or the majority will flood to one mode and it won't be different to now at some point.

You can see the same in for example league of legends. People trying their hardest to win against people with casual "playing for fun" attitudes in the normal queue and others lazing around in ranked games ruining it for the competitive people.

And that is just one example and that game has a mostly WORKING matchmaking system unlike DBD.

The only thing that could work would be something like the proposed random perk game mode but that would also come with some really unfair balance issues.
