Killer made of black mist
I was thinking it might be interesting to have a killer that part of their base kit is they are made of a black mist that is intangible to survivors, as in they have no collision with survivors so they can’t body block survivors and survivors can’t block them. Obviously I’m not thinking if this as the only ability the killer has but rather as an unusual side effect for them. On the one hand, not being able to body block a survivor could be disadvantageous sometimes, but on the other hand being able to ignore survivor body blocks can be beneficial sometimes too so it might be a net wash.
I know the tech to do this already exists since killers, for instance, become intangible to survivors after hitting them. This would be a killer who always has that intangibility active, except maybe when they are literally doing an attack.
Thematically I’m thinking a killer that is made of the same black mist that makes up the Entity’s realm. Mechanically you could possiblypair it wit maybe a fast travel ability where the killer turns to mist and streams across the map, or maybe a bit of a chase ability where they can occasionally mist over pallets or vaults more quickly, or even possibly phase through thin barriers sometimes (have to be a bit careful on phasing through barriers though since it runs a risk of putting the killer in a broken spot on the map or falling through the map, etc.) The possible animations for it could be pretty wicked too. 🙂
I’m curious what other sorts of killer abilities might make thematic sense with a killer made of mist?

A bit not so well known counter to bodyblocking survivors are 2 killers:
Ghostface and Michael.
When they are stalking, they lose collision with survivors. It is a little niche, since you also become TERRIBLY slow while stalking, so it doesn't work if survs are running away.
But if the bodyblocking survivor RUNS INTO YOU, you can stalk for a split second, so your colliders overlap just the tiniest amount, and you can walk right through them.
This is also a tactic for survivors, btw...:
While stalking, if a survivor is too close to you, including inside you, you can't stalk them.

Thanks, cool tip! I had no idea stalking removed collision, have to remember that. 😄

Freddy used to function like this when he was initially released. It was...a choice. One that enough people disliked that the devs reworked him.

I never played old Freddy. The wiki doesn’t mention that he had no collision, just that he was invisible to people who were awake?

Old Freddy couldn't physically interact with survivors until they were asleep. It was weird because you couldn't see him and he couldn't attack you, but if he downed someone who was asleep and picked them up you'd just see a survivor floating in the air on their way to a hook. I don't remember being able to bodyblock Freddy when you weren't asleep cause it sorta didn't exist. It was hyper thematic in that way, but it just sort of meant his power was just make people fall asleep so he could actually play the game. Once you were asleep though, everything just took longer to do and his old addons made doing gens excruciatingly long affairs.

Gotta admit, that’s definitely thematic. 🙂 Too bad it ran into balance problems and such.
