BHVR is very "generous" / 3 steps back 1 step forward strategy
So, I've read the recent devblog and Devs' update about grind decrease is just amusing.
Remember we all complained about forced 50k that makes zero sense? Well, "generous" BHVR didn't get rid of something that shouldn't exist, but just decreased it. Now instead of grinding 2-3 matches to pay prestige fee, you have to grind 1 match. Wow
But that's not what made me laugh. It's their decision to generously increase bloodpoint cap per category from 8k to 10k. Sounds super good, right? Wrong.
How often do you remember getting full 32k matches as killer or survivor? I can't say I get those very often, unless I farm or deliberately toy with survivors who already lost just for the sake of squeezing points out of them. If I play survivor, I can't remember a single game where I got 32k. 28-30k yes, but not 32k.
There are a several problems with new change and one of them is that you don't get enough bloodpoints to fill all categories in a normal match already.
Another problem is "Survival" and "Sacrifice" categories.
Survival category is impossible to fill fully even if you escape unless you run certain builds that generate points in that category (self heal builds for example) or run into the killer dealing with which generates a lot of survival points. Increasing it by 2k is the most hilarious and sad joke I've heard from BHVR in a while.
Similar story with "Sacrifice" category which can be barely filled if you play perfect 12 hook game. I have zero clue where am I supposed to get extra 2k points.
I could go on and on, but I think nuff' said about the issues with that decision. We don't get enough points from the games on average to fill even the old 8k caps and you're increasing them to 10k. Why?
if devs truly wanted to aid grinding, they would've removed "categories" altogether and gave a universal 32/40k bloodpoint cap per match
Remember that match where you had to do just gens in order to win? Or that one game where the killer was chasing you and only you, so that you got maximum boldness in first quarter of the match and then just played 3/4 of it in vain for the hope of getting extra 5k for escape? Or that match where you barely had any proper chases, but got so many hits because you played hit&run ambush playstyle? Or that match where you were using your power so great, you filled your deviousness cap within first few minutes? Or that match where killer was facecamping at 5 gens and you had to genrush him?
If Devs didn't try to invent a bicycle and just removed categories in bloodpoint gains and allowed them to contribute to a universal cap, then in all those scenarios the player would've got more than measly 12-15k bloodpoints.
They`d say that people have to fill different categories and that is allegedly supposed to encourage them to do different things in the match, but that's not true. In half of the cases the player earns BPs in only one/two categories, it is not their choice, but the result of the situation they were put in by other players' decisions and actions.
In any case, I hate to say it, but guess I was right about 3 steps back & 1 step forward strategy BHVR uses to convince you they are giving you QoL changes, while imposing more and more predatory mechanics to force people to stay in the game longer.

I think what people are missing is that the devs didn't want to REMOVE the grind, since grinding is an artificial time sink, something all for profit game companies want to encourage as much as the playerbase is willing to put up in hopes of gaining more sales. They simply made it somewhat more palatable since it was getting way out of hand.

I don't know about you, but when I play survivor, I purposefully try to get points in each category and max them out. I've had games where I get the perfect 32k as survivor without there being any "farming" usually just games that had a three gen that was being protected.
Raising the categories by 2k each isn't a lot to be fair, but it is something they're doing that they didn't have to do at all. They never mentioned this change, so it came out of nowhere as them trying to appease people a little more.
I don't mind having different categories for bp because it helps me gauge what I should be doing to get more points and brings a little variety in my games based on my playstyle. I understand though that not everyone is like this, so I can see your frustration.
I feel like they should add in a base mechanic that gives a small multiplier if you complete objectives that promote a healthy playstyle (for both sides). There's only so much they can do in this mid-chapter patch, so hopefully they will keep addressing these issues in the future. All they can do is make small changes in time for the release, so don't give them too much flack for making only small adjustments from feedback. I do believe though that voicing ways to improve the system is good for future improvements.

It would be kinda weird for them to increase the cap for some categories but not all categories, right?
Anyway, the categories themselves aren't the issue, in my opinion. Yes, there are games where you can't get much in one category, but that's why raising the cap on all categories means you aren't shafted quite as much- you can earn an extra 2k doing the thing you've been pigeonholed into doing, they even said as much themselves.
The categories do exist to encourage people to do different things in the match, there's no "allegedly" about it. In most matches you do have the freedom to at least contribute a little to all four- the point of raising the caps isn't so that people will actually max all four out in a match, it's there to make not being able to max out one or two categories less of a big deal and to speed up the levelling process via making sure you consistently have more BP.
It's not the last step that could be taken to improve the levelling system to complement the grind reduction, but it isn't three steps backwards either. No categories at all might be nicer, emphasis on the "might", but that doesn't make this change bad, it just makes it... a different direction.

I think the 8k to 10k boost was to make players feel more at ease about the matchmaking percentage bonuses. I know a common grievance with the earn-extra-percentage offering was that you top out at 8k even though you could have earned double that.
I was glad to see the caps increased and I also will admit you may be right, without offerings and matchmaking bonuses, there is very little chance of being able to get anything good from the cap increase.
You also bring up a fair request and that is to re-work the categories to allow for survivors filling a needed role instead of forcing them to do idiotic tasks that make no sense to the survivor team's needs.
I would say all changes still amount to at the very least a small step forward instead of what you suggest as turning out to be 3 steps back and 1 step forward. Maybe it is just semantics, but we should give credit where credit is due - the problems can't all be perfectly re-worked in a couple patch releases.

Basekit BBQ/WGLF bonuses would be much better, but I guess the 10k category cap at least means some additional bloodpoints in some situations. Maybe a few people will use Beast of Prey, Distressing, Hex: Thrill of the Hunt, and No One Left Behind just to squeeze out some extra bloodpoints? (Obviously, people will still be using Prove Thyself.) 🤷♂️
I guess we'll also have to wait and see how much the new "matchmaking incentives" come into play to give bonus bloodpoints.

not even remotely enough tbh
like I said, they should've just uncapped the categories and made universal 32/40k cap
