Remove Kobe (%4 self unhook)
First of all it causes more harm than it’s worth by being used as a way for tilted/ selfish survivors to kill themselves the majority of the time, ruining the game for their other teammates
and for the very few times it actually does work it’s just another way killer is screwed over by RNG
overall it’s just a bad/ outdated mechanic.
removing it would give killer the peace of mind that all of their hard work can’t be undone by bad luck, and also give the other survivors the peace of mind that their teammate won’t “rage quit” after being the first person to go down

the fact that it’s only 4% makes it a tool for survivors to kill themselves on hook and essentially “rage quit” without rage quitting and receiving a leavers penalty. The amount of survivors that do this because they don’t like the fact that they were found first is staggering
that’s the main issue. The fact that it also screws over killers when it does actually work is just the cherry on top

Hell with that, make it 10%. That way people go for the gamble and change things up, instead of just using it to get out of a game they don't want to play.

I love it when people get a self-unhook (that doesn't include Deliverance). If I'm playing Killer, I almost always actively try to keep them alive, just because it's so damn difficult. As long as they didn't burn a Luck Offering of course. They've earned at least a chance to get out alive.
Have had a few matches that got turned around too when a Survivor got that 4%, and we ended up escaping. It usually does end in failure though, but hey, RNGesus giveth and he taketh away.

Some people are really missing the point of the argument
the major issue wasn’t that “4% is OP”
the primary issue was the fact that it’s only 4%, so survivors use it as a tool to rage quit and screw over their teammates without actually quitting and receiving a penalty
the fact that it also screws over killers when it does actually work is just the salt in the wounds of a bad mechanic
removing it would make solo queue survivor a better place primarily

There's an achievement on Steam for unhooking yourself 50 times this way. No Mither one hook challenge games lets gooooooo

And it was one of the easiest achievements of my life. Wish they replaced that with the Huntress challenge. I wouldn't mind unhooking myself 1000 times.

having 3 attempts at a 4% chance to unhook yourself is 11.5%.
(.96) x (.96) x (.96) = 0.8847

So in 5 games just now without deliverance I was able to self unhook myself twice using only luck offerings. Its pretty amazing when you do it yourself even if you died you almost want to take a trip to Vegas to see how lucky you really are. That 4% feels now like it was boosted

People would just find other ways to kill themself like running at the killer or spamming lockers. Removing the 4% wouldn’t fix anything

If you flip a coin 3 times, each flip has a 50% chance to land on heads, you don't add it together for a 150% chance, because the previous attempt doesn't affect the new. Same here. It's 4% chance on each attempt. Therefore, even if you got 5 chances, you'd still be at a 4% chance of any of those chances panning out.

A lot of people in this thread are overlooking the issue of an extremely swingy RNG mechanic. I would have no problem with kobe-ing if the downside was something that wasn't tied to RNG.

I disagree. I play Solo queue mainly, and I think it would make it an even crappier experience than it is now, or at best, make not much of a difference.
Solo queue is the Clown world of DBD. Of course, I try to avoid killing myself on the hook most of the time, but we're all human and if I'm on my 5th facecamping Bubba standing there nodding at me, and none of my team mates are on gens, I want to be able to opt out and move on to the next match. Another example is being on the hook, no camping Killer, but you've found yourself to be matched with a 3 man SWF. So none of them even try to come save you. In that scenario, of course I just let go and die. What's the point?
BHVR already extended the time it takes to struggle (didn't realize I couldn't say KY) on the hook with the newish struggle mechanic anyways.

I only use it if they are all so far away that I k ow I'm getting to second hook, so I take my 4%.
Like, they're on their way, just i possible to make it before I get to second.
I recently kobe'd on one of those occasions and the other teammate was as baffled as me and didn't react for a good few seconds 😂

You're right you don't just add it together; that's not what I did though if you followed through on my equation.
If I hand you a coin and say 'you can flip this 100 times and if you land heads at least once, you win', do you think the chance to hit heads is still 50%?? Of course not.
You are confusing how dependent and independent event works.
If I say 'I flipped this coin 99 times and it all came up heads. If I flip it again, what is the chance it will land heads?', this is an independent event and the chance is still 50%.

What you are arguing is the gamblers fallacy, which is the idea that sooner or later it has to hit heads once. Unfortunately that's not how math works. Plenty of people in my hometown can't afford to leave now thanks to that particular fallacy.

Probably it should be removed to prevent people entering the second stage on hook faster, or alerting others that the killer is camping. Slippery should grant the ability to unhook at a gamble if players want to play that method. I actually like this idea.

What he means is that the 100 flips is it's own event, so you don't compare 100 flips to 1 flip, you compare it to another 100 flips and another 100 flips etc. I understand gambler's fallacy, but we're talking about the numbers and math of it, 1 flip is 50% chance but flipping a coin 100 times and expecting at least 1 result to be head has a (1-(1/2)^100) chance of occuring (pretty close to 100%). In terms of gambling though, the numbers are usually way lower so you probably will never win the lottery in a lifetime
EDIT: actually my explanation sucked, but easier way to look at it is in the basics of random chance, if you flip two coins, what are the possible results you can get? you can get 2 tails, tails then head, a head then tails, or 2 heads. how many of those results had at least 1 head? 3, and 3 out of 4 possible occurrences resulted in you getting at least 1 head, so a 3/4 chance or 75%. You can also get that by doing (1-(1/2)^2). That's what he used for the escaping hook chance, though the calculations for that is (1-(24/25)^3) which is about 11.5%

You seem to be misunderstanding how odds work.
If I ask 'What are the odds of rolling a 6 on a 6-sided dice 10 times in a row?' the answer is not 1 in 6 (which is the odds of rolling a 6 on a 6-sided dice).
The fact they are entirely independent of each other means we simply multiply each roll's probability together: 6*(1/6)6=1/7776 =~ 0.01286%
You don't just say 'Oh, well, it's 1/6 because you have a 1 in 6 chance every time'.
