Did they just nerf Scream Perks?
This is an odd change, and a pretty significant nerf to perks like Make Your Choice and Dragon's Grip, where knowing which survivor activated the perk is very beneficial.
This doesn't seem like a very good change.

if it works how I assume it works, they've just killed at least 3 very unpopular killer perks:
Iron Maiden no longer provides information about survivors exiting the lockers if you're too far, killers like Doctor will no longer benefit from this perk.
Deathbound is literally not doing what it's supposed to do - give info when survivors heal outside your terror radius because the very mechanic of the perk implies they'll be out of 19 meters radius (as it has 32 meter trigger range).
Dragon's Grip has already been pretty useless, but now it's ONLY good for midchase gen taps or insidious camping. They might as well delete scream part from the perk now, because there's not a single scenario where that info will be useful now.
Infectious fright is also pretty much useless because it was often taken to pinpoint survivors far away from you, but still in your terror radius, hard capping it to 19 meters effectively kills the perk for those few killers that got use out of it.

Ohhh. Another one bites the dust.

Really strange choice. It makes me nervous when they mess with audio, especially when they're trying to fix things that aren't broken
36 -
Seems like a buff and nerf but I don't know which outweighs the other. It's a buff in the sense it'll be 3D audio so you can locate the survivor quicker, but it's a nerf in that it's no longer map wide. It feels like a net nerf from reading it, but I'd have to try it out.
1 -
So the scream audio has a 19m range? How about the loud noise notification?
You need to be 24m away for Make Your Choice to trigger so the 19m probably doesn't apply to the loud noise notification.

This is an odd choice to nerf a bunch of perks for no reason.

Scream not being map wide hurts solo survivors. Hearing screams map wide helps solo guess perks killers are running, not hearing the screams buffs perks v solo while keeping them same v swf. MYC a solo can know it's in play from hearing the scream when someone unhooks, now they won't know but swf can tell each other.
18 -
Who walks more than 19m away from a gen with Dragon's Grip applied to it?

I'll have to see what this change means in the game, as maybe it won't affect much. Still, from how it is described, it sounds like a nerf, which would be an incredibly puzzling decision, especially since this was not mentioned/tested on the PTB.
Oddly enough, Make Your Choice was not triggering screams during the PTB, and while a bug report was made for that issue, and the report was acknowledged, I'm wondering if the whole problem resulted from this change not being documented during the PTB.

I felt they needed to do something about scream perks. When I play David it just feels so uncharacteristic for him to run around screaming over ever little inconvenience. He is supposed to be so tough he doesn't even flinch at pain, and can even pick him self up from the dying state. It just feels oddly out of character with him screaming randomly here and there.

