Remove hook skill checks entirely or make it so you can't suicide.
So my experience with randoms
- They suicide on first hook because it's a killer they don't like
- They suicide on first hook because they went down first
- They suicide on first hook because the Ace didn't heal them
- They suicide on first ho-
You see the problem? I'm tired of people basically disconnecting without suffering the dc penalty. Basically instead of disconnected they just die on purpose. Obviously they could still do this but make it so I can at least unhook them before they do. I want to either force them to DC because they're impatient or spend more time in the match so they ruin the game for less people. Idk...if anyone has any ideas on how to solve this issue pls feel free to share.
One problem is "attempt escape" otherwise known as a "kobe" or "4%ing" etc. The issue is if you remove it entirely it's a nerf and honestly those 4% moments can be pretty cool. I don't really think it needs to be removed because people are bad sports. Balance wise it's not a big concern. The other way you could go about it is you could make it so you have 3 attempts max but it doesn't reduce your hook timer or only reduces it by 10s each time (currently reduces it by 20s). However this could be seen as a buff and now attempting no longer has the risk that comes with it. Basically it's a gamble. So I'm curious on what people think can be done about the suiciding on hook crap because...it's getting really bad and SUPER annoying to play with randoms. Heck even as a killer I'm like "aww c'mon man now I feel bad :/" and then give hatch if it comes down to it.
Like if there was a way to check if someone died on purpose and give them a dc penalty but it might be down to hatch and they're just trying to get hatch to spawn so the last person has a chance. So even that's not going to work. Having a report specific option would get abused as well.
Idk at the very least I think you shouldn't be able to suicide on struggle phase unless only one person is left that isn't hooked or dying. (So you can still die so hatch can spawn)

This is part of why Reassurance exists. As for people who do it, yeah it sucks but it doesn't need to be removed.
My take as a survivor: If a person is so adamant to leave, they are going to. OH, you unhooked them? Okay, they run right up to the killer and BM. Okay, they get downed and hooked again. Oh, they can't suicide on hook? You unhook them? Okay, they run right up to the killer and BM. They get hooked and that's 3. Just let them get out because they are going to be useless anyway.
My take as Killer: Mostly the above, but also I add that I also very much disagree that last hook shouldn't be an exception and that you should not "feel bad" about a DC or a hook suicide. If I was obligated to give hatch or meme to the remaining survivors every time someone did this, I'd never get more than one kill. It sucks for everyone, even the killer as they get less points too. So don't feel bad as I could make the opposite argument.. If a survivor DCs or suicides on hook, the survivors are obligated to let me kill them all. Which is of course not the case.

Yeah fair honestly I'm just getting games where people just give up as a survivor and man...idk. I want something to be done but maybe nothing should or can be done. I'm just annoyed really and want my team mates to play the game they signed up for.

No I like my space bar working as intended and not a broken mess

In fact, the skill check does not require the survivor to be skilled, so it is not necessary to have it.
However, I think the developer said that the reason the old spam straggle was there was because he wanted to express defiance when death was imminent.
Now it is a skill check that does not require redundant skills, but I think it is unlikely that the developer would make changes that would completely eliminate the aggressive involvement of the survivor in the second stage of the hook.

There really is no reason to have suicide on hook. Self unhooking is an archaic mechanic that could safely be removed. I am sure we'd get a mysterious number of people complaining because their totally legit slippery meat build was invalidated, but, we should probably face the fact that self unhooking is almost exclusively used to suicide and dodge the DC penalty. Just remove the mechanic, but keep it for deliverance.

I'm with you brother!

It won't matter. If they don't want to play, they'll get unhooked and go AFK or run after the Killer. Both of which are easy hook states and with the prevalence of hook perks, that'd make matches where it happens even more miserable.

At this point I honestly prefer someone that has already decided they no longer want to play just disappear from the match. If they've already made that decision they will rarely change their mind just because they get unhooked, at best they'll afk/run at the killer, at worst they'll have a grudge against whoever kept them in the match and they'll actively sandbag them.

I hate to see it, even playing as killer. I played about ten or so games on Monday and at least every game had 1-2 people who DCd on first hook or after the first person was hooked. I was so angry with them, not because I was denied kills or a chance to play the game but because they literally threw the other players under the bus and ruined the game for them.
Like I know I'm not obliged to be nice to the remaining survivors if 1 or 2 people DC, but it still feels bad like we were all robbed of a proper experience because people are cry-babies and DC because they're against a certain killer or on a certain map. Disgusting, unsportsmanlike behaviour and makes me wish the DC peneltry was working right now (unless it's been turned back on).
I do try to give benefit of the doubt, because of crappy internet or the servers having a stroke. But idk, something about this sudden uprise in DC's after first down or hook makes me very suspicious.

I agree with you tbh I just was worried if I said this all the survivor mains would send me to the stake for nerfing them more in a clearly "killer sided game."

I wish that there'd be a stasis period where you couldn't take the chance to unhook yourself until a certain time has passed, therefore giving your teammates a chance to respond to come unhook. Slippery Meat and Deliverance would bypass this, being perks specifically designated for getting yourself off of course.
Its frustrating going down within the first 30 seconds of a game, but its more ridiculous with how often people will just try and commit die the instant things don't go their way.

This. You’re not doing anyone but yourself (altruism BP) a favor keeping a survivor in a match they no longer want to participate in - regardless of the reason.

Sometimes it is the case tho, rarely tho because most want to still try to at least keep their pips but as killer youre not going to pip anyway if everyone gives up and they havent been hooked (you hook one the rest will not help until u hook the next and the next), youd probably just end up depipping depending on how fast the match went. So its not always in your best interests to end the match as fast as possible but to get more points by not hooking them
Also "kills" dont always matter, especially when theyre just hook kills

Why does everyone think that removing hook suicide would fix the survivor suicide problem?
They will just run to the killer after you unhook them. That's what most people do now anyways if you try to save them.

Yeah but as a killer personally if I saw someone giving up like that I'd just slug them. Bleed out for 4m or eat a 5m dc penalty. The way I see it they are effectively disconnecting but avoiding the dc penalty so bleeding out doing nothing functions as a DC penalty...OR they can choose to play the game it's not like I'm gonna slug camp them. If they get picked up they can play the game instead of sitting on the floor. In fact I had a game where this happened when I was a survivor and they'd go afk and I'd just keep picking them up and they just refused to dc lmao. Like if you don't want to be in the game that badly just eat the DC penalty and be punished for throwing the game like you're supposed to.
Idk it's prob toxic of me but like I...#########...hate people suiciding on hook every damn game just because they don't like a specific killer or this or that. It's annoying when half my games solo queue are just 3v1s...at least if someone dc'd I'd know they got penalized for it and if they keep doing it will be punished for longer. But suiciding on hook they go into their next match with no penalty to dissuade them from doing it again and again and again and again...

Nothing will be done about it because all of the above are valid and legal uses of the hook. They fall under the 'selfish' part of BHVR's mentality of 'Survivors can play as altruistically or selfishly as they like'. Yes it's annoying, but at the end of the day it progresses the game and the killer gets BP for the kill which a DC denies them and that's why there is no DC penalty.
Just as killers can go around slugging people and leaving them for minutes at a time, or camping and tunneling are valid strategies for killers; are they annoying for survivors? Sure, but they are what they are.
