Could the devs be losing Leatherface's license which will lead to Bubba's removal?
I got info of the recent PTB, that Bubba's perks names got changed. I assume the names are changed to common perks.
Knock Out: @#PERK_KNOCKOUT_NAME_ALT
Barbecue and Chilli: @#PERK_BARBECUECHILI_NAME_ALT
Franklin's Demise: @#PERK_FRANKLINDEMISE_NAME_ALT
This happened with Demogorgon before, before he got removed from the game. With a game of Leatherface coming this year, "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre". It could make sense. However, this could be just a text glitch. That can happen very easily. And that's what i'm hoping this is.

....on the one hand good riddance to the camping lawnmowers, on the other we really don't want to see more things go... We're so torn...

I'm pretty sure Matthew Cote said something in an interview about that:
1 -
If we do lose the license, it'll be just like with the Stranger Things content: people who own Bubba already will get to keep him and play him. Since there was never a map associated with him directly, a second case of Hawkins won't even happen here.
5 -
You've reminded me that I miss Hawkins....
14 -
This won't save you from players that been owning LF for years. Your still getting camped by one after he gets removed :P.
But yes, this will suck thou :/.
2 -
As much as I hate Bubba because of his camping, I really don't want him to leave the game. Losing game content sucks. Hopefully this is just a bug and nothing more.

Atp, it's only a matter of time before other licenses are removed.
1 -
I mean licenses are not forever so expected? As long as you get to keep what you bought I don't see a big problem

Thanks for the heads up, just bought the chapter. Been wanting to play as Bubba, but haven't gotten around to it.
2 -
Just going to copy over my comment on the other thread

This is exactly what I was thinking. There's Gigabytes of code behind this game, the slightest bug/overlook isn't an immediate indicator of them losing the license.
1 -
"every single licensed perk" is not correct, only the dlc's that were unavailable on other platforms had those unlicensed descriptions
it's the first time that an unlicensed description/name were added for a licensed character in months, they dont write themselves out of nowhere
additonaly, the leatherface dlc is the only dlc that is not affected by the discount
0 -
", only the dlc's that were unavailable on other platforms had those unlicensed descriptions"
Explain halloween having alternative names and icons.
"additonaly, the leatherface dlc is the only dlc that is not affected by the discount"
Stranger Things went on discount all the time, and had a 50% off everything sale for ~3 months before it's removal. Leatherface is the cheapest dlc, coming in at 5€, and I don't think I've ever seen it go on discount (and I'm fairly certain that the licence would've been renewed within the previous 5+ years). I don't think that's indicative of anything.
Again, I will eat my words if I'm wrong, but as of right now I don't see any use in panicking and raising the alarm bells. The code is held together by twigs and mud, so it's more likely to just be a bug than it is a confirmation of licence withdrawal.

I'm more than happy to lose Bubba. I want more Billy. ,
0 -
Losing Bubba won't increase the number of Billy players. And people only want more Billy players because he is insanely easy to loop.
I'm not torn at all. Bubba is a fantastic killer and I would never want him removed. I can name FIVE killers worse for this game than Leatherface.
5 -
I wasn't being serious with my post.... entirely. I WOULD love to see more Billy, but I don't genuinely want Bubba gone.
Also, wanting to see more Billy has nothing to do with being 'easy to loop' and everything to do with the majority of Billy killers I go against being down for a good time. I have such fun matches with Billy.

Get the ketchup friend:

I just hope his perks wont be renamed with some dumb names like ST perks were
4 -
Yes that never made sense to me. I understand that the copyright owners think people will want to play the best game out there with Demogorgon/Leatherface so they take the license away from DBD. But what does it matter what the perks are still called or look like when the character is still available to people who bought them? Franklin's Demise is a terribly named perk anyway as like many others, can be hard to remember as the name doesn't even hint at its purpse but the Stranger Things perk names seemed barely related to the license.
I still haven't got used to the new Stranger Things perk names. Prediction: Franklin's Demise will be renamed Soapy Hands.

I already own the LEATHERFACE DLC, so I don't have a problem....But it is still a shame that Bubba will look like The Demogorgon. I hope and believe that it will not happen.
I checked on PTB and it is still VERY RARE THE CANNIBAL PERK as shown in the top of the image, but what I saw on Twitter has changed to VERY RARE PERK as shown in the bottom of the image.
So, does this mean that people like me who own the LEATHERFACE DLC will see the same as before, but people who don't own the DLC will see a different notation on the PTB?
If anyone can explain this, please let me know.
1 -
"Franklin's Demise" is a reference to the original film. Franklin is a character in the original film, and later on in the film he goes out on to a cornfield with a flashlight and and gets chainsawed in the body, causing him to drop his flashlight. That's why it's named what it is in case you wanted to know.

