Did the difficulty of killer suddenly ramp up?
Hello everyone.
I am not really complaining (in reality I am, though :P), but in my 680h of DBD it never felt THIS hard to pip with killers as of the moment. Tonight I had a lot of really cool games, yet I hardly pipped 5 times and depipped twice.
The good games were nearly all "Brutal Killer" ratings and in the gold ranks you need to have such a good game, in order to get your pips. I don't remember it being this hard last month or ever before. I always hit Iri 1, save my first month, but now I am doubtful if I will hit even Iri 4.

Yes, piping up as killer is unbelievably hard unless you are noobstomping every match.
Play in time of the day where most players are outright bad, or else you'd need to be extremely skilled.

Tournament structures recently have shown the value of coordinated play, so people that love the game, and watch youtube content that considered themselves 'average' beforehand, most likely improved just by watching groups of S-Tier Survivors play in a well-structured, team-oriented format.
Efficiency shot up on the survivor side. Makes it harder for Survs.

Bro I have little been farming and throwing games on purpose just to complete challenges. I haven’t won a game since before February 13th this last game I got a flashlight squad with dead hard. Like I should be in low mmr. Only got a 1 k but I was using demo with 2 perks lmao

There are some guides you can find online that explains exactly how the Killer emblem system works, and the very scummy, and very unfun way to play Killer to ensure you pip to get your Killer to rank 1.
- Gatekeeper; Don't let survivors finish gens, most importantly don't let them open either door for 9 Minutes. The more gens for the first 9 minutes of the match the more points. Early game stalling perks like Corrupt Intervention, and Ruin help with this. End game perks like No Way Out and Remember Me ensure they can't open the gates.
- Devout; You need to hook all survivors at least once, you need to hook survivors at least 9 times, so any disconnects or suicides on hook - boom you've lost the emblem. You get points for Sacrifices, Kills, and Disconnects (but get your hooks in before they disconnect). If they bleed-out you don't get points and lose your emblem.
- Malicious; You get points from hitting, and each time a survivor reaches a new hook state. Another reason why hit and run is important for the emblem system (countered by CoH), and why it's bad if survivors sui on hook, or disconnect. Survivors healing losses you points, so if it's in end game and survivors are running to one side of the map away from the gens to heal - you lost your emblem. You have to chase them, meaning if you lose those gens, or that gen you would lose your gatekeeper emblem. So hard to juggle these two emblems as they directly counteract each other, but the best way is if you corner the survivors, damage 2-3 and hook 1. Then you only lose points for 1-2 survivors healing, and if your lucky start chase with one of them before they had time to heal. You also lose points for survivors breaking from your grasp, so don't ever DS check, and be careful around open areas (flashlights), lockers (Head On), or Pallets. I guess or drops too now, because of Boil Over.
- Chaser; You get points for starting chases, and you get more points the sooner you end a chase. You also get more points each time you hit a survivor during the chase. However if you don't hit a survivor at all, then you get no points. If you are too close to hooked survivors you also lose points the closer you are to the survivors. This was intended to counter camping, but the problem it brought up is that you lose your emblem if the Survivors decide to loop you near a hooked survivor, which they will do a lot of the time when your against players that are not very afraid of the killer and know their DS/BT, and other garbage will protect them for saving in dangerous situations.
Anyways so it was figured out the best method was nothing but gen slowdown, tunneling, and hook exchanges - if you can pull it off, but this came with players being annoyed because so much slowdown is not fun, tunneling isn't fun, hook exchanges are not relatively fun either they are like borderline tunneling, and it also means you're borderline proxy camping the whole game. The reason for this is because it gives the smallest amount of control of your emblems to the survivors, when ordinarily if you played switching a lot of targets keeping a lot of 'pressure' - survivors would have full control over your emblems through healing, saves, and rushing. Not to mention players just suiciding on hook, or disconnecting - you lost your pip's already. Anyways here is the emblem points you need for each pip at each grade level; https://deadbydaylight.fandom.com/wiki/Emblems#:~:text=4-,Pip%20Conditions,-As%20of%20Patch
Welcome to the part of the game you see so many of us talk about, it only get's worse from here.

Why do you care about pipping? It doesn't do anything. Your actual rank is hidden and the pip system does nothing except for giving you extra bp at the end of the month ig.
1 -
Yeah been stuck at gold 2 this month.. I have tried though and everytime i get close to gold 1 i depip back to 0.
Love the SBMM just freaking love it.
1 -
Why do you care ANYTHING beside pipping? this game has nothing else to look for.

Just playing the game is fun enough to keep playing. If your color rank doesn't change the game then what's the point of it at all?

BP, to have fun, is to have BP.

