Time limited outfits...
Comments
-
Time limited and auric cell only.

Not the 4th and 5th anniversary crowns, the Bop the Snout mask, and other cosmetics from rifts that weren't part of a outfit if I remember correctly.
1 -
According to the news in-game, the 2021 outfits are back for a limited time as well. We can only assume that the Haunted by Daylight ones might follow this system as well.
Still, if you don't get them from the Tome they're $10 a pop, so I'll pass.
3 -
Hm. I was expecting clarification today and I'm irked it's not being provided, because there's a lot of ambiguity going around right now. I'd really like to know whether these are going to be cycling cosmetics like the event ones or if they're going away for good on the 3rd.
2 -
yeah they're not gonna clarify just in case that tempts you to spend your money lmao
2 -
Well I don't like it either, but for me the only cool one is the Oni skin, Jane skin is ok and can be obtainable with iridiscent shards. The Dwight skin is awful and the umpteenth meme skin he receives, I hate the meme skins in general except for The Clown (more "lore friendly"). The Wesker one is the average and uninspired blighted skin of all the years.
1 -
time limited/fomo skins = i don't buy. i know i will miss them forever but i will not support such tactics.
4 -
She isn't obtainable with Shards.
6 -
That's what I am thinking since the Midnight Grove Collection from last year (was in the Halloween Rift) is back. So they are probably just doing these as seasonal ones. Which is fine IMO. Its not like you will NEVER be able to get them again.
2 -
Yes I was confused.
0 -
Until they don't confirm that officially, we can't know for sure.
How much do you think it would cost them to confirm or deny this doubt?
They'll probably confirm that they'll be back, but only AFTER the 3rd of November, so that if you bought them thinking you got an exclusive item, you're screwed. Fun tactics, huh?
3 -
I didn't see the limited edition text until you mentioned it :/
0 -
It's not entitled to want exclusive skins
0 -
This what what killed GTA5 Online for me when they started to release limited time items and they made the pre order hammer buyable for EVERYONE in online. Why even pre order something? Exclusives aren't a bad thing and show who is a true long time fan. Well as long as they don't give the player an advantage which they didn't.
0 -
Yeah I don't like it too. Just not buying it.

Theyll be back.
Its annoying like with the mikayla and doctor outfits. I rushed to get them last year, and I could have got them this year.
Takes away the reward and exclusivity a bit imo.

I'm starting to think all those "surveys" they give us are merely a formality at this point. Like why even make one when you've already got your minds made up. LOL 🙄
4 -
If you bought it thinking you got an exclusive item after they've said they will never again do exclusive items, well... that's not you being screwed. I bought the Jane outfit, not sure if I will buy the Dwight one or not yet. If next year they return, that's great. I didn't buy the Jane outfit for some entitled "I have something you will never have" mentality...

You got them FREE last year. Those that did not have to pay for them this year if they want them. They've stated many times that other than the Legacy outfits, they will never do exclusive outfits.
3 -
I gave them the benefit of the doubt many times in the past.
After a while you lose that benefit if you keep screwing up 😊
And the fact that we don't know yet officially, even though the community has been waiting for an answer since they announced the skins is already enough for me to understand what they are doing. Again, saying "Yes, they'll be back next year" would be enough, but they're restraining themselves because:
A) It would hurt their sales too much.
B) They haven't decided yet, and they'll base that decision on how well the skins sell or how badly the community keeps complaining.
2 -
It is entitled to believe you deserve things others do not and believing that others are entitled for wanting something you have simply because you were in the right financial position at the right time is actually entitled.
It's called hypocrisy babes, look it up xo

^ This
If you want exclusivity you might want want to go buy some NFTs but keep it out of the game.
There is no good reason (other than greed, but then again that's not a good reason) to make exclusive cosmetics.
🦆🦂

If people don't get sucked into wasting their money on cosmetics then this will never be an issue. I get it, I have wasted my money on cosmetics in the past but I will only take the free ones now.
BHVR are out to make money which is fair enough, so of course they are going to engage in tactics to extract money wherever they can while not completely destroying their reputation with the player base.
2 -
Everyone understands that BHVR needs money to work.
Everyone is free to criticize the tactics that are being used to do so.
You want to charge more for a Legendary skin that offers more than a regular skin? Go ahead buddy, that's totally fair
You improve the quality of your work to push people towards buying more skins? Absolutely, 100% agree on that
You offer something that was not present in the game before, and start selling it? (Like, they could start selling charms) Sure, why not?
You try and leverage FOMO in the community to get more sales out of a regular skin that has no right in being time limited and (we don't know yet) maybe exclusive? That's a ######### no my friend, you are rightfully being outed as greedy.
4 -
I have no problems with them making money. They are, after all, a company, and from my research are one of the most generous ones in the game development industry to their employees, and no matter what they do (aside from changing that) they will have my respect for treating their employees like actual people.
I will defend the prices of their cosmetics until the cows come home. I will defend the Rift (not the Deep Rift) until the end of time. I have absolutely zero problems with them making revenue and then profit to please the current 4 private investors.
What I will not defend is any FOMO tactics aimed at making players panic purchase, and the implementation of such a predatory marketing scheme which purposefully targets the most vulnerable players (those with poor impulse control, be it those with mental illnesses or younger people) is something I cannot stand. It punishes those with worse financial positions exclusively for being poor, and that's something which is, imho, absolutely abhorrent.
Anything FOMO related, no matter how good it might look, I will absolutely refuse to purchase. There's a reason I've spent ~£50 in Paladins since May 2017 and easily over £300 in DBD since November 2017.

