Can't BHVR do more to try to fight toxicity in-game?

I've been feeling crushingly depressed all day and nothing helps me feel better like running into a bully squad (/s); constantly getting hit with Head-On and not even when in chases; I'd just be walking by a locker while patrolling and they would hit me with it. Constant teabagging after pallet drops and vaults and so on.

It made me want to just quit the match rather than put up with that kind of behavior except I'd be the one who gets punished by the system. I could have just gone to a corner and AFK'ed but most toxic survivor players will hold the game hostage if they can and refuse to leave until the EGC is just about to end, standing in the exit gates just so they can mock you knowing there's nothing you can do to stop them from escaping.

It's the sort of thing that just makes me want to quit playing DbD outright. I ended up sobbing after the match for 15 minutes because it was the straw that broke the camel's back for me after how miserable I had been feeling all day.

The first time I met a crew of these clowns, they sent me to Dead Dawg, and were only 3. The solo kate who they wanted to do their Gens caught on to what was happening before I did. She came up and wouldn't get out of my face until I killed her.

They are tough to manage, one might suspect some of the tools that let this happen to be actually, legitimately broken.

The nice thing though is its rare to encounter teams like this.

Maybe try survivor for a bit, you can still play the game and I often meet nicer people that way. Especially the killers, some of them are very considerate.

Honestly, the best advice I have is just to report people for anything like that, whether or not it's technically against the rules. Clog up the report system until the devs actually address the problem. If you don't make it inconvenient for the devs to deal with, they have literally no incentive to even spend one ounce of their energy trying to address the problematic players they have created by their apathy.

that would count as abusing the report system, which can get you banned

I'll be perfectly honest, if you're having a bad day then definitely don't play this game. It's really not that great for your mental health when you're already in a vulnerable state. I'll go and play LoZ or Animal Crossing or Disney Dreamlight Valley or something when I'm feeling down. Just something colourful. The general dreary atmosphere of DBD isn't what you need. And you can't control who you get matched up with. It's not worth it.

One advice i can give: Don't play DBD when you're already depressed. From there it won't get any better.

When it comes to toxicity, they just use the tools the devs gave them. They even made better tbag animations for example, what do you expect? Toxic survs used to be glorified in the past, and they still are to an extend. Many of them are "wholesome" now, unless the killer starts to play in a "unfun" way. But the most toxicity comes with the endgame chat, better turn that off as quick as possible. The rare GGs you'll see there aren't really worth it.

Bully squads are fine because when they are bullying the killer, they aren’t doing generators.

And that’s how this game works. It’s ok to complain about camping, tunneling, slugging, and anything else that might be unfun for survivors, but literal bully squads are fine even though their primary goal is to make the game miserable for killers.

The dichotomy sometimes is outright bizarre.

One game you'll get someone who DC's before the final hook because they were dumb enough to run into the basement area on temple mid-chase and kept trying to heal before leaving it, or the salty teabagger who complains that you refused to chase them (even after a 4k) because you went for the easier targets.

And then you get the really nice people in the same string of games who give unprompted congratulations on getting an adept, or sympathy when the DC blocked it. <_>

Best advice i can give is to give DbD a break if you're feeling mentally unwell.

Some creative or co-op games might be a nice change of pace for you. People often are less toxic when there isn't a competition

If you still want to play DbD concider maybe asking a couple of people for "Kill your Friend" matches. Once you find a nice group you can enjoy the game without fearing toxic players.

Some other creative outlet that isn't gaming also works well. Learning how to draw, or a new language or something can do wonders for your self confidence and will make these kind of encounters in the future much less taxing

Thing is that, unsporting it might be, tunneling and slugging advance the Killers goal of killing survivors. I had a match where I HAD to slug a survivor because they were a full SWF that brought three hook distance offerings and one of them sabotaged the nearest hook when I picked up another survivor.

I promptly dropped the survivor I was carrying and chased the saboteur. Sometimes slugging is the only viable strategy a killer has to counter certain survivor builds. I did not make a habit of slugging and only did it when I had to rather than doing it to everyone I downed.

