Has anyone noticed an increase in tunneling/camping?
As the title says, I have noticed a massive increase in camping and tunneling. It just isn’t fun to play against. Hard tunneling the first hooked survivor with 4 or 5 gens isn’t fun at all. I know I am complaining, but I honestly don’t have much suggestions to fix this problem. The devs can give us basekit BT but at the end of the day there is nothing stopping a killer from going after the survivor they want.
This is just a video game and too many of y’all take it way too seriously. Before anyone just says that my mmr is low and that I am an entitled survivor main, I play both survivor and killer equally. I have never tunneled or camped a survivor so early in the game. I understand doing these strays late game, but early game just isn’t fun for either me or the survivors. If the survivors escape, then gg go next. It doesn’t matter, it’s just a game and too many of you guys suck the fun out of it by camping and tunneling early game.

Same as it always was.
Only as my survivor MMR goes up I see less in your face face camping.
As more killers like Knight spread, I see more skilled area camping.

Dying Night 1 in Town of Salem isn't fun either. This is how I've been coping with being tunneled, lately. I just think of it as Town of Salem.
It is what it is. It's been here since the start and it's not going anywhere.
Easier for me, as a solo, because I can quickly get into the next match and die all over again. (Unless the others decide to slug and grief me and take the game hostage)

The killer's role is to kill the survivors. Killing a survivor early by tunneling makes the game much easier to manage since a 3v1 is more ideal than a 4v1. It has nothing to do with taking the game seriously. Survivors don't leave gens they are currently working on to start gens that have no progress.
Until there's a reason for killers to spread hooks, forcing out early kills will always be the best way to play.

Most of the main streamers have taken to a hard tunneling strategy. They either only chase two people or they just chase one person out of the game.
I do the same every time.

I mean play how you want, but it's really not necessary most of the time. The "you need to tunnel to win" sentiment in the meta is so overblown.
I'm not saying hook everyone one at a time in order or anything, but just drumming someone out of the game asap early in the game to increase your chances of winning because of some misguided notion that you can't win unless you do is both excessive and lame. If it's a sweat squad, sure. But going into every game with that mindset just kinda sucks, imo.
But to the OP: no, I haven't noticed an increase. Like anything else, there are some days you might see it happen a bunch and it'll feel like a trend, but sample sizes are a thing. I generally don't think it's as big a problem as it is made out to be.

Well why do killers need to have 4k every single time? I heard that for equality, 2 survs should be escaping each match. Not a 4k every time, not 4 survivors escaping every time. This kind of gameplay is what will make people quit. Sometimes I play surv, sometimes killer, and I'd rather lose the match than resort to this kind of behavior. I find it cheap, reprehensible and lacks skill..... I guess others can do what they want but then they better make the game evolve around 3v1 or less since almost every game someone goes LD or quits on first hook.

A killer playing for the 4K does not mean they 4K every game. Just like survivors playing to escape don't always escape.

God Otzdarva told to do so. The viewers are following.
Additionally: Do you play for a 2man escape or do you try to save Nr. 3 at the hook in the endgame?
Same for killer: I always play for the 3K. I dont slug for the 4K at the end. My goal is a 3K every single game. Sometimes I achieve it, sometimes I dont.
When I use a Trash-Build/Fun-Build, I dont care. But with "full power", Meta etc., I always try to win.

But playing for the 4K at all costs is the problem. Coming to each match with the hammer down just isn't fun. It's not fun for me as a killer, and it's certainly not fun for the surv team, especially when, as they often are, not a cracked squad.
Of course the killer isn't going to 4K every game, no one does that. But feeling the match out for a minute before going full bore isn't the worst thing, is it? Most times you'll find you can win without being a sweatlord.

The killer dont have to care about the fun of the survivors. The survivors wont care for your fun as killer.

Game has core balance problems, it favors survivors, tunneling is only vialiable strategy to stand a chance of winning and many times even with tunneling killers do lose hard.

-"The "you need to tunnel to win" sentiment in the meta is so overblown."
Ah yes that's why Otz - who is always reluctant to tunnel repeatedly says : I have to tunnel this person out to win.
When the 9k hour professional streamer says that - it's a solid indicator.
When almost all the really try hard competitive mind set streamers tunnel - you know it's necessary.
Where it is not necessary is mid/low MMR which is where most people play.

People who play PvP games try to win at the game. There's no problem.

Players like Otz and many other 8-10K hour players might need to, sure. But they're not representative of the vast majority of the player base, or virtually any of the people on this forum. Plus Otz isn't the voice of god, there others as good as he who don't share that opinion.
The player base is loaded with people who think they are better than they are, and that they are somehow they are playing a different game than everyone else.
Plus Otz was largely mostly talking about situational tunneling, or at least that's how I interpreted it.
When it comes to the notion that you have to start every game with a tunnel to win at any MMR (again, "top level" is a myth), I say BS. Of course doing so increases your chance of winning, but it will do so against a potato squad or a seal team, but most often isn't necessary.
I'm not saying don't do it situationally (like when the game is starting to slip away from you), but going into every match with a quick tunnel as your gameplan is generally just overkill.
No one has to, but more people should.
Does stomping all over people who never really had a chance make you feel better? I know it doesn't make me feel like I accomplished anything but demoralizing someone(s) who were mismatched.
It's not great that it is incumbent on us to make up for BHVR's limp d MMR system, but it's better for the game when people play with a little discretion and thoughtfulness.
And for the record, I have seen consideration shown between players quite a bit. Nowhere near most of the time, but it's not unheard of.
All I am saying is maybe just let a match breathe for a minute before going into stone cold killer mode, so see if it's even called for.

If the game had separate modes for competitive matches I'd be behind policing behavior in the matches. So tunneling in mellow mode would indeed make you a dick.( And everyone should title you as such.)
But, its not that way. You have no idea who you're going to face until they start doing things. So, when you take control of your killer, turn toward where lethal directs you, and you see a generator with 4 on it go "ding" 10 seconds in, you're already behind where you need to be to win. And this is not the players fault, its a developer compromise that we are forced to accept.
Individual players have to set the tone for their matches on their own, and their opponent is under no obligation or even has an indication that they should play along.
Personally, when I want to compete, the best addons go in and I just start killing people at start.
But normally, I just bounce around the map practicing rush hits, or vomiting on peeps.
In short, pressure the developers to break players up into two voluntary game styles, competitive or just practice mode, and I think you'll see a lot less angry people, who will have to wait a bit longer for matches.

Truetalent, Otz, CMWinter, Hexy and many others all tunnel. What do they have in common? They try to win - not have "feelgood" games.

Should is the right word. But let be real: that wont happen.

I don’t wanna sound rude, but some survivors that don’t bring OTR or DS kinda deserve to be tunneled. Your basically screwing over your team by going down too fast and back on the hook, and OTR is TOO OVERRATED! Like I always bring DS, and the amount of value it gives me is crazy. I’m always like: why don’t people rock it anymore? It’s still good, and can you buy you a lot of time.

Seems like usual to me

based on my nightlight stats crossplayer (i'm on steam) tunnel the most.
most "toxic gameplay" (bleedout while standing over the survivor, hook hitting ...) comes from players with anonymous mode.
can we change something as survivor? no, just share your personal feedback in the support area.
