Dredge Nightfall is too dark
I understand this is his power but the power should make further things darker, not everything. Sometimes I cant even see pallets near me lol.

I just don't like broken doll and how much other addons can increase the charge rate of it.

I hate it too. Can't see anything more than 8 or 10 meters in front of me. The power is too strong in chases when you need to plan quickly while evading.

In this thread:
People who missed the point.
Power is working as intended. Have you never been outside at 2AM with no light sources nearby on a moonless night? 10 feet is GENEROUS.

People have complained about having eye fatigue, that can't be healthy for you. It is visually awful, the implementation is very poorly done. On OLED screens, it's 100% pitch black and extremely annoying to deal with.

Dredge's power works for a very long time and I'm pretty sure Dredge doesn't have to put much work like other killers to activate it's power. This killer already has a bunch going for it but a power that blocks out 95% of the map for every survivor which can be triggered multiple times pre match is too powerful.

I still think playing in a nightfall isn't that hard. I can simply just remember the tile layout near me with a quick glance.
4 -
It should just reduce FoV, not making players stress their eyes just to see.
2 -
Are we really comparing real life to a game where you can repeatedly get by a huge machete or impaled with a rusty hook and to fix these you have someone wave there hands above you and boom all better.
7 -
When we are talking about light?
Yes. Yes, we are.
5 -
I hate it too but people find fun aparently not being able to see tiles or not see nothing on darker maps (even worst with boon overlay) , because HoRrOR ViBeS , but that why i put mi video filters ready everytime i face a dredge , F console players i guess.
1 -
Fair enough I was just been a smart a anyway lol.

I mean, I wish I could be made better in real life by waving hands around. Save me a fortune. :P

Why do people expect FUN out of the killer's power? It is supposed to be fun for him, not you.
7 -
Console player here, facing dredge is fun because of nightfall, if it didn’t have nightfall the way it is it’ll flat out remove the fear factor from it, fear should be something in dbd and its been a long time since we’ve seen it so I am happy

I have mentioned in more than one occasion that I suffer from a form of visual impairment which prevents me from discerning dark tones of red, yellow and green.
Needless to say, my matches against Dredge have been far less than miserable... I am starting to seriously consider just plainly DCing when I see the locks in the nearby lockers and it makes me feel bad, but I really get far too stressed in matches with him for the game to be remotely enjoyable.
6 -
I don't think its too dark. Survivor main and yes it definitely puts you on your heels and you have to be extremely aware of any nearby pallets but in general, his kit isn't punishing. He is anti-loop with the darkness and ability to locker jump, similiar to Freddy's TP.
Yes its very dark. Its also very paranoia inducing. The audio doesn't help (probably some of the best audio for a killer) as it definitely makes you play differently, even if you are certain the killer isn't nearby.
I have no problem with the power, it comes and goes, it makes the survivor play differently or at the very least, be 100x more cautious/map aware. Your survivor gameplay would likely improve a lot more as well vs Dredge b/c you will have to find times to ignore the audio in darkness and all the paranoia or accept it and play super safe. I don't have a problem with Dredge's power, outrunning a Dredge while in darkness is hard but isn't impossible.
2 -
I mean, is a Survivor going to run that every game just in case they get a Dredge?
I personally don't think Nightfall is an issue, but that solution only really works if you always run it or somehow know who you are going to be up against.

WoO is a pretty good perk so its not a bad idea, and it works outside of just dredge games
4 -
I agree it's a good perk, but if they don't see/feel the need for it outside of Dredge matches, it's one of those "just learn to know the future" suggestions.

