Limited time cosmetics, why?
Why must they make every cosmetic drop limited time now? There is no need, there is not a supply to worry about not meeting demand, it is a virtual product and therefore nigh infinite, so there is no need to limit it for that?
It serves no purpose but to push people who are susceptible to FOMO to spend money, and those who dont have the money to feel bad about missing out. Genuinely horrible business practice and its a shame theyre continuing with it in a full priced game with $200 in dlc

Yep, wish we had a real way to protest against this. I feel like "voting your wallet", while still valid, isn't enough.

Tbf 20 quid isn’t a full priced game
0 -
Because people buy them and they vote with their wallet. Money speaks, not people complaining about it on social media (yes, I was one of them as well before).
2 -
Money! ☺️

But again, old cosmetics that have been in the game for ages are also being removed Feb 7th.
3 -
That's exactly why I got the Feng skin from the first Lunar event and the new Ada one. Can't wait for the Blight ish to be time gated

DBD has price structuring of a free to play game but isn't free. If it were free the game would have even more cheaters.

My biggest issue is them removing old seasonal cosmetics for no reason. This isn't Fortnite. You don't have millions upon millions of players to keep happy with new rotations of skins. There's 100% no reason to remove old cosmetics other than to milk us like cash cows.
Not only that, but even though they promised to release all new skins for unlicensed characters to be available for purchase with Iri Shards, what they're doing is releasing them as limited time, holiday cosmetics and those don't count. We will be forced to buy those with Auric cells unless we want to wait for next year's round of BS.
I'm not buying anything with Auric Cells anymore because of this policy change. There's no advantage to participating in this predatory behavior from a game that isn't even Free To Play. Nobody asked for this and I hope nobody supports it.

Exactly my point.

Somehow the new sports collection, the spring ensembles, and waterfront massacre are going to be called "seasonal" and taken from the store too. Hell, the Greek legends collection will probably be taken, till all that's left in store year around are the cosmetics all base survivors and killers came with.
4 -
That is a good point. Personally, I couldn't care less about limited-time cosmetics as a concept. Making older cosmetics seasonal doesn't bother me in the slightest. But it is quite shady to announce that all cosmetics will become freely obtainable shortly after their release, and then start removing large numbers of new cosmetics for a full year right before they're supposed to be redeemable.

- FOMO
- It's only been event related cosmetics that have become FOMO, Idk where you're getting all cosmetics from
0 -
No but considering the amount of DLC, grinding, cosmetics, and extra, it's very quickly feeling like the Sims 4 of live service games.
3 -
To me "FOMO" should only apply to thing that will never be available again, which none of these cosmetics are. Not like any of this will appreciate into something of value later. You are basically throwing money into the void as once this game dies you lose everything. You all are better off using your money for something more tangible.
Seriously, you all are making this sound like buying land from Earth2. Next buzz word thrown around the form is going to be FUD.
2 -
Are the new RE skins time gated too?
0 -
Nope!... Strangely enough, they are season-themed. 🤓

Isn’t sims 4 itself a live service game? Not sure if it’s still being updated. If anything I’d compare it to payday 2 (both owned by starbreeze at one point as well)
Fair point though and I’m not advocating for FOMO (Hell it ruined OW2 for me). BHVR need to be more clear on this and whether or not it’s the new norm because I’d rather they be up front than doing it sneakily like this
Anyway I’m a Haddie main and FOMO has already affected all of her post launch cosmetics to some extent :(

So they're going away after the event? 😐

BHVR won't acknowledge or defend the practice because they know it's blatantly anti-consumer and they'd only only respond with a generic corporate non-answer.
People would then just laugh at them and criticise them even more. Remember when someone from EA tried to defend their scummy practices in Battlefront that one time? That dude got the internet equivalent of being burned at the stake.
It sucks because even if let's say the community managers who usually are pretty good at communicating with us responded, they will either have to defend a practice I Imagine they don't agree with and get backlash from it or they genuinely agree with these practices. Makes sense why they're keeping quiet
1 -
The ones for original characters are yeah, they are "leaving the store" aka give us your money now
The new Resident Evil ones tho, they are staying permanently (Thanks Capcom)
1 -
Anything new, as of Project W almost, has had some sense of time gated, and if this continues, we will lose another ~10ish% of the shop with the summer collection, and another good chunk with the halloween collection. Genuinely will be left with not a ton, which is ridiculous. This game isnt fortnite, there's no reason to timegate it whatsoever.
3 -
Well we already know why they did this. They just want people to buy the skins at that time and drive up sales. There isn't any other reason.
They've gone back on their word of releasing non licensed cosmetics because they want people to use their real money at that time.
Now, I of course wont defend them, but if they had simply done it from the start, there really wouldn't be any issue.
1 -
Because of money and greed.
3 -
No. I just was making a mental note that they would time gate the RE skins. They didn't surprisingly

