Pets By Daylight

Introduce a 'pet rescue' mechanic that could unlock the ability to find and rescue during the trial. Dying would not prevent you from recovering the mechanic the FIRST time, which would lead you to be able to buy different types of pets in the shop. The amount of small/medium pets outside of simply dogs and cats is staggering and a whole new way for them to create cosmetics for revenue/rewards.

Effects:

Similar to how zombies are clawing at the windows in RPD, player brought pets could be easter eggs throughout every map in the form of silhouettes, in vents/behind barriers creating ambient noise.

Then when around the campfire we can change which pet(s) we have out(up to 3). Pets would be sitting/playing around the campfire. Also, let us rescue Maurice..

Let me hang out with Maurice damn it.

Why not? Give a reason instead of being a killjoy.

BHVR needs revenue to continue working on this game. This is a suggestion that won't depreciate the current mechanics. As much as bhvr pisses me off, I want them to make the game overall better.

There is nothing lore breaking about having animal familiars/pets either.

I still like my idea of a new survivor perk category with pets.

basically if you equip such a perk you will have a companion following you in the match run by a simple ui and giving an effect just like your regular perks. Eg a cat that can make distracting scratchmarks. To avoid performance issues etc you would need to limit these perks to one per surv probably.

also, they could introduce special cosmetics for these perks that would alter the color/pattern of these pets. And while at this, add cosmetics for killer powers as well. It’s time Victor gets his hat.

I dont typically give suggestions up until recently, since bhvr didnt really act like the type of dev to listen since they dont really pay much attention to their fog whisperers as a whole.

The interaction with the killer is that once theyre found, the pet is incapacitated until the end of the trial.

They have listened often to their community though, and pretty much from the beginning.

STBFL was a perk pretty much suggested by someone from the community. Recent examples are OoO, DS, Hatch/key changes, LGBTQ+ inclusion, plenty of killer changes/buffs, I would even go so far as to say some of the new killer powers were inspired by community suggestions/concepts.

None of that is recent. Recent is a year or newer.

They actually DON'T listen that much to their community. My post count might be in the 30s but ive been playing since you didn't even need to hook someone to use an Ebony Mori. Ive played over 3k hours and watched even more Fog Whisperer streams. Even they say that BHVR has their own prerogative and don't really listen to much.

    Hatch/key changes came last october

Ghostface and Legion changed with Haddonfield rework were all part of the latest midchapter update as well as the LGBTQ+ inclusion as part of the tome, other notable killer changes were in the last midchapter update in 2021

the OoO change came on May 5th 2021, also not that much over a year ago.

i will admit DS change isn’t as recent. Though still not as long ago (patch 4.6.0)

they listen often and implement many of the community suggested stuff. The problem for you seems to be that they don’t solely implement everything that you want. The community is large and very diverse though. And listening doesn’t mean just doing anything that is being asked.

Well I honestly have been lobbying them for changes that have to do with things like game security/updated anti-cheat. ive been harping them on twitter about it for a while now. This should be a no brainer and top priority. Have they even acknowledged rubberbanding? lol This has been a problem since before the Epic Store release(just now its even worse). I, personally, won't stay in games where there is blatant cheating(hook stage manipulation, hovering/warping one shot killers with no perks etc). I get at least 1 a day and I'm typically sitting with a DC penalty. This isn't a Me issue at this point, they're being selective of suggestions that will make them money. I understand that. Revenue = Updates. They haven't done well on Steam in the last year despite hefty sales. I can't say about other platforms, but they need to shift gears.

So, I really need a good reason to stay in a game where someone is manipulating the game server side, which can lead to issues since I don't use a VPN(I shouldn't have to pay for a VPN to play a game i already paid for, bc free ones don't do well with gaming bc of bandwidth limits). They can do all the perk changes, load us with 1000s of cosmetics.. but why play the game when there's an ongoing security issue?

I need something to distract me from the abundance of cheating, since I actually LIKE Dead by Daylight. I want to see it do better. Else I'll just reinstall CS:GO or TF after 10 years if im going to play with hackers all the time. Maybe I have bad luck? Dunno. But i'm going to keep giving BHVR ######### until they do something about it.

    Edit:

And you're right. I'm one of the people who suggested a locker teleporting killer back in 2017 before these forums even existed. Took them long enough :P

Easy Anticheat is a thirdparty anti cheat System that gets probably constantly updates. They also have addressed some anti chest measures in the dev update in January. Also a few weeks ago there has been a massive ban wave.

rubberbanding is an acknowledged issue that had a tentatively fix in the latest PTB (which wasn’t successful) - though we will have to wait and see if it will be fixed in the live update.

you don’t have to stay in matches with cheats, it’s actually one of the reasons why the disconnect button exists and why disconnecting starts with a very low penalty.

also, facing cheaters at least once a day seems like you are either very unlucky, are getting targeted specifically where matchmaking is also influenced by them or you may be exaggerating/calling out cheats where it’s actually other issues.

all that said: I agree cheating kinda got out of hand and they need to put in more focus on this.

edit: also thanks for acknowledging that you falsely accused me for the recent stuff and you didn’t just switch to something else to complain about, that shows character

I wish I was exaggerating about the cheating. If it was just scummy playing, I would just write it off or afk till the next game, but i'm paranoid about having my IP stolen and having my pc compromised.