Survivor bully squads are just going out of their way to make Killer players miserable. Like I said in the OP, I kept getting hit by Head-Ons I had no chance of avoiding because I had no idea a survivor was in the locker in the first place; I wasn't chasing anyone. I was just patrolling for gens to kick and keeping an eye out for survivors when one would burst out of the locker and stun me.

Awww first of all big hug! That's rough to hear. Sometimes people can get insanely petty and childish, forgetting that this is after all just a game, and everyone involved is another HUMAN being who is also there to have fun.

Maybe play with friends for a while? Or perhaps hop on at different times of the day. Because that sometimes really makes quite the difference! If the games really aren't fun just play something else that does cheer you up, my personal fave game to switch to after rough matches is the Sims 4 lmao, nothing but building aesthetically pleasing houses! 😜

Attempted bullies are suspiciously quiet in chat when you stomp them into the dirt.

It's pretty crap advice, but getting really good at the game helps.

Maybe make a build to counter them? I enjoy bashing bully squads. They play in a certain way, if you counterplay right you can ruin them and get a lot of hooks in quick succession.

Surprisingly twins are good for this. Most bully squads will do their level best to prevent you hooking anyone. And twins can punish them for being near a downed surv. Perk wise to counter bullies I run mad grit, lightborn, sloppy and spies from the shadows.

Sometimes a regression perk. But I find bullies tend not to be that good at genrushing. The trick is to capitalise on their attempts to prevent hooks. Mad grit makes body blocking dangerous af. And lightborn prevents flash light saves. I love to mind game it though, I'll make quick head turns to avoid torches as if I don't have it so survs keep going for blinds, then I'll take them down at a crucial point when they try to blind.

Planning is key though. When you down someone, check for a torch goblin hiding to get the save. Face a wall or at least pull a 180 when you pick up. Have a backup hook. If you see a surv run for a sabo then switch direction and they can't outrun you. If you feel you might lose the surv, just dump them and chase the would be saver. Slugged or hooked survs make great bait, I'm not usually one for slugging or hook camping but if survs are playing bully tactics and being toxic? I feel happy responding in kind.

If you find yourself sobbing after playing a video game- don't play it. The point of Dead by Daylight, and of any video game, is for you to have fun. If you're not having fun, it's pointless to you.

Trust me, I took a break after that match. It making me break down in tears was just it being the straw that broke the camels back after at least two nights in a row barely getting any sleep plus feeling like I had an all day anxiety attack that day.

Just quit. The penalty isn't that severe, and you couldn't bribe me to play a game against a team like that.

No, this is terrible advice. BHVR have explicitly said to NOT report things that are not reportable. Nothing the OP said is reportable or against game rules. Anyone who intentionally clogs up the reporting system with this garbage should be banned.

The best advice is to stop playing the game if it upsets you that much. You will be far happier if you stop putting yourself in these situations and find something that you enjoy to spend your time on instead.

What is “the problem” and what do you suggest to fix it? Everything the OP mentioned is within the game rules.

Dude just move on to other games. Games are suppose to be fun, not make you feel bad. This is BHVR fault they have no clue how to balance there game. I have stopped playing this game it's just gotten worse, and worse with each update. I only keep track of the game in hopes we might see good updates, but it's just wishful thinking. If you want to feel better just find a game to replace DBD with. Game not worth the stress.

Many others are saying to move on from the game, and I'm just going to chant along with them so hopefully it's loud enough. My friend, if in any way you are not in the headspace to handle people having fun at your expense, do not play this game (or any competitive game for that matter). You will only end up hurting yourself in the long run, and it's not worth it. Take a breather, try a different game with a different pace, or try something completely different altogether - like a walk or a bike ride etc (if capable). Just dont let the actions of people in a video game get under your skin to the point where you are in tears and your day is ruined, for the love of yourself it ain't worth it mate.

I feel the same way. It’s even worse when places like YouTube constantly show you streamers who make a living off of being overly toxic to killers.

I constantly take long four month long breaks from DBD. Longest was Oct 2021-Nov 2022. I only came back for the perk shake up and currently I’m feeling a little better. I would suggest finding a killer build that punishes bully’s. Enduring, Spirit Fury, Hubris, and Lightborn on Knight and a few others helped me a lot.