"As the game has grown, hundreds of outfits have been added to the store. Where one outfit used to be a major addition, these days it is just one of many to choose from. By vaulting these holiday themed cosmetics, we hope to simplify the store and make these seasonal offerings more meaningful when they return each year. (Do not fear: We guarantee they will return!)"
I was right, what a generic corporate non-answer
Do they think people are stupid

I had a comment on that other thread criticising TLC and they took it out without any notice. Holy #########, BHVR.Oopsie, I talked too fast

My bad then.

I have been curious, so I'm looking on other websites to see if we are truly the only ones to disapprove of time-limited cosmetics.
Who cares?... Well, way more than just an handful of persons. And comparisons aren't complimentary so far.
At least, on Reddit.

Same. If they had just said, "Hey, we're going to start organizing skins into seasonal rotations," I wouldn't have loved it, but I wouldn't have been angry about it, either. I just don't understand why they went out of their way to do it like this.

📢Friendly reminder to change your reviews to negative.📢
There's plenty of ways to make seasonal cosmetics feel special without removing them from the store.
Also, if they really wanted to simplify the store, they'd sort outfits by what collection they're apart of instead of having the player scroll through it all.
4 -
Literally that is what it means. I remember the time when it wasn’t clear as to whether or not seasonal cosmetics would return, so people were using that as an excuse to cry FOMO. They said they would be back. Yet here we are, people still claiming it’s fomo.
They are a business first, and a game second.
1 -
FOMO is created simply by removing a product from availablity, no matter how temporary. I don't understand how people are still trying to debate this.
2 -
It doesn't matter whether I do or don't. I am pointing out the hypocrisy in the fact that back when it wasn't confirmed they would return people weren't even willing to give them the benefit of doubt, and now even after they were told they would return they still want to cry FOMO. You are not missing out if the things are coming back AGAIN. Because then you would be including Everything that goes away and returns, not just limited to cosmetics.
- Event-Specific items: Toolboxes, Medkits, Charms Etc.
- Event-Specific Map Decor/Experience: Lunar Gens/Hooks, Winter/X-Mas Gens/Hooks, Etc Etc.
- Prime Gaming exclusives. (Which actually I don't even know if this one comes back in any form or at all)
ALL of those contribute to "fear" of missing out. Its not just cosmetics.
I meant what I said. They are a business first and a game second. If the business is flopping and not going well (hypothetically-speaking as with any other business) the "game" ceases to exist.

I love how you think everyone needs a reminder to change my review to negative, and that I would even do that.
1 -
You're right. BHVR, I demand you give me the snowglobe charm that I was not able to get because I came into the game at the end of that Rift. I had severe FOMO and I still do. I simply must have that charm and again, I demand you grant it to me NOW.
Also I want the Rabid Seadog Legion outfit. NOW.
(To be clear, this post is joking sarcasm, but I totally agree with Johnny's point here, and also... Srsly where is the Rabid Seadog outfit? Every other outfit from that tome has been put in the store and many after that tome.. where is it?)
3 -
Lol, Lmao even. You were right dead on
1 -
Disgusting.

- Can you really blame for not give them the benefit of doubt right after BHVR forgot to mention event cosmetics were exempt from the "every new cosmetic will be available with Iri Shards 4 weeks later"?
- There is a huge difference between "A thing is available to buy 3 months at a reduced price before disappearing for a year and then brought back permanently" (rift cosmetics) and "A thing is only available to buy 2 weeks per year" (Feng & Vittorio's new LNY cosmetics this year and every LNY starting next year), the latter clearly reeks of FOMO.
- Yes, even gameplay elements are now part of FOMO. They should be made available to all through those mystery boxes in the bloodweb, it would be good. Oh, and so far, not a single cosmetic featured on Prime Gaming has been brought back, another issue that should be called out.
So far, people that don't understand why there is a fuss about all of this seems to lack the fact that multiples issues can be called out at once... If you ask around, I'm sure you will find out we also think there is a problem of balance within the game!
