EAC on Steam Deck / Proton / Linux

Man I'm super excited about all these new changes coming! Will be super fun!
I hope EAC is configured soon, because playing in stadia is not great. :/ Have to be local.
Game future is looking good!

Got my Steam Deck today, guess I'll play something different until DBD comes for it. :)
2 -
if you can get into VHS beta, it works great!

Just adding a +1 to this. Ready to play DbD portable, not on the switch because cross progression got pulled back into the upside down. Plus the switch is really underpowered comparatively. Please just go to the developer portal and enable the EAC option (s) already. EAC for Linux is there, the game boots and launches on deck, it just cannot connect to EAC.

agreed. i wish there was more open communication and transparency on this and why it has been almost 10 months with little to show. my concern is that the dev team doesn't take us or this option seriously as something they want to even spend time on, even if it would ultimately be a very short amount of time. i don't want to poo-poo the devs tho,i know they work very hard. we just want to be invited to the party too.
just talk us through it and help us understand. because the lack of action actively makes our experience worse/non-existent.
5 -
All we wish for is transparency so we don't wait every update hoping for it. Let's be honest, it's not unrealistic to expect it every time because if the devs had it as some sort of priority, it would have been done months ago.

I have come to realize that we might misunderstand the problem. It may be possible that there are significant issues with DbD in Proton that aren't connected to EAC at all and the devs are just "blocking" (not a bad thing necessarily just some lacking transparency) them behind the lacking EAC support until they can fix those since DbD is a game that's been fighting prejudice of being incredibly buggy and exploitable for years and the devs have apparently recently started to see that as an actual problem, hence the many bug, cheat and exploit fixes they gave.
A game that runs in Windows can be lacking in proton even without EAC, many don't always remember that when being blocked by EAC since then EAC is the most obvious point of attack and I'm embarrassed to have been one of them. I wish to offer my apologies to people I may have been passive aggressive too.
@MandyTalk, do you have the freedom to state whether or not the devs are currently actively working on Linux support at least if it is planned to be worked on any time soon? Of course no hard feelings if you can't state anything to that issue, and I apologize if the constant questions are getting annoying.
3 -
Honestly if that is the case I would personally understand and respect a straight answer instead of an excuse. I'm pretty sure everyone who runs linux understands there can be problems porting games into it, and it would be easier to patient if the reason actually is "hey we need to address these problems before we can publish for linux" instead of "hey we take a year to toggle a switch in the settings of EAC".
edit: btw I feel like i need to address my name fast if MandyTalk reads my comments at some point. My name is also Mandy and I unfortunately created this account before I realized there's a mod sharing The Best Name with me. I'm not trying to be hostile, I was just avid Kesha fan when I created my internet nickname. ;_;

Sorry, but You missed the point: it is the freaking UNREAL-Engine. Runs natviely on Linux. Proton handles the P2P the same way that Windows does, so it is left to EAC and maybe the UI (where I do not see any point of issue).
So in fact: they do not care. And it is making me quite disappointed.
1 -
exactly. Would be cool if it was enabled for beta testing tho just so we could help fix the issues it might have. LOL i thought you and mandy had beef 💀
1 -
no worries, we're good - I understood the name wasn't a beef with me <3
As for transparency, I've been saying over and over on this thread that when we're ready to announce DbD on Steamdeck we will - we've not got an ETA on when this release will be yet, which is something we said when we announced that we would support it initially, we made clear this is not going to be around launch at all.

And i was starting to wonder how I could stood this day without my regulary "We told You we do not care"-dosis..

I understand that everyone will do what they want to.
I can say that the VHS devs have been very responsive, communicative and supportive of making the game accessible to us. If that interests you they're giving away many more beta keys with Early Access being available soon.
The game currently runs perfectly on Steam Native client via proton.
If DbD isn't ready by the time of Early Access, I'm afraid I'll have to move over to devs that care for my concerns.

been playing some vhs beta lately on my linux install. its a nice break not getting tea bagged and flashlight macrod xD
1 -
we should friend up! i'm still terrible, but love the vibe and QoL changes.