I'm assuming the 19m range is just for the scream, not the noise notification?
1 -
...why?
I'm not even sure what they mean with consistency here. What was the outlier?
9 -
I wish they would stop messing with screams already. They just keep making wrong decisions.
4 -
Oh yeah, let’s nerf bad perks no one uses cause why not. We wanted perk variety, but who cares, nerf bad perks. Absolute sense.
11 -
I think this change will only hurt solo survivors, they won't always be able to hear the scream but the killer still always gets a visual notification.
5 -
Does this affect the screams that happen when a survivor puts their foot in a bear trap too?
The most obvious cue that somebody got caught and not just that the trap got disarmed was the scream that followed. Granted you can still see it on the HUD but that's less obvious.
0 -
I think it's just the perks/addons listed, not sure though.
0 -
Probably, but for a lot of those perks, knowing who set it off so you know who's got the debuff is pretty important.
0 -
That’s a really odd change and seems like a significant nerf. You’re not going to know who screamed anymore with MYC because you’re never going to be within 19m when it activates.
6 -
Kind of a nerf to solo survivors.
A scream halfway across the map won't tell you if the killer is running Make Your Choice or Dragons Grip.
2 -
Lots of good points have already been brought up.
The most puzzling aspect for me is how they came up with the 19m figure. There's nothing else in the game that has that range.
7 -
Kills MYC but makes solo que weaker… Hmmm… don’t see the reason for this
7 -
While I can't speak for the other perks yet, I did just try a match with Make Your Choice, and when you are far enough from the hook for the perk to activate, nothing is happening. You hear no screaming and do not receive any notification as to who triggered it, so the change means that if you are outside of 19m, you did not get an indication.
It's a very unfortunate nerf, to say the least. MYC was a favorite perk of mine because it encourages not camping/tunneling, and this change makes it almost worthless as you have no way of knowing who is under its effects.
11 -
Hopefully.
But it would be weird to change some screams and not have it be a global change to how screams work. Especially since the notes mention them wanting to make screams consistent. So I'm a bit worried.
If it is global, this'll mess with Doctor pretty bad too.
1 -
I might be overreacting here, but this change needs to be reverted immediately. If they can do that to flashlight timing and MoM, then they can do it here cause this is absolutely ridiculous.
9 -
Again, a trend of giving survivors way too much info and the killer absolutely none. There should be an exposed icon the killer can see on the survivor portraits(as well as some sort of effect over the head of the survivor who is exposed, preferably, but honestly more of a wish). It’s as simple as having one like ghost faces exposed ring. Why rush in such a horrible change?
This also pretty much confirms other perks like deathbound no longer work, either.. Why are they trying to make us hate this chapter?
1 -
As if killers didn't struggle with perk diversity enough, now they're gutting scream related perks. And the perks which are deemed viable get nerfed, too. There's literally no way to placate the devs and survivor mains.
6 -
This is a nerf to iron maiden as well. The change SHOULD have been 3D scream within a certain distance, and a 2D mapwide scream beyond that certain distance.
When I have iron maiden, and someone across the map triggers it, I can't just quickly tell if iron maiden triggered, and instead I'm expected to swivel my camera around 360 degrees, to find the loud noise notification, to check if it's iron maiden?
8 -
They have this fixation on consistency, which I can see where they're coming from with. But too often they employ a scorched-earth approach when they apply it indiscriminately and to things nobody complained about.
1 -
Screams are now only heard in a small radius of 19m. If I misread I would appreciate a correction.
1 -
They ruined the scream perks and they ruined leverage.
4 -
I really need to see how this works in game.
The wording is kinda confusing.
Also what a random number is 19m? Why not 20?
0 -
This would've been better.
1 -
incredible work bhvr, a change that no one thought was necessary and no one wanted and which made everyone unhappy
9 -
Presumably, the loud noise notification will still be global, as it always is. I don't think the silhouette is even getting adjusted. It's just the scream outside 19 meter range.
0 -
Does the change mean that you no longer get the lingering outline of the survivor when they scream? Just a loud noise notification? If so they've made every perk and addon with that effect considerably worse.
2 -
Well, the thread merger at least means someone is reading this. I don't think they'll walk it back though.
0 -
Okay so I just tested a few things with this.
With Deathbound and Face the Darkness, screams from far away give a location bubble of the survivor, and a loud noise notification sound.
With Make Your Choice, there is no scream audio from far away AND no notification other than the standard one from unhooking. You do not have any way to discern who is Exposed.
Screams resulting from Doctor’s Madness seem to be completely unaffected and function as they did before.
5 -
So they made a consistency change...
That makes things less consistent?
Also, could BHVR stop adding more ######### loud noise notifications? At this rate, they'll just replace all audio killers receive with a binary no noise/loud noise notification choice. They're increasingly just 'hey something happened somewhere on the map, no clue what because anything could trigger it'.
10 -
Yep pretty much. It should just be reverted honestly, these changes weren't necessary at all.
1 -
Surprised how they didn't nerf Calm Spirit by removing the ability to not scream
Thats probably the reason why they nerfed screaming altogether
Too many killer mains complained about Calm Spirit being too OP
"A SWF group with 4 Calm Spirit will completely counter my killer/build"
2 -
What is a “3d scream”?
1 -
I'm guessing its directional so you can pinpoint the person screaming better?
0 -
Bruh who asked for this?!
9 -
So instead of fixing audio occlusion and survivors being silent while slugged which have been broken for YEARS, they decide to change something literally nobody had a problem with. Lmao.
4 -
Nobody. Exactly why BHVR made it a priority on their list of things to implement.
6 -
Make Your Choice hinges heavily on you knowing who activated it, and you NEED to be far from the hook to let it activate.
It's stupid changes like this that really make me wonder if anyone at BHVR even plays their game.
10 -
I thought we were working toward eliminating the info gap between swf and solo queue and this widens it again. Also hurts killers in many cases not knowing which survivor screamed. Please revert.
5 -
Sometimes i really wonder whats going on in the devs heads, there is literally noone complaining about the screams. NOONE
5 -
They could have spent that time nuking Dead Hard instead
