How do I counter Shift W as the Knight?
Title

Don’t all killers move faster than survivors? Don’t you just keep running after them and then also get bloodlust?

Send your ghost so that they start their patrol path where you expect them to be in a few seconds. Then make sure you don't just follow the same path your ghost will be taking, try to approach survivors a bit more from the side. Knight is at his best when you can sandwich survivors between yourself and your ghost.

This never works. It is beyond easy to just hold W in the opposite direction of the guard. Insta dropping the guard is really the only viable way to play him.

idk, safe from having the guard do their funny dance in one spot (aka shutting down a loop which is literally telling the surv to w somewhere else), zoning seems to be sth skilled knights fare well with so that either sandwiching becomes possible or a surv just ends up in a deadzone.

Yeah because that doesn't waste any time for 2 or 3 gens to get done. Lmao

You counter it by playing a different killer.
Sarcasm aside, Knight's power is basically useless against survivors that hold W. This is the same problem Artist has in chase; good survivors will just leave the tile. (At least her power has utility outside of chase, though.)

You don't
Knight is an area control killer, not a chaser.

Oh well, really was trying to play him as his design is awesome but looks like ill have to come back after he gets some buffs
1 -
to buff what exactly?
cause this is really all there is to it. Making him a chaser on top of his ability to control areas of a map is ridiculous. Not to mention not every killer has to be a chaser. (Then again; chase killers are more fun, imo. So I'd be perfectly alright with removing area control and reworking him into a chase one)

Unfortunately he's dogshit at that too. 12 seconds of patrolling like 20m of distance and chasing for another 12 at barely Agitation speed? You can literally get better area control by standing in a 3 gen with Wraith's generator addon.

12 seconds for Carnifex and Assassin, 24 seconds for Jailer
Also Agitation makes you move at 4.4m/s, and only Assassin moves that fast. He's the only one you actually want to chase with considering his faster movement speed makes it easier to zone. A good chunk of the time if your placement is good you're getting a hit with Assassin.
Carnifex you either use instantly to break a pallet or wall, or plop him down at a spot you know there are at least 2 Survivors. He chases one , you chase the other. You do this with Carnifex and not Assassin because the goal here is to waste time, and he chases a Survivor for twice as long.
Jailer is the only one you want to draw a path that you intend for him to patrol. His faster movement speed, further spotting range, and increased patrol time all make him very useful at covering multiple gens at a time.
This is a really oversimplified way to put it, and I've typed out so many paragraphs explaining how to properly utilize his guards that I'm not going to type it out again, unless you want to read something the length of Sun Tzu's The Art of War

He really doesn't have anything in his kit to prevent a survivor from making it across the map. His design is rough.

Stealth perks and a map like lerys. Otherwises your out of luck.

Hope you brought Brutal Strength and/or Enfury.

Knight? Play Blight!

The design idea I think they had was that you use your guards for a two-pronged attack and corner a fleeing survivor. In practice this didn't work out because the set up time (which can't be lowered without becoming unfair), maps (a general problem that tends to break otherwise good/decent killer designs) and general unpredictability.
So, best we can do is wait for dynamic maps that would give the knight maps with less space for plain shift-w

You basically can’t. In classic bhvr fashion that’s his 1 true counter that survivors have and it’s the most boring gameplay style imaginable

to buff anything about him to make him half decent lol
his area control isn't strong enough for it to be his only thing, either it needs to be better or he needs buffs somewhere else

i might not be good at explaining this but I'll try my best.
literally don't just intstadrop his guard at every loop this is so predictable and easy to shift w away from.
unless it's a short loop where insta spawning a guard would work. you draw a path to where the survivor would have to go or to deny an area to sandwich them like other people said.
let's say you're at middle of shack depending on the position of the survivor if they're going for the window you draw a path to the door and go left so they either get detected by the guard or run into you. you're at a pallet you stand closer to one side and draw a path a bit further on the other. I've seen knight players consistently able to get guard value whether at loops, to waste a survivor's time, protect an area..etc it's actually insane.
i recommend watching this guide on yt https://youtu.be/kS9LNIQLFeo
and if you can, check out farmer john's vods or livestreams and see how he plays knight he lowkey makes him very fun and powerful but a fair warning (he complains a ton about the state of the game lol)

Similarly, How do I counter the Knight without Shift+W ?
You don't too!
Another badly designed killer

Try using the guards as a multitask tool. Send a guard to break a gen so you can continue chasing. Ironically the assassin and jailer are the best for gens cause it takes 6 seconds and it wastes survivors time and it kicks them off instantly. Use carniflex only for pallets. If you have to use him on gens just use him.
send guards in areas where survivors don’t expect send them in the opposite direction instead

I mean what should the survivor do? Start walking so the killer can down them cause they don’t like running after them?
The killer can leave chase anytime they want to go put pressure somewhere else.
The question was how do you counter Shift W. The answer is keep running yourself. If they don’t want to waste that time, give up chase.

You need to camp or proxy camp with Knight to get survivors to run towards you instead. It's not a chasing killer. Also he is very strong at three gen strat.
