The second iteration of 2v8 is now LIVE - find out more information here: https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/kb/articles/480-2v8-developer-update

Both sides are responsible for the current state of DBD

Background: For years, I was exclusively a killer main. However at the beginning of this year, I wanted to give survivor a real try (solo) to see if I was merely blinded by my own bias. The short answer is yes I was. Now let me explain.

Killer Experience: As a killer main, I probably win 70% of my games at this point. However, whenever I lose, it generally feels disproportionately bad. This is largely due to bad maps, coordinated swfs, COH/medkits removing pressure. Losing is what I tend to remember.

Solo Survivor: In the overwhelming amount of cases, losses come down to the following: 1. someone is getting camped (face or proxy). But instead of the other 3 survivors knocking out gens, they tend to feed the killers downs. 2. It's a nurse, blight, bubba, knight, legion, spirit, wesker etc - all with slowdowns stacked.

So what does this lead to? For killers, if they feel like they keep getting genrushed, they will resort to face camping or being carried by top tier killers + slowdowns. For survivors, if they want the best chance at survival, they will try to get the gens done as fast as possible. It's a vicious cycle.

The problem I see is that there really aren't very many viable solutions. The devs won't punish swfs for playing with their friends and they also cannot continue to increase gen times or solo queue will be nearly impossible to win.

It's a pipe dream, but I wish the dbd community as a whole would just take it a bit easier when playing either side.

If the only two sides in a game are at fault for the game being in a bad state, maybe it's the games fault.

The dev's aren't well known for having brainiac decisions. Take the DH hard change for instance.

If I told you to reduce the length of something that is easily reducible and after 4 months of work you came back and reduced the length by 5%, how well did you think you do your job?

Well, that's what they did with the initial version of DH on the PTB. All this time and effort put into a "rework" and the prototype they came up with was.... a 5% reduction. They're really afraid of change and it shows.

Your point about only remembering the losses/bad stuff is so accurate. And i think it can really cloud a lot of players perspectives.

I'd actually advise most people to keep track of their games. I play mostly survivor (solo) and I remember after the 6.1 update, my escape rate noticeably dropped. At the time I estimated I had a maybe 20% escape rate, if not less. I typically was quite annoyed by tunnelling and camping and slugging as well in the past. I started actually keeping track of my games and it turns out my escape rate was around 30%, so better than i thought, and tunneling, camping, slugging, weren't in the majority of my games. It made me feel alot better about the game in general. People need to chill, because there's a good chance the thing that upsets them the most isn't actually as significant as it feels.

Yeah basically. Everyone is sweating their asses off like there's a $20 Applebee's gift card on the line, but this is the single worst game you could possibly play sweaty in.

Playing to win in this game is miserable to say the least, coming from a former wannabe comp sweatlord. DbD is at it's best when you're just being silly with the other players.

It’s the devs fault that the player base plays unnecessarily sweaty? They could nerf every perk in the game and we would still find a way to suck the fun out.

Well yes it comes down to bad match making and bad game design.

the game has an inherent "competitve spirit" behind it since there are 2 teams competing to win, but extremely unbalanced to make it work, however i wouldnt like this game to go competitive in the slightest, that would kill the barely any fun this game has.