Ever since Patrick's Magical Lottery (SBMM) got activated, I noticed that there seems to be a cycle both for my killers and survivors where regardless of winning/losing the quality of my team/opposition doesn't change and stays surprisingly low or high. You might notice that in a week's time, your matches are suddenly easy again and no matter how many times you 4k you still get adorable potatoes trying to CJ tech you and throwing the match in the progress. And then, one day you log back in and it's seal team 6 even after 20 4 men escapes. A pretty good job so far indeed.

It is not hard. When i play this game actively, it is not hard to get Irri 1 with both roles.
0 -
It can be easy, it can be hard.
As long as you are consistently matching against competent survivors, that is hard.
It's nice if this is not hard for you, but there is countless factor that can make it harder.
2 -
I don't know what do you mean with competent survivors. But worst survivors i face have totem 1k hours.
And no, grades does not need skill. It needs game-time, that's all. If you play long enough, you can get irri with both roles. So there is not easy or hard. You just need to spend time.

My day one p3 Sadako is way more important than pips. Those bloodpoints will come too late, so I do not care about them at all. I have sacrificed so much to make this happen that a measly 2 mil is nothing. I threw away at least 10 times that just for the tiniest day initial boost.

The survivors potential is so much higher than killer if they work together or are in swf on comms and actually play good than killer no matter how good you are.
The 4v1 potential comes in clutch,4good survivors are much stronger than 1 good killer.

First off want to say I have 1000 hours which was just into survivors so I am a survivor main. And having this much hours I do know how to play. But I wanted to see the other side, and I accurately enjoyed it, till MMR kicked me in the butt. All games I play to the point of how I would like a killer to play, making the game exciting no tunneling and no camping. Sadly at first it was fun till I got better survivors yes it has taught me to be better but I have maybe 50-100 hours of killer and MMR seems to put me against some of the best, again I learn but it’s not fun. I can now understand why many killers left when MMR was introduced it’s just not fun to go against all survivors that are strong while being a newish killer. I have learned a lot and understand how difficult killer can be and how stressful it can be and why most killers are now tunneling, camping, and using these crazy stupid builds. All in all MMR has ruined the experience and that’s why you see a clear drop in players when it’s been announced.

Time it takes to do so is the difficulty, basically in any games.

You have a month my dude, it is enough time :)
But maybe it can be hard for people who have not so much time.
0 -
If you want to pip every match just playing legion. You can get a 0k and still pip.
1 -
Well slightly different from what I wanted to say, it's not "hard because it takes long", but more like time it takes is what determines if it's harder or not.
If it takes much more matches than previous month, it is certainly harder, and vice-versa.
So it can vary person to person, but general opinion would be similar if they are playing in same time of the day of same region.

Ironically, it sounds like the SBMM system is giving you the correct matches. I had the exact same problem last month, the games felt fair and I was averaging around 2 kills per match, which equated to averaging around a black pip every match too. I was stuck on Gold IV for a week, every pip was matched by a depip. (I'm too stubborn to change my playstyle to maximize emblems.)

Honestly, what kind of replies did you expect to obtain while typing this in an incredibly killer sided echo chamber where people complain of every minor thing survivors do?
0 -
at least I did not expected extremely salty and antagonistic reply like this.
0 -
Antagonistic - maybe
Salty - not at all 🤨
0 -
Well that's worse I'd say.

Look, until this month I was mostly with you on this statement. I am not one of this "how comes that my poor Ash 4 butt gets thrown in with four Iri 2 monsters?", thats not what I am saying.
Mostly rank indeed just correlates with playtime that month, but you don't rank automatically just by playing, so it's not decoupled of skill and just a reflection of your hours that month.
The last two weeks I got lots of strong matches and a fair share of 3k and 4k games, yet as killer it feels now unreasonable hard to pip up and I never had it that hard ever before. These days I have loads and loads of matches were I actually do quite good, yet I hardly ever pip up. It feels like moving through molasses, but you must never slack, or the Entity will be displeased and serve you back.
That's why I am ranting a bit and asking others if they are doing just as bad or if something changed. Well, the grades reward changed, so I guess that there are way more sweat squads or there :V

Err, if you are having hard time pipping while getting 3k or 4k, the chances are you are playing a killer whose not good at pipping.
inta-down killers tend to suffer so much from it, as they do less chase and less hurtful emblem which I forgot the name of.

I mean just reading your post I can feel the echo chamber forcing me to agree with you. I'm not sure exactly what is happening. Is this what echo chambers do? Can you hear my echoes? Are they killer sided echoes?
1 -
No. It depends entirely on the skill of the survivors
0 -
How many hooks (not hook states) are you averaging per game?
0 -
I complained about this a while ago. Even pipping in bronze ranks is close to impossible if you play "normally" and don't happen to play Nurse or Blight.