Hearing people talk about Nightfall being too dark reminds me of a horrible glitch that me and a buddy encountered, but have never been able to replicate since we don't know what triggered it.
We were in a KYF match with just us two (just messing around with dumb builds) and we had both played a Dark Fog offering. We loaded into some Yamaoka map and we were met with what we've affectionately called "The Darkest Night on Yamaoka".
Veteran players will remember the moonlight offerings, which were able to change the atmospheric lighting of the entire map. These offerings have been retired for a few years now. Yet we believe that we somehow managed to get one to trigger: which caused the moon to vanish making the entire map nearly pitch-dark. I was already in a dark room and neither of us could see ANYTHING around us aside from the little lights of candles and fires. We stumbled around for nearly 4 minutes before running into each other (with him being able to see my red stain). We could not play like this, deciding to then try to find hatch so that the game can end because it was terrible trying to move around. I didn't have any recording equipment to catch this (not only as it'd help my claim but to relive the memory) and my buddy could never get his PS4 to record anything.
When we had heard about the dredge being able to "blanket the map in darkness" we were hoping for something like that. Only to be a bit disheartened from the PRB where things were not that bad. Survivors could still see about 18m around them and most big structures were still somewhat visible. I'm glad that Nightfall became more oppressive, but it still needs some work as to not be some harmful to player's eyes.
1 -
It's only too dark on haddonfield and garden of joy because those maps are already quite dark, otherwise it's fine
0 -
"the power should make further things darker"
That would make his power completely useless bestie, please stop asking for free escapes.
4 -
What? This is perfect: an oppressive atmosphere that has its place in an horror movie.
I love going against Dredge and this is one of the reasons.
2 -
lol it's always funny when killers bring the "this is not realistic" argument in a game with fantasy killers, who can change the lighting of the world at their own wish.
It's all about gameplay and fun and not about realism.
1 -
Because killers expect fun from survivors, like when they complain about stealth being unfun to them. But it's fun for me and for many other survivors. Double standards?
3 -
It's counterable and theoretically do not even need a perk, I don't see big issue.
2 -
Strawman Argument. I never said any of that, and you pulled that out of thin air.
2 -
That's such a toxic mentality. This is a video game, it's meant to be fun for everyone. Powers should be fun to fight against as well, or you have awful designed killers like nurse, old/current with addons spirit, addons blight, old deathslinger, trickster, nemesis w/ drag exploit, pinhead, etc.
1 -
Incoming hypocrisy: survivors burning farm map offering.
0 -
Just do what I do and right as Nightfall hits, run to the edge of a map and hide behind rocks and trees, staying far away from any locker. It’s boring, but at least you’re not running blind.
2 -
Why the hell should it be fun to go AGAINST? That makes no sense. It is a competitive game. Everything the enemy does is intended to make you lose.
4 -
I am one of those people, but I dont think what is giving me eye fatigue is how dark it gets, but the changes between bright to dark.
0 -
Because video games are supposed to be fun for everyone that is playing it.
Losing isn't a synonym with unfun, that's what you're mixing up.
0 -
I have never played a video game where the enemy blew my head and went "Wow, that was so much fun. I hope I get my head blown off again!"
The idea that the enemy's mechanics need to be designed around your subjective notion of fun is silly.
4 -
That seems like a you problem honestly.
If the game is balanced and you lose, it can be fun.
0 -
I got terrible eyesight so most maps cause some for of eye fatigue for me but I don't find night fall that bad compared to things like the main building of garden of joy, almost every building on haddonfield, red auras on cow maps or any brown cosmetics on swamp maps.
1 -
I actually like it, it makes it kind of creepy not knowing where he is and it being dark.
1 -
You cannot balance around fun because fun is subjective. If the developers listened to every complaint that "X isn't fun", the entire game would be dismantled.
4 -
You're the one saying things arent fun though
0 -
It’s not a fun thing to deal with no doubt. My main issue is just how long it can last though.
0 -
Please as survivor I love the fact that it's dark. This is what makes Dredge fun to play against. If you are scared of the dark play games with less horror.

Well ask your SWF in Discord where they are or tune further your nvidia settings so that everything lits like a freaking candle.
In all seriousness, what´s wrong with you people it´s called NIGHTFALL, it would be stupid to give that power and then make it so like you are on the beach in a Sunny day. That´s the whole point YOU ARE MEANT NOT TO SEE #########.

Dredge's nightfall is fine. It's literally called Nightfall for a reason...

In general, I don't need my games (which is play, you know... for enjoyment) to make me feel vicerally sick. Who thought at BHVR that negative reinformcement was a good thing? How about instead of "debuffing" the survivor through a killer power, you buffed the killer?
Win-win situation no?
I mean, since when, as a business, degrading the customer experience... I mean survivor experience... is the right course of action? And before you tell me "well this is a horror game, it is supposed to make you uncomfortable", where do we draw that line?
Is it ok to have the screen turn blurry with discordant sounds to start inducing diziness in you? Oh, wait... never mond, we already have this covered by the Clown...
How about making it so that your screen turns darker and darker to a point where you just give-up the chase to have the killer put you out of your litteral misery? Ahhh... bad example, we got that covered by Legion and Plague...
Oh, I know, I know... what if we made something so punishing to the survivor (like prevent them from running, interrupt all their actions - including the one attempting to remedy to the current condition, ...) that they could not ignore it? Cenobiiiite, my man!
I know, I know, a bit of a caricature here, but only to drive this point: you don't have to use negative experience (i.e. debuff) to balance the game play, you can instead use a positive experience (a buff) on the other party.
BHVR, any thoughts?
1 -
Its not that I am scared, I am just annoyed because I can't see #########. On PTB it was a debuff for dredge because you could see him better which made no sense. They tried to fix it but they missed the line because now it feels like my screen is turned off. I am just asking for they find the middle line and make it work like it supposed to (you can see near you but cant see anything further than x meters). Now I cant see anything, sometimes even not myself depending on the map. I dont want to increase my brightness and hurt my sight just because the devs cant fix a simple thing :/
And also, yes its the Dredge power but you really think he needs to make you blind IRL to win chases? He has teleport and already has that antiloop ability, increasing nightfall brightness a little wont hurt him. Actually it will make fun for both sides because now people will stop DC'ing agasint him.

Bro that's the fun of it. How long has it been since DbD was actually scary?
My heart starts thumping when It's Nightfall, especially if there arr lockers nearby. I look around even more than I already do cause the guy could literally be anywhere. And thatsense of ease when you 100% know he's on someone else.
I may be a bit boased after playing Dredge myself, but going against Dredge is a blast for me.

Where?

His passive power requires you to injure, keep people injured, hook, and use his power to chase. If a dredge isn't doing any of these he gets only 0.25c/s and it takes 300 charges to get nightfall.