I have seen the movie and didn't spot that. Thank you!
2 -
I stand corrected. I genuinely don't remember a time when it's been on sale, but it was one of the first DLC I ever bought (alongside ANOES and Of Flesh And Mud) so that could entirely be why. Thank you.
But again, I don't think it not being on sale this time means anything, when Stranger Things went on sale loads and still left us. Correlation =/= Causation.

the unlicensed halloween icons(and unlicensed perks icons in general) were only available on the microsoft store version of the game, which possibly meant that the microsoft store version of the game intended to release without the halloween and other licenses
one of the updates added them to the steam version of the game(which also caused speculation about halloween leaving at the time)
halloween never had alternative names/descriptions (possibly because they didn't have the unlicensed perk name overrides back then)

#### forgot about that

The funny thing is that in the steam offers it is the only dlc without an offer, which is rare.

Do you really think basement camping is going to end if Bubba leaves? it will only stop being sold if this rumor is true, but its camping problems depend on the Nerf of the devs, because there will still be a lot of people playing with it for a long time
1 -
I've always thought it was one of the best and most cleverly named perks and images because it referenced the movie so well. Franklin was such an annoying but memorable character, and that scene has always been one of my favorite deaths in horror movie history.

So this is what bhvr meant by timed licensed content huh? (I kid, I kid). But I do worry about the future of licensed content if this keeps happening. Thankfully bhvr seems to have good relations with capcom so no fear of resident evil getting yoinked (that and they already tried their hand at an asymmetrical re game), but I feel it's only a matter of time before SOMEONE tries to do a Halloween asymm game to follow the trend. When that happens, goodbye to Myers and Laurie.

Will still be less. Just need to look at how low the Demogorgon pick rate for proof. Attrition will happen.
1 -
It sucks since Bubba is one of my favorite icons and found playing him fun.
A part of me hopes that the rumored return of stranger's things returning in December was true and that they delayed it to soften the blow of Bubba being removed, but it's pretty unlikely that'll happen and just a conspiracy theory I have.
Also weird some survivor mains are celebrating this. Sure it means less facecamping bubbas, but now frankin and BBQ will be free perks that will increase in usage.
1 -
I wonder if it simply comes down to increased prices of these licenses. ST was pulled when season 4 was on the horizon, which makes me think the license renewal price was probably increased and may have played a factor. If Bubba is going, it could be that the IP holders foresee renewed interest in the franchise and therefore the licensing fee has increased. DBD might not make enough Bubba sales in general to justify paying an increased fee.

Demo was always hated.
One of the worst killer in the game to play, so weak
0 -
Oh no people using BBQ, one of the weaker information perks, instead of quad slowdown what an absolutely catastrophic outcome.
3 -
DBD-Leaks "confirmed" it.
1 -
while they do have a good track record, they still have egg on their face for being wrong about the stranger things return. However the devs silence on the matter does indicate that something is going on. They still could be at the negotiating table, we will see what happens soon.
2 -
Y'all are forgetting it's the weekend. These things have nasty habit of showing up when BHVR is not in office.
1 -
Except it happened way before the weekend.
3 -
All these companies try to make their own games because they think it is kinda easy.
You can say what you want - but the fact that DbD still stands after 6 years is quite a remarkable achievement.
And what i have seen from the Leatherface game looks nice, but i don´t see the longtime potential of it. Have to see if they do better that Evil Dead.

Ngl, finals have messed with my perception of time and I was convinced it was Sunday today.
That said, I still don’t expect BHVR to respond anytime soon. This thread is likely to be deleted come Monday.

On one of the surveys asking about time limited content they did mention time limited DLC. I could totally see them making his perks general perks and then vaulting Leatherface, having him available randomly during the like anniversary event or something. His sales probably aren't great any more (especially after BBQ nerf) so making him available for limited time every so often would be way to boost sales and probably lessen the license fee at the same time. He's a single character DLC and as a killer it's easier to make him into time limited DLC than a survivor that's just a skin.
Cote said 2 months ago in an interview that the new games didn't have a "negative impact on their conversations" with the license holders so I'm less inclined to blame the TCM game that's coming out. I'd put the blame on the license holder and BHVR not able to agree on renewal due to license holder thinking its worth a higher amount (Leatherface is iconic) and BHVR thinking it's worth lower amount (sales not good anymore).
*side note I do not agree with fomo stuff like this, this is just something I wouldn't be surprised to see happen.*

over time it is normal for him to appear less (although I think he appears little in the game already), besides, it is worth remembering that he is not the only camper in the game, although he is one of the strongest for that
0 -
While Im not saying Leatherface is going away the responses Cote gave were very ambigous, first he says the games havent affected negatively the liberty they had (which could mean they had 0 liberty and the games didnt make it any harder because it was impossible) and then he says they could release more cosmetics for Ash, excluding Leatherface.
Honestly I believe people should just wait and see what happens, the whole perk renaming in PTB is indeed weird but doesnt mean much, they could have done it months ago because they tought they were losing the license, then the licensers told them Leatherface could be in DBD and the code got implemented by mistake.

Doubt it, Netflix pulled their license from multiple things, not just BHVR & Dead By Daylight, and with all of Netflix' talk about games as a service and doing their own games, it's blatantly obvious that it was a choice Netflix made themselves.
