Killer whose ability is survivors play in first person
I spotted a video the other day of someone who had somehow set up a private server with survivors in first person perspective. Not really interested in how they did it, but it was fascinating to watch and got me thinking it could pretty cool having a killer whose unique ability is the survivors play in first person perspective. It’s definitely a disadvantage for the survivors, no question, but it’s also one that really ramps up the tension for the survivors since they have a harder time keeping track of what the killer is doing and doing things like spinning a 180 go throw a pallet, etc.
The main hitches to the idea I can think of would be
- I’m not sure thematically what a good background for the killer would be. In terms of the killer’s story how do you explain their effective curse they inflict on the survivors for the course of the match?
- From a technical standpoint it’s hard to tell how practical it is to program the survivors to play in first person. I imagine the very basics aren’t too complicated, it’s probably mostly a matter of moving the camera to the proper position and fixing the relative angle. But there’s also I think the consideration of certain animations not looking right in that perspective if you’re a survivor. Like if they drop a pallet or use a gen, they may not see their hands in quite the right place possibly. For sure if this killer required all the survivors to get brand new sets of animations it probably isn’t practical to make. (Although who knows, they did for example make new animations for Victor being on survivors’ heads, so maybe the system is flexible enough for this?)
- The other thing is from the killer’s perspective they wouldn’t see anything that unusual. The game would look normal to them, it’s just a change in the survivor screens. Other than survivors playing worse than usual the killer would not experience anything out of the ordinary unless they had a second facet to their abilities. Hypothetically you could swap the killer perspective to third person as well, but that actually might be too powerful if combined with the survivors being in first person. (It would certainly be different though!) So I’m not sure the killer would directly get the same engagement out of the gimmick as the survivors, it might be too passive an ability? Another possibility could be this is something the killer actively inflicts on the survivors using their Power button, that would make the effect a bit weaker but more engaging probably.

I know what video this is, a Fengmin. There's even video of her playing with a camera in an aerial angle
But let's face it, it may seem cool and innovative at first, but it's just a matter of habit. I'm pretty sure that in few months people will be clamoring for buffs because just putting the camera on 1 person won't be enough.
That is, if the killer is focused exclusively on the camera, without some passive acting behind the scenes (because his/her chase power is already the altered camera for the survivors in firist person).
But honestly, I prefer a simple killer without passives, a traditional but powerful m1 (like huntress, for example). I miss a simple killer being released, even because these new killers after pinhead are all practically the same in gameplay
About the thematically... idk, but any killer that involves altered perception of reality would look good...

I like the creativity!
I don't know how balanced or effective it may be... but I certainly do like the thought put into it!
