Can someone help me properly set up an Xbox controller for PC use?

There’s a bug that my girlfriend gets on her PC where her Xbox controller works in all the DbD menus but then the game doesn’t recognize inputs when in game. We had this issue at first with it connected by Bluetooth and we were able to work around it by connecting a cable, but now we’re having that issue again even with a cable connected. We’ve checked drivers, inputs, bindings, controller updates, basically anything we can think of. I feel like it might be something simple that we’re just overseeing but we’re really not sure.

    Try to check in Steam itself if you have enabled controller use for this game.

    i don’t recall the exact wordings/menus - but once you click on your Steam library on DbD, on the right side in the big window there is a settings menu (gear icon), click on it and there is a menu point for controller, make sure controller use is enabled there.