It's not that you've been unclear, @MandyTalk . It's more that, as we approach the one year mark, the response just isn't satisfactory anymore.
1 -
when we wait DBD, we can play VHS, without tbag 😀
1 -
VHS use EAC_EOS, what is this?

EAC Epic Online Services

Agreed, not really an issue with the community manager, you can only work with what you're given. But from our side, there's only so long you can "watch this space" for. I appreciate that it's not "just pressing a button", but the lack of communication certainly seems to indicate that is less a case of it taking this long to implement and more a case of it not being given much attention internally.

eac.so added. one step to proton maked

The reason I bought the Steam Deck was to replay Souls games and Dead by Daylight and I'm very disappointed that the game still isn't supported. I can't wait to experience the game on The Deck on day.
3 -
the devs and community are only interesting in the money, cosmetics stupids, new DLC, and no interest in players that can play on other platforms, you want a reworking of the game, but sadly I'm interesting in leaving the game, this is behaviour interactive, the community no interesting, you are interesting in the money

stop tbag😀

@MandyTalk The problem isn't us not accepting that you guys aren't ready to release on Linux, the problem is noone telling us why you aren't ready to release on Linux. We'd be happy to wait months or maybe even another year for a Linux release if we just knew why we had to wait this long.
Please understand that it feels a little like being tricked into continuously following a community and development path that seemingly just refrains from clicking a box to spite a not unsubstantial part of users.

Couldn't agree more.
1 -
Believe me, if we had to buy dead by daylight again on the Steam Deck/Linux it would've been released already.
1 -
literally lol.

did anyone test the ptb?
0 -
i have not. but i expect nothing since they haven't announced anything.

new survey from BHVR, lets post about the steam deck ! dbd.game/3I4qZ8i
3 -
Tested - no EAC Proton support on it
1 -
done! everyone should follow suit!
1 -
Yes, I've filled the Steam Deck in the middle section where they ask about what to add in the future as well as in the end as closing remarks.
1 -
Done!
1 -
not even funny.
4 -
got my steam deck today!
1 -
Grats! Enjoy! What are you planning on playing?
1 -
been grinding spelunky and apex, and playing some squad, which is a pc only game. Excited for dbd and r6 siege to make it to the steam deck soon
1 -
Love it! Here's hoping compatibility comes soon. If not, I'll see you in VHS! XD
3 -
just letting you all know that the VHS beta is ending today as they are preparing to enter Early Access. i expect it to be up and running within a couple of weeks, and it will work on Linux!
3 -
vhs work now
2 -
ok, i've sadly had it with Stadia's horrible, juttery performance. i'm officially done with DbD until it works properly under Linux like any modern game should.
i won't be returning to the forums until the update is announced. i'm moving on.
take care, all.
3 -
its funny to me that video games are literally made for the consumer, yet the companies always think otherwise...
3 -
that would be awesome if behaviour could finaly enable eac or launch a ptb exclusivly for testing on steamdeck/linux so we could report bugs and they could check integrity of anticheat/security and then just give us option to play normaly
2 -
Literally any communication at all at this point would be nice.
4 -
Bump. Still unable to play DBD on my Steamdeck and PC.
1 -
Since my last post was deleted I'll say it again with more careful wording so that it will not be deleted.
By this point it is would be foolish of us users to assume that the replies we get are based on a lack of understanding on the support/dev teams side of bhvr, therefore the only reasonable assumption is that they just don't care about this issue and this user base so any attempt to further the cause will just be met with spite and backward thinking.
1 -
Unfortunately BHVR is very slow on anything they do regarding DBD. Updates, fixes, events, answers to the community and even harassment towards their content creators. If they take time with matters like these, imagine something """less important"""" like Linux Gaming.
1 -
How many years it has been since they announced cross progression coming into DbD? Yeah, I don't have my hopes up. Luckily there's other 4vs1 games I can look into, that actually run on linux. I'm not getting a windows partition because of one game.
