The new players experience

I mostly play killer, but I will also talk about my experiences as survivor and the game as a whole. I'm not here to whine about loops or things like DS or BT, but the fact that I've had to deal with them so much even as a new player, hints at some of the issues I have with the game.

I think this game severely punishes new players in various ways that I will try to explain. Many problems arise from 2 major elements that SHOULD encourage new players but I see as lacking polish or actively discourage players.

The bloodpoints grind

Firstly, the grind in this game feels unreal, it takes a LOT of time to get started with any kind of build or get to experiment with new killers on top of bloodpoints being your answer to both of those issues. The fact that new players get 300k at the start of new experience really speaks to me in that the devs feel new players almost need it. I don't think this is how it should feel. I honestly feel if the system worked well enough new players shouldn't even need a large amount of bp to start off. In fact most likely a new player wouldn't know how they'll want to spend it and waste it, gimping their chances at playing in a way they may have favored after more experience with the game. Simply put, this game really needs adjustments with either how much things cost.. or the amount of bp you can receive in general. Rift and Dailies give you very little bp in the grand scheme of things and they can even feel awful in conjunction with the other major issue i have with this game.

The ranking system.

Sometimes I wonder if it even exists as I play against rank 1-3's while my rank is at 9-12. Honestly why am I even at this rank? I don't feel like I'm playing at an exceptional pace yet, but along side this.. it discourages me to even try other killers because I have no bloodpoints invested into them. This sucks because I actually bought a bunch of cool looking and fun characters.. but it's simply impossible to level them all at once. So what happens? I want more bloodpoints, so I want to do dailies, but the dailies need me to play low level killers, but still sends me into games with high ranked players fully geared to the teeth with everything they possibly can have. I see this as a detrimental problem to players as it discourages me and likely others to buy or even TRY new characters as it makes games unbelievably frustrating.

So those are my major issues with the game in its current state, these 2 problems in conjunction with each other punish players for trying new things, or in the very least lead to a pretty frustrating experience. Providing players with better or more sources of bloodpoints could encourage new players to set more clear goals for themselves, and not punish them too hard for starting off on the wrong foot or simply experimenting with many of the various tools and perks developers have provided to us. Hopefully encouraging them to keep playing with that in mind, providing more players in queue and allowing the ranking system more room to provide players with better matches and possibly a better system entirely that doesn't necessitate monthly resets. Another idea is having separate ranks for each killer as well, this could encourage players to buy and try new killers without feeling gimped, as well as possibly provide data on balancing each killer based on rise and falls on the ladders at various levels. Plus it gives killers more reasons to keep playing as I'm sure many players would love to try to achieve and retain rank 1 with every killer.

I honestly feel if these 2 elements of the game can be refined enough, this game could easily succeed with a f2p model, but that's another subject entirely with many other complications. I will continue with the grind, but I do hope these aspects are considered as the game moves forward. Thank you for your time and good luck my fellow killers and survivors.

On my own page I gave a similar coverage of my expierence with the game and how it treats new players but decided to leave out the topic of incentives as I already wrote a darn essay on all the other stuff wrong with the game but this basically has been my same expirence and feelings on it. Seems like we basically have had the same experience as newer players and as I browse the forums it seems there’s thousands of players saying this and the devs don’t read any of them or simply don’t care about constructive criticism to the point where they will let it destroy their game

edit: I just read the date on this post and it was 2 years ago and nothing has changed #########
