How is the MMR calculated right now?
I had hoped a neat and simple run down would be in the FAQ but I can't find any. So, how exactly is it calculated now?
I know there's been a change to it recently/upcoming?

Basically MMR is calculated in a 1v1 format, where the killer plays 4 1v1's with each survivor.
Killing the survivor is a win for the killer, and escaping is a lose for the killer. Hatch counts as a null, as they don't consider it to be a skillful way of escape.
So if a killer kills one survivor but then the other 3 survivors escape, that's a net loss for the killer because they lost 3/4 of their 1v1's.
The amount that MMR is adjusted for each player depends on the difference of their MMR at the start of the match, so if you beat someone higher or lower than you than your MMR will adjust more or less accordingly
Recently they made a change where your survivor mmr adjusts differently depending on how many teammates escaped, so if you escape alone compared to escaping with 4 people you'll get a bigger increase, and if you die alone then your mmr will decrease less than if your entire team died. This change was added into 6.4.0 and they also made a change to where if you took an extended break your mmr will adjust quicker for the first few matches you will play.

thanks.
and, permit me the snark, so the S in SBMM stands for 'scumminess' not 'skill'? (I had hoped they had made changes that would encourage actually showing some proficiency with abilities...)

What is also interesting is that they have a cap. So everyone over the cap is the same, even if some are 1000 points over the cap and other only 5. And this cap gets changed sometimes.
And for skill and scummiest. Thats everywhere the same, not only in video games. Does it take insane skill to make some football tricks? Yes. But in the end the team wins, who shoots the most goals. They dont need to be ball artists. The skill to win is more important in this case, even if its easier obtainable.
So its a problem with gamedesign, if easy methods to win are still in the game. The sbmm is not at fault.

I know. Still I'd say the mechanics to have the MMR recognize 'skill' (as in the effective use of killer abilities, the micromanagement of objectives (aka getting a 4k without tunneling, camping etc, or getting everyone out against camping etc). but it would take some massive overhaul...

Pretty much.
Result based, or escape based matchmaking is more accurate because it's not factual that results in this game determines skill. and because it's the only variable used in this system it's hardly skill based at all.

I think thats not the right way. Keeping the mmr simple is good. They just need to change how you get the result. Nerfing Camping, tunneling, good addons, items, perks, fixing maps etc.