How would i be getting targeted specifically? Leaving the game wouldn't be so bad if the Penalty reset daily but it doesn't. It resets with an unspecified amount of PLAY time(so it cant be abused). The only way I can avoid a DC penalty most of the time is just tabbing out and letting them do whatever.

That said, there needs to be more incentive to stay in the game and not just DC(for any reason), since BP gain from games with cheaters/farmers/salt extractors(slugging/intentionally toxic) is absolutely not worth staying in. Punishment might deter a little bit, but incentive to play I feel would be better. The whole catching flies with honey over vinegar argument.

People disagreeing with your suggestion doesn't make them a killjoy, by the way.

This is a forum, others have a right to disagree when you ask for their opinion

  • ihateboons
    ihateboons Member Posts: 167

By that same logic, I can say that, which is disagreeing with them in return.

  • Valik
    Valik Member Posts: 1,274

    Untrue.

There is a difference between offering and asking.

If you make a post about something on a forum - you are welcoming comments, that is the nature of a forum.

When you comment on a forum, you are offering your point of view.

There is a difference between offering disagreement or a different perspective - and asking for other people to offer their points of view and insult them on a personal level when they do not agree.

There is a right to offer and a right to ask. Those who offer can disagree, but those who ask must not act entitled to validation from the community - which is exactly what this is.

Why are you derailing the topic?

Stop post jacking. Either comment on the subject matter or don't.

I also asked them WHY they disagreed. No response.

  • Valik
    Valik Member Posts: 1,274

    Wow.

So now, disagreeing is bing a killjoy.

Pointing out that you're being rude to others for no reason is considered 'post jacking'.

At least we all know what kind of member of the community you are.

Pets in Dead By Daylight is a creative idea, but misguided and completely impractical.

It is a shame to see such an innocent topic tumble into vitriol for no good reason. It could all have been avoided if you could have taken 'no' as a simple answer.

    Have a nice day, Boon.

I hope future posts will not divide us further.

I was actually thinking about a mechanic like this last night. The way I brainstormed it, it went like so:

The game would introduce a new offering type -- an animal's leash -- which I had tied to a new survivor I'd come up with to introduce the mechanic (I named him Cecil Stevens, he was a dog walker before being whisked to the Entity's Realm) who was dragged in along with his Pembroke corgi Mishka. The Entity knows that the survivors would derive endless hope to feed on by the chance to "save" Mishka, so she's allowed into a trial with the offering.

Once Mishka was found on a map, enclosed in what could be reasonably called an "Entity-derived pet carrier", the survivor finding her would have to pick her up and haul her around, suffering a movement penalty while doing so; if someone escaped with her, then the next time the campfire was witnessed in the main menu for all four involved players, she'd be happily sitting/playing with the group until the next trial was begun. I thought about making her a bloodpoints multiplier, but I feel like this shouldn't effect the meta TOO much. Because all four players can submit the same offering, multiple instances would be reflected as follows:

    ○ One offering: Mishka spawns 30 seconds into the trial, and only the last survivor on the map can carry her out; everyone else must have escaped or died, and the exit is blocked if the game detects two or more alive, which includes hooked players.

    ○ Two offerings: She spawns one minute into the trial, letting survivors focus on gens a bit longer, and she can be carried out if there's only two survivors remaining.

    ○ Three offerings: she spawns 1:30 into the trial, and she can be carried out if there's three survivors remaining.

    ○ Four offerings: she spawns two minutes into the trial, and she can be carried out as soon as gens are complete and the doors are open.

Why are longer spawn times a good thing here? Because she'd whine and whimper if left alone for too long, which survivors would have to remedy with a progress bar to calm her down, effectively making them babysit her or tuck her somewhere very obscure if they don't want the Killer to find her. And if the Killer DOES find her? Obviously hurting a critter is a big no-no, so they would just thump the dropped carrier as if they were snuffing out a blessed totem, and it would be whisked over to some other random part of the map. Anyone holding her carrier would also be forced to drop it if attacked as if Franklin's Demise was in effect.

Finally, using the "go there" and "come here" gestures when close to her enclosure would cause her to yip and react happily as an easter egg; DBD Overdose needs its cute and funny moments fuel for further videos. :P

EDIT: I totally forgot to mention what Cecil would bring to the table. His perks would be all about making Mishka easier to transport and using her as a source of intel. This way, if a player didn't want to bother with the mechanic and not have the perks cluttering their bloodweb, they could just not prestige him at all.

    ○ Cynophilist: Reduces the movement penalty for carrying Mishka by 60/80/100%.

    ○ Between the Ears: When the Killer is within 16 meters of Mishka, their aura is exposed; the effect persists for 4/5/6 seconds. Named for the folklore of how looking between a dog's ears will allow you to see ghosts or paranormal activity.

    ○ Good Girl: Mishka can be left alone longer without having to be calmed down, increasing her meter by 45/60/75%.

Still don't understand how slugging can be seen as toxic because like, you actually are able to live longer since you're not being hooked, it's more of a blessing than a curse tbh

Sure it might use more of your time but you are still alive for the most part and can crawl around at least instead of hanging from a hook unable to do anything
