AFK Pig is officially dead

It only took people using and promoting an exploit for them to add in a mechanic people have been asking for since the Trapper buff.

I just wish they got rid of the RNG mechanic entirely and just made it search 3 boxes(increases/decreases based off of add-ons used).
It would have removed the frustrating RNG from the pig for both sides but instead like normal they didn't address the real issue just the symptom.

As I always say, that is a deceptively hefty nerf to the Pig because Survivors will have no need to do boxes ASAP and can wait until the timers start since they'll almost never die to the Traps. The Pig will have to wait longer to get her stall benefits.

I see it as a clear nerf..
Apart from the already mentioned shorter ways from box to box I feel that it takes away the chance to pressure the last box since that Survivor now has the possibility to choose.
You could've simply just nerfed the stupid Video Tape instead of taking one of a few pressure moments of an already RNG based and "weak" killer

The devs changing it does not mean it wasn't rare. I've never personally ran into it and I've had plenty of games against pigs since the addon rework.
Also wouldn't really call this a significant change. Pig had an addon that gave an extra box and adding a conditional check to guarantee a key on the 4th search isn't really a lot of work.
It's a pretty simple change to address a rare, but not healthy gameplay.

It's a huge nerf. The extra box add ons are detrimental and just help survivors get the key faster now.

Here it is. The worst killer in the game gets another nerf.
Piggy is official dead.

You're ignoring the fact that Survivors are more likely to have to search more boxes.
1 -
No, I don't ignore that. But I'm not convinced that it'll make up for the reduced travel time and the loss of the pressure when they have to go for the fourth box.
1 -
The loss of pressure does not really change much unless you are actively trying to kill a Survivor with the RBT, which is not where its strength lies. Each wrong box adds an additional 12 seconds of searching plus whatever time is spent getting to a box (plus the extra possibility of getting caught in the open by the Pig). I'm not convinced saving enough time having to travel shorter distances to make up for having to search more boxes on average. If you think otherwise, I'd love to see the math backing that up.

if it was affected by Nightfall, the comment would not only be plainly visible, but glowing hot white.

1st) I won't do maths cause I can't - I'm just talking about my feeling about this
2nd) I wish I could have this conversation in german to properly explain why I have that feeling.. Still trying in english..
Survivors are guaranteed to find the key for their Reverse Beartrap at a maximum of 4 boxes searched (It can still be found sooner, but you will never need to search more than 4 boxes)
Mathematics have never been my strength but lets say that the key is in fact already in two of 5 boxes, which makes those two boxes still a 100% hit. Doesn't the chance of 25% - 33,33% - 50% - 100% stay unchanged since box 4 and 5 share the same result?

"Doesn't the chance of 25% - 33,33% - 50% - 100% stay unchanged since box 4 and 5 share the same result?"
No, because you now have more boxes to choose from and have a higher chance of choosing the wrong box. When you have three bad boxes and one good box, the chance is 1 in 4 or 25%. When you have four bad boxes and one good box, the chance is 1 in 5 or 20%. Instead of 25% - 33.33% - 50% - 100%, it's now 20% - 25% - 33.33% - 100%.
To save a little time on doing the math, the chances of a Survivor having to search all four boxes has gone up from 25% to 40%.

"When you have four bad boxes and one good box..."
THAT is my question.. Is it really four bad boxes and one good box or is it three bad boxes and two good? Yet, again, my bad maths.. Wouldn't that change the calculation? Excuse me if I'm getting on your nerves but I really wanna understand that :)

If it's three bad boxes and two bad boxes, then yes that does hurt the Pig significantly. The reason I don't think that is what they actually did is that the patch notes don't say that there's an extra key in the one of the boxes. It only says that Survivors are guaranteed to find their key in four searches maximum. That to me strongly implies that they simply made it so after the fourth search, the Trap always comes off.

In that case it would make sense, yes. I just interpreted it the other way since it's not clearly written.. I'll hope you're right

Believe me. If it turns out that I am wrong and that they did just drop a second key, I will be very, VERY sad.
1 -
Without any doubt - total agreement from my side.. That being sad thanks for the talk and lets see how it'll turn out to be :)

It was bound to happen eventually.
Fun while it lasted to do something different though. Back to the same ol same ol.

I agree, survivors have less pression when killer chease survivals arount box and she is less powerfull on big map

More boxes means lower percentage to find the key
Let me put in a easy way so people can see why we see it as a buff
2 boxes = 50% for first box to give you the key with the 2nd being a 100% now add 2 more boxes the chances are now 25/50/75/100 with each box added the survivors chances are lowered and with this change we now have another box which lowers the percentage of first three boxes containing the key
0 -
Oh, that's how fractions works? Thanks xD.
But more seriously:
I can't make cross post link on the phone so here is the relevant sample from a post in another discussion:
So, the chance of finding the right box is now:
- 4% less
- 5% less
- 8% less
- 50% more
- (no more 5th try)
But since there is one additional box, the next box is closer or there is another box to chose that's far enough from the killer.
4, 5, 8 % lower chances are pretty negligible compared to the fourth 50 %, now final, chance increase and both the shorter distance and additional option to get one box.
Ergo: nerf.

Is this real, or satire to make fun of the developers? I genuinely cannot tell...

This is taken directly from the patch notes
I just wanted to make a thread because AFK pig was a hot topic on the forums for a while. It was nice to get a bit of closure on it
3 -
I was just so confused because nerf Pig topics are such a rampant joke and the idea of literally invalidating her power sounds fake, but still something Behavior would totally do. I was lost. Ha ha ha... Thanks so much for the response.

I didn't know AFK Pig was more than a silly joke made by a streamer a few months ago. It was easy to counter too.
Well, Pig was weak and is now weaker. Her power has always got a strong random factor, making it a mostly useless gimmick against all but beginners. It will not change how many times I verse her and I will still only use her for dailies that I cannot replace.
