Freddy Feels Weak
The video below emphasizes many of my points. While I could of played smarter, I wanted to show how long a chase could go.
- People say Freddy shuts down loops. Yes, but only after walking through the loop once or twice. Then they just slam a pallet down and you have to hope they hit the pools. Not only this, they also have to be in the dream world. The pools are so small, survivors just run to another loop and do it all over again.
- Alot of other killers have some way of countering pallets. Spirit that trick people and zoom around, Sadako can instantly just teleport to somebody else to attack, Clown can gas them or speed himself up, Trapper just places a single trap, Artist can place a crow, Pinhead can chain them, the list goes on.
- Pools are too small. Any experienced survivor can just sidestep the pool if it hasn't been placed in a choke point. Or, somebody else who is afflicted with sleep can just run through them before hand.
- His powers are nigh useless unless somebody is asleep. With the timer, it helps a bit. But what other killer has to depend on some sort of status effect to get use out of their power? I suppose vomit lady, but it's more of a passive power that operates on it's own.The only thing Freddy can do is teleport, and his teleport takes a long time to manifest. So survivors are usually miles away by the time your done.
- The slowdown. Why? It was his one advantage, he wouldn't lose momentum in a chase and place his traps at the same time. Now that 5% is all it takes for someone to vault a window or pallet.
- Pallet power is easily countered. Once people figure it out, they just slam all pallets they see down. Some people have even figured out ways to know how a pallet is fake or real.
- Entirely dependent on perks. Because his power is so weak, perks have to make up for his lack of ability. You can combine some things to make pallets less annoying.
- Sometimes the power just doesn't even work. Why? Idk. I just can't place it on the ground. There is a point in the video that you can see I attempt to lay down traps and simply cannot.
- Only 5 traps to lay down. That hag has 10 or so, and her traps are WAY better. So why can't Freddy have more?
- Doesn't slow down fast vaults/pallet jumps. This could probably make all the difference. But people can dash through them no problem, making putting a trap before any vault or pallet completely pointless.

That's because Freddy IS weak. He got nerfed into what feels like obscurity. I have a feeling BHVR just wants to forget the Nightmare On Elm Street chapter ever existed. His dream pallets are basically better than his snare now because it's such a useless ability.

I am not going argue that Freddy is perfectly viable. After all his nerfs, he could maybe use a few small buffs.
But I am going to say, whoever is playing freddy in that video is not playing him right, at all. All this Freddy really is doing is spamming his traps like a mad man, and keeps going around the loops the same way, without even trying to properly lead survivors into the traps, hindering the survivors on reaching the pallet before he can get a hit against them.
Not to mention the Freddy here even missed at least one opportunity to down the survivor because he was too busy spamming his traps everywhere.

I'll admit, I was rushing it. Freddy is listed as a moderate skill use killer. If I got ot carefully plan placements of traps and lure them into a small spot. I got to make sure I got the exact angle I want without the game denying me the ability to lay it down in the first place. The area has to be suited for the trap. Too many factors.

I did say I could of played alot smarter. It's more of a showcase how his powers have to be so precise to have any efficiency. But you can't really deviate from trap placements since you now only have 5. Survivors just bolt somewhere else or out the door/other openings. Am I expected go place a trap at every entrance of the room? Placing a trap on the edge of a loop, where they could just say "######### it" and run somewhere else? And leading them into the trap? The traps are so small, unless it's placed in a choke point and you're right behind them, it doesn't slow them enough. If I were to go around the room trying to strategically place traps, they just abandon the room entirely. The only time the traps have any use is if the loop can't be abandoned in any way.
As for missing the opportunity, at that point I was trying to show how sometimes his trap doesn't even work. I wouldn't have normally chased a survivor that long in the first place honestly. They seemed to be the only competent player that match.

Wasn't really trying to play him smart. More like showcase how his powers are useless unless you don't mess up a single placement, know the map, and don't get denied your trap. Plus the environment has to be suited to his power to work. If there are too many openings for survivors, they'll just wait till they can leave somewhere else. With only 5 traps, you can't set up anything beforehand really. Even if you had a room ready with traps, somebody could just activate them before you lure them there. Which is often the case.
