New Players Having a bad time

TLDR: Matchmaking is atrocious in DBD and highly discouraging for new players aswell as the toxic community

I’d like to give some context before I give my synopsis on why matchmaking is unfair & discouraging to new players to the game. I first started playing DBD around 1 month ago, it is July 20th now however I already had an advantage you could say over other brand new players because I’ve been watching DBD YouTubers like Noob3 and CoconutRTS and Twitch streamers play the game for years simply because it looked like a fun game and the most prominent in its genre and picking up advanced tips and tricks other beginner players don’t really have like looping & mindgaming And just starting out I’ve proven to be a fairly competent survivor and killer compared to a lot of people who play the game. I only recently bought the game during the summer sale while it was 8$ on steam.

As previously stated I’ve played the game for around a month and today was a big balance update to the game so while I would address how unbalanced it was and survivor sided that seems partially fixed although not perfect so I’m going to instead address how ridiculous the matchmaking system is and how it makes newer players seriously consider uninstalling the game/refunding it thus further reducing any chance for a growing playerbase which the game desperately needs as it is dying.

My first week playing the game as survivor saw me being the only one to escape many trials cuz all my teammates were urban evading and blowing up gens and hid in the corners of the map/lockers while the killers I got tunnel me specifically to ensure I die first because I’m the only competent player & facecamped me on first hook for the few games where I was the first to go down (and yes I get that’s the necessary response when someone is juicing you for 5 gens and flashlight clicky clicking and t-bagging however I never do any of those as survivor as I mostly play killer and know how scummy it is so basically I play respectfully as survivor just for all the killers I get matched with to be toxic anyways). And what’s wrong with that you may ask that’s all behavior new players exhibit right? Well no the issue is I get killers just as competent as myself while playing survivor with decent perks with what little bloodpoints they are able to get meanwhile all my teammates play worse than bots would meaning it’s not really a 4v1 team game rather a 1v1 every time I play survivor

HOWEVER my experience playing killer has been incomparably worse. I’ve only played Legion, Huntress, Pig & Spirit and while I am literally Cracked as a huntress player and a decent legion player I am really ineffective as Pig & Spirit and need more practice for sure but I guess with however the mmr system works or just the bad matchmaking the game seems to require me to sweat every game just to get a single hit not even a down anymore with killers I’m still very new to. I’d say I can handle sweaty SWF teams as Huntress and maybe even with Legion but with the other two I might aswell just afk and dc every match as the game wants to constantly pair me against Smurf survivors and ultra toxic meta perk build clicky clicking t-bag at every pallet swf groups that all the players can equally loop me for 5 gens to the point where I might as well not even play the game who call me toxic for either getting a kill from facecamping and tunneling one (absolutely justified - toxic survivors deserve that kind of behavior from killers especially newer ones that you can clearly tell are newer) or they manage to all escape from genrushing and being toxic with meta perks against someone who doesn’t even have all their perks tier 3 and has 1 month in game time vs someone with 7k hours and proceed to send hateful messages in the endgame chat.

The game at this point is basically telling me that I’m not allowed to learn new characters and have fun I must not only sweat constantly but also only play the Killers that I already am decent at and if I don’t I’m punished for it.

While smurfing with alternate accounts will never go away in videogames what the devs could do to stop this massive imbalance in the game or at least reduce it from happening is not compromising over wait times and pairing killers no matter how high or low skilled with whatever lobby they can find and instead make it longer wait times but for a more satisfactory fair and balanced match.

The devs could also discourage this toxic behavior amongst killers and survivors by actually looking at their in game report system or making their account reporting system on their website a less ridiculous process to go through.

Another suggestion to help fix these issues with matchmaking would be incentivize playing killer more as the severe lack of people wanting to play killer is hurting matchmaking as well. Logically speaking, no matter which sided you think the game is, killer or survivor, the game is a 1v4 and with the way it is now I could have a match against the toxic bully squads far better at the game than me who are all on coms together & have had far more time to get better at the game all having tier 3 perks as well while I have maybe 1 tier 3 perk and 3 tier 2 with trash add-ons while they have god tier toolboxes and medkits and maps. Even IF I manage to try my hardest and not be discouraged by this and by some miracle catch them lacking and get the 4K with all of the odds and even the system stacked against me I’m not rewarded for it because they will somehow manage to get the same if not more points at the end of the game than me despite me playing skillfully in a clearly unfair match when I should be instead rewarded for playing skillfully in a 1v4 accomplishing getting 4 kills giving me atleast double the points they got at the bare minimum , but no that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Dude, use more paragraphs. I'm on mobile and this blob of text is atrocious to read.

I don’t really understand why you need more practice with pig maybe for moon dashing?? She’s pretty easy to play.

All this update did was make killers that are easy to play easier to play when all that was needed was a DH nerf and a rubber banding fix. That’s it, it’s a small step towards balance.

My bad I wrote this on mobile and it looked decent on my end, I’ll go back and try to edit and make it better, thanks for the feedback

I organized the thread a bit better, so it's more readable.

I want to clarify something, tbagging or clicking a flashlight is not bannable and the report process you described is necessary for offenses like cheating, at video evidence is required to be able to determine if the person is cheating or not.

Please refer to the game rules you can find here:

My reasoning behind needing more practice with pig is that while learning huntress or legion I actually got to play against survivors that weren’t ultra toxic 1 billion hour swf no lifers in the game to learn the mechanics and form good playstles but since the game thinks I belong in Ludicrous MMR I never had that opportunity with pig and playing her against people that juice me every game unless I’m playing my Main Huntress in no way helps me get better it’s just frustrating

Edit: the way this system operates functions as if you are proficient with one killer you automatically are equipped to play at higher difficulty with all killers which just isn’t the case as all their play styles/powers and abilities drastically separate them whereas with survivors even though I don’t have the same items, add ons and perks on meg that I do with Feng Min the play styles that win the game for me and the way I’m forced to play remains the same and stagnant. To sum it up switching between survivors means yes if you are proficient with one you are equipped with the tools, knowledge & experience to succeed on all of them in comparison to killer where being proficient with Huntress now doesn’t mean if I were to instantly pick up Oni or Blight I’d be qualified to play at the exact same skill level but the games matchmaking will treat me as if I am