#SayNotoFOMO!

Honestly I do get the complaints but again, cosmetics are a waste of money so if you get duped into wasting your hard earned money I find it hard to be angry at BHVR for this.
Plus in all fairness I do understand the mentality of people wanting limited edition cosmetics, there was a time when I would have sold my first born to get legacy lol.
The best thing you can do is refuse to spend your money should you object. I also think it is worth considering BHVR probably need to find other ways to monetise the game, as we are reaching the point where the sheer number of killers/survivors/perks is becoming absurd and they cant keep releasing chapters every quarter (or can they?!).
1 -
It is hard for me to get mad at them for FOMO marketing. It is probably the most common strategy used today in all sectors so why wouldn't they use it. I would consider it shady if it was directed at children but this game is rated 18+. Also, these are just skins that don't do anything. I still can't believe people spend any money on these when there are plenty of free ones that you can get.
1 -
Doing it because others are doing it too is not a excuse.
1 -
But why are people not upset about other games for doing it then?
Fortnite for example, is very popular. It has over 1,000 skins and NONE of them are available permanently. All of them are on a rotating basis and are only available for a limited time in the Item Shop until their return. That might be 30 days or it might be 2 years.
Yes, Fortnite is a free game, but I don't think a game needs to be free to follow this practice when it comes to cosmetics. Although I do feel that DBD should be a free game and hope it takes that route eventually.
2 -
It is not even viewed negatively in the marketing world. It is common. They don't need to make an excuse to do it.
0 -
Same here about that...the actual first premium pass I bought was for Brutal Swarm for Rainbow Six Seige...but that's because I got the new Operator for free at day 1.
0 -
They should be upset, but the fact is that the majority of Fortnite players are kids not even aware of this.
2 -
I am upset with Fortnite and I don't even play it. It's one of the games that set the bar low for the gaming industry, and of course now the majority of games are following suit given that Fortnite showed what works.
People should be angry about FOMO.
People should be angry at P2W.
People should be angry at lootboxes.
But some people tend to accept the "new norm", even when the new norm is 100% impacting them negatively. Doesn't mean I or other people have to accept it as well.
5 -
A very effective, but very anti-consumer strategy, usually ending with higher loss than gain.
With how many players have decided to leave the game in the latest major Patch where killers got base kit buffs, they've gathered them back with the Resident Evil Chapter. Alright? That's cool, keep it up!
But, with this move.. You're scaring them and pushing them away from your game once again. Whoever comes up with such ideas is clearly trying to use risky tactics with no safety-guarantee consequences.. That may be how you do business when even the lower losses don't affect you, so I guess.. There're still more than ~80% outta the highest playerbase peak consistency.. Which, consider me surprised, is simply mindblowing.
Luckily for me, those are the characters I do literally never touch, and I don't like the outfits aswell.. So, no loss on my side.
3 -
Well now we can call them hypocrites
Epic
2 -
Goes to show that BHVR are liars.
2 -
DBD is slowly turning into fortnite. I'm just biding my time with this game until Texas Chain Saw Massacre comes out.
between the way console players are treated, the way solo queue players are treated, and then all of these other decisions...i'm just losing faith in this game.
Limited time cosmetics has got to be the most...insane thing BHVR has decided to do in recent memory. Having the event outfits from last year be limited, kinda makes sense. Cuz we got them free last year, bringing them back for ppl to buy if they want is okay. But this...? This is just insane. Now I fear how far they'll try to push this. Limited time licensed cosmetics / characters??
4 -
I don't blame them honestly. They need money, it's a company.
2 -
Read the linked comment.
2 -
Don't really get why people are upset. Buy the cosmetics if you want them or don't. No one is forcing you to do anything.
5 -
Of course I'm not buying these cosmetics
But BHVR is engaging in marketing tactics that are harmful to the community and can potentially turn the game into a bad experience. So yeah, I get why people are upset.
7 -
So did you read... Any of the comments in this thread? Or on others? Which explains perfectly clearly several times why people are upset?
4 -
Yeah, I still don't get it. Either buy them or don't.
2 -
Because there's absolutely no other possible way to give feedback, is there?
2 -
And here we are, less than 2 weeks from the announcement on time limited skins, and BHVR already released 2 more time-limited skins.
Ya love to see it. Goes to show that they really love us.
Best part: these were Rift skins, and the main reason people want these skins in the store is because "I wasn't playing at that time". Nice, guess what people will say after these skins leave the store again?
2 -
Yeah but thats other story due to being two different company agreetment.iIf twitch says it must be exclusive behaviour have to obey
0 -
At least the rift skins are available by playing the game and have longer time than time limited and it cost money.
1 -
Me who buys all Jane skins the day they come out 😎
On a serious note this sucks. Dbd was one of the few safe havens from FOMO and it’s now going in a direction I don’t want to support. Let’s hope this was just a test run and the feedback leads them to never do this again
4 -
I hope you didn't buy the Jane skin this time
Otherwise you'd just be part of the "Reasons to keep doing this" checklist on BHVR's side unfortunately
