Increased skill check time requires more fun skill checks.
Though in fact, with the regression nerfs, gens shouldn't be any more boring than normal, the truth is that the increased uninterrupted gen time makes it clear that gens are simply too boring.
As Behaviour Interactive is (rightly, it might be argued) afraid of fundamental change, maybe it could be improved by a perk that makes skill checks more interesting in exchange for a little bit of gen speed or something. Stuff like sequential checks, quicker checks, holding checks, I'm not asking for the skill check game to become Project Diva Mega Mix+ but... Actually I'm asking for the skill check game to become Project Diva Mega Mix+ please and thank you.

Honestly, I think that skill checks should transition to a more mini-game sort of format, not dissimilar to stuff like what you get with Among Us. That way generators isn't hold a single button for an hour and occasionally press space but something more involved.

thats an interesting idea that also would make stealth killers a bit stronger since you are somewhat concentraiting on the gen and arent looking around the whole time

It's harder in a way that allows more skill expression, i.e. it's only harder if you're not skilled enough, which is ideal IMO.

Solo-survivor is miserable because of this last patch. Making gens harder to do, although it would be funny because it would be a slap in the face to survivors who are already down on the ground, probably isn't the best idea right now.
